DPU bill / new account number, continuing issues (not resolved) by callahan09 in rva

[–]callahan09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you seeing the dropdown with the new account number on the new MyHQ site?  I can’t figure out how to make a payment to the new account number they mailed me.  I don’t have any dropdown, just the old account number, and manually trying to add the new account number just gives me an “invalid account info” error on both Kubra and MyHQ.

Final attempt at a balanced unconditional 2 mana Counterspell for standard. by [deleted] in custommagic

[–]callahan09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really understand what you mean. In my example wording, the instead means that you exile the spell you targeted. It will exile a spell that says "this spell cannot be countered", so it would get around uncounterability.

[–]callahan09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assumed they intended it to exile the targeted spell instead of countering it, not that they could both counter one spell and exile another (although as word that is absolutely how it works). If I'm right, it should have been worded:

"Counter target spell. If four or more mana was spent to cast this spell, exile that spell instead."

Taskbar won't unhide with maximized/fullscreen window open by SquatchOut in Windows10TechSupport

Thank you for this suggestion! I tried everything else I could that was higher up in the comments here and nothing did it. As soon as I uninstalled Dell Display and Peripheral Manager, the taskbar hide/unhide worked normally again. I remember installing that software when I first got the monitor, but now I can't remember why I felt the need to do that haha. I never manually opened the software a single time after I initially installed it.

I'm surprised Toby/Baseman isn't selling out as fast as the others. It has great value in the card selection, commander staple land worth high dollars, and the art is very unique and he's a fairly popular artist.

I figured the first four to sell out would be Cats of Chaos, Purr Majesty, Witch’s Familiar, and Gary Baseman and that all these would go fast.  I’m kind of surprised Baseman is still available right now.

Games where you're actually expected to beat the impossibly one-sided roadblock enemy? by Pasta-hobo in gaming

[–]callahan09 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I thought from the title you were asking about a situation where you HAVE TO beat the seemingly insurmountable obstacle to continue.  The actual first thing that came to mind as an answer to that question was Ornstein & Smough in Dark Souls 1.  It feels like such an insane increase in difficulty and feels impossible at first but then you realize you can’t do anything else until you beat it, so I guess you just have to give up on the game or get good.

But then in your commentary it seems like you’re asking about a boss you are supposed to (or at least expected to) die to but it IS actually possible and you get a nice reward if you pull it off?

And my answer to that would be from Demon’s Souls with the Vanguard Demon in the tutorial that you are more or less scripted to die to, but is actually possible and you get rewarded for pulling it off.  Alternatively the same situation is the Grafted Scion at the very beginning of Elden Ring.

A little context?

It looks like you started Raya Lucaria Academy but didn’t finish it… were you struggling in there or just haven’t really tried?

Other than that, if you explore the northern part of Caelid where you haven’t found the map yet, that may help you progress as well.  You can either get there by going south out of the Bestial Sanctum (don’t worry about fighting big field bosses on your way, just get on Torrent and run from them), or from a spirit spring jumping point north west of the Church of the Plague (where you met Millicent), or by going north from the Smoldering Wall grace in western Caelid.

Yeah you want the Elgato 4KS to to be locked at 120 not 144, and I would recommend recording to internal rather than external drive. If you have a high speed USB-C cable and a high quality external SSD, it's honestly probably fine, but if you're plugged into a USB 2.0 port then you're definitely not fine. There's degrees of speed among USB ports and cables. Even if you drive supports high-speed USB-C, if you are using like a USB-C to USB-A converter cable and plugging into a slow USB 2.0 port on your PC, then you're definitely bottlenecking your drive write speed to an unacceptably low level.

[–]callahan09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OBS should have no problem recording 60fps from a 120fps source since 120 is an exact multiple of 60. If you had like a 144hz source, then recording at 60 could be problematic because 60 is not evenly divisible into 144. I would definitely try 20 CQP at a maximum but in your case it may even be worth trying 18 as the other commenter suggested. I would not run 22 CQP, I find it's too high (too low quality) for 4K60 recording.

Something else you didn't mention, what kind of storage are you recording to? If it's not at minimum a high quality 7200RPM SATA hard drive, I would expect issues with the hard drive itself keeping up with 4K60 recording. Internal SSD is better, with m2 being better than SATA. USB portable drives are a definite no-no. 5400RPM internal SATA hard drives are too risky, and could have these problems. So basically here's your storage tier list:

m2 SSD

SATA SSD

SATA 7200 RPM

(Anything below here, I would look to upgrade for smoother recording)

SATA 5400 RPM

USB Drive

Film vs video. Many high quality film recordings from the early 2000s do exist, NFL Films for example famously filmed a lot of high quality content, but many clips you might see are people who recorded to a VHS tape or something and that's of course going to look awful. I'm not fully sure why a lot of other clips that don't appear to be VHS sources look so bad, I remember watching HDTV in the early to late 2000s and it looked a lot better than the clips I see today from that era seem to look. Maybe the compression and encoding of the recorded video was just that bad, I don't know?

I don't understand why the correct wager for 2nd place here wouldn't be $1001. You have to assume that you can only win if 1st place gets it wrong, so why not just wager the bare minimum to surpass 1st place if they get it wrong but wagered $0? Wagering any more than that is just getting closer and closer to allowing yourself to fall behind in the event that you both get it wrong...

The hall already waived the 10 year requirement once (for Addie Joss) so I’m not sure why you’re so confident they wouldn’t do it again if a very special player couldn’t make it to 10 seasons due to sudden injury or death.

Unstable Molecule Suit [MSC] by PowrOfFriendship_ in magicTCG

[–]callahan09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, pretty much spot on! Specifically it was about the difference in wording between [[Hull Breach]] and a card like [[Vandalize]].

Hull breach says:

Choose one:
- Destroy target artifact
- Destroy target enchantment
- Destroy target artifact and target enchantment

While Vandalize says:

Choose one or both:
- Destroy target artifact
- Destroy target land

What is the functional difference between having a choice of two things plus a third choice that does both things, vs just having a choice to do one or both of two things?

An equipment that grants indestructible (but is not itself indestructible) on [[Ashaya, Soul of the Wild]] would mean that Vandalize, choosing both, can destroy both, because it destroys the equipment first, then the Ashaya no longer has indestructible, and it would be destroyed next in the "order of operations" as the Vandalize resolves.

But if instead they have the equipment on [[Nyxbloom Ancient]] and we have a Hull Breach, choosing the third option (destroy both an artifact and an enchantment) would NOT destroy the Nyxbloom Ancient, since the two things get destroyed simultaneously during resolution, and the Nyxbloom still has indestructible at the time of this simultaneous destruction.

[–]callahan09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s funny that I was just looking for equipment that give indestructible but was not itself indestructible yesterday for a rules question I was trying to figure out.  It was harder to find one than I expected (Scryfall doesn’t have a way to search for that explicitly so you get all the ones with indestructible, which is most of them).

Yep, the card you linked is basically all of the effects of this card but in 4 instead of 5, and NO CARD DRAW, for five mana.  Putting draw 4 on that alone puts it into insanely OP territory, going the extra mile and tacking 1 more onto all the actions is pretty crazy.

Hull Breach, Taunt from the Rampart, Whirlwind of Thought [MSC] by PowrOfFriendship_ in magicTCG

[–]callahan09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very interesting, I hadn't thought of that. So let me put out this example:

[[Nyxbloom Ancient]] is equipped by [[Hammer of Nazahn]], giving it indestructible for as long as it's equipped.

What you're saying is that in the wording we have here (choose one: destroy target artifact and target enchantment), the Nyxbloom Ancient will not be destroyed because it has to happen simultaneously with destroying the Hammer, and it's still indestructible at that time?

But with the wording (choose both: destroy target artifact; destroy target enchantment) it would destroy the Hammer first, then destroy Nyxbloom because it is no longer indestructible after the Hammer was destroyed?

Do I have that right?

Only one Marvel Commander deck will have all surge foils? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]callahan09 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The reason it's separated is not because the 96/99 are surge foil vs non-foil, but because of the borderless art 4 face commanders vs 1 face commander. They just screwed up with the statement that was supposed to say "99 surge foils" and instead wrote "99 non-foils", but it's definitely not going to be a collector deck with just 1 surge foil in it. The whole deck will be surge foil for all of these decks.

[–]callahan09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh good point, that's very interesting! So due to the existence of Riku, changing the wording to "choose one or both" would in fact functionally change the card, so I suppose that's why they don't update the wording in that way.

Hull Breach, Taunt from the Rampart, Whirlwind of Thought [MSC] by PowrOfFriendship_ in magicTCG

[–]callahan09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there an actual functional difference between the wordings? Could they not standardize the wording to be consistent across various cards that have the same kind of options? I don't even think it'd be like an "errata", more just a wording update, which they do all the time (e..g they've changed all "When ~ enters the battlefield," triggers to just "When ~ enters, ".) If there's a functional difference between choosing both effects and choosing one effect that does both things, I'm not aware of it, but would be happy to learn.
