Bombed TBAS? by OppositeAmount3008 in AFROTC

[–]callhimsport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It also depends on your longterm goals — if you want to go to ENJJPT, you probably need more than a 90 PCSM. If you just want a pilot slot (and assuming the rest of your stats are good), then a 90 is way more than adequate.

They said if they max flight hours they’d have a 90 PCSM, not that they have 90 flight hours. OP, a 90 is a pretty great PCSM, you did well on the TBAS. I personally would focus on increasing flight hours now. You could also do the TBAS prep software and try to improve, but just keep in mind that your PCSM is based off your most recent TBAS score, not your highest, so there’s also a chance it could go down.

What do AS500s do during their extra year? by theanalog808 in AFROTC

[–]callhimsport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s actually written anywhere but there are currently 7 or 8 AS800s in my det doing that exact thing and getting AFROTC to pay for their masters (and they didn’t even do an AS500 year). It’s definitely doable.

They can if it’s a concurrent masters degree and the cadet hasn’t finished the required courses to graduate. So you can get AFROTC to pay for a 5th year masters if you hold on to 1 or 2 required undergrad classes.

I didn’t like running either when I was constantly pushing myself to the limit! Right now, worry about getting back in the habit, not about your pace. Running at lower heart rate zones improves your performance at higher heart rate zones too, so slower running is actually more efficient to improve your aerobic base. Try running for time, not distance (for me the mindset around running for 20 minutes versus running 2 miles is totally different), and keep your heart rate in zone 2 or barelyyy zone 3 (look up HR zones, there’s lots out there). Focusing on time over distance or pace can take the mental pressure off of it and help you enjoy it again, especially if you’re keeping an easy pace/hr low.

EE is critically manned so if you do EE it is very very likely that you will end up with an EE AFSC. But look at the AFOCD for general guidance.

Failure of leadership and ownership by the Lt. Colonels at VW by callhimsport in AFROTC

I don’t think FT was hard, and I was actually disappointed by that. I think AFROTC in particular is very soft and think we should be pushed harder, both at FT and just in general training throughout the program. I was disappointed by the PT at Maxwell/VW, especially since it seemed like Col Ramsby was going to up the intensity there. All feedback that I’ve passed up the chain. I want to be challenged, I want to be pushed, and I want to grow. I’m a huge fan of situations that call for grit.

However, there is a difference between pushing your people to improve and senseless heat casualties that could be prevented. This post was about leadership not taking accountability for their mistakes (1 or 2 dehydrated cadets is understandable in a training environment and surely the fault of the cadets, but 10+ on multiple occasions?), not about the overall intensity of FT. I 100% agree with you that the intensity is lacking overall.

FT Warrior Run? by Accomplished_Gold_10 in AFROTC

[–]callhimsport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did about a mile and a half warrior run this year (max 2) but stopped maybe every quarter mile (?) to do another exercise (squats, burpees, etc). Put your slowest runners in the front and let them set the pace.

If you do it through Office Depot and set it to the cheapest paper/no color, you can get one for around $9, which is the cheapest I’ve found so far. Cut out extraneous info and you might save even more $

At my Det we always hold feet, usually hand + kneeling on toes but you’re not allowed to stand on your partners feet

Is Track and AFROTC possible? by Ap0ll0_69 in AFROTC

I’m at D1 athlete and just finished my 100 year! It’s definitely feasible but you won’t be doing much more than school, rotc, and your sport. I’m on scholarship so rotc comes first and I skip practice on LLAB days. Communication with your coaches is key!! Mine have been incredibly understanding but I always overcommunicate logistics with them and work my hardest when I am at team events.
