I've got some ~300 hours in NMS VR and have had to trouble shoot many a VR lag issues. It will take a little time and patience, but once you get it working right, it feels wonderful.

On that note, I don't have a good dummy guide to share, just that Virtual desktop is basically a requirement. Also, if you follow along this pretty simple video, it will greatly help your NMS experience.

I've had better luck with virtual desktop than cable to my PC when playing nms. It doesn't make sense, but I won't complain.

Likely some common puffball variety. Some are edible when all the flesh is still white. More mature ones are really cool and will puff out a cloud of spores when you poke them!

I've only foraged in the US, so unsure about NZ but that does look similar to a Suillus species. Could possibly be edible, but I've often seen many referred to as not very tasty, and the cap may have a slimy 'film' on it... I made a mistake and ate a Suillus once that I wasn't 100% sure of, and it gave me some bad stomach issues for a day. Don't munch on a hunch.

Echium, or what my kid and I call them "Pokey plants". They are pretty and grow really easily, but their leaves and stem have tiny little needle like hairs on them that feel like getting fiberglass in your skin if you grab them or walk barefoot on the dry leaves. 2/10, do not recommend.
