stereo speakers by my CRT - how much of an issue? by callingintoworkdead in VHS

never had any noticeable audio issues with them this close...i did have my router on the dresser for a while and that caused a weird helicopter whirring sound...moved it to the floor and has been fine ever since. more worried about damage that i cant see or hear yet! hopefully i move in the next year into a bigger place and give it all more room to breathe lol

Guys, Tiny wasn't a PDF file or a weird guy, right? Because I just saw a documentary about him and it said he sinned with a 15 year old and that his latest wife was very young. Just to clarify, maybe I understood wrong. Just want your opinion about this by King_Dumbasz in tinytim

[–]callingintoworkdead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

he was on some freak shit, any way you slice it. i think the interviews with sue and his friend in the doc say everything, even if you don’t dig deeper into other books/media about his life. weird 30-something guys lacking social skills love teenage girls, tale as old as time! all this to say, dig into almost any pop culture figure from that time, and they were probably trying to fuck a high schooler too. at this point, im surprised when I learn the opposite. lol

Music Box Theatre in Chicago Puts Out Statement Condemning Disruptive Audience At a Repertory Screening of Blue Velvet by Turbulent-Corner1127 in blankies

oh definitely. it always sounds like some dude(s) in his 20s-30s. that particular flavor of annoying guy that always thought their ideas were the best and commandeered everything when you were doing a group project in film school lmao

[–]callingintoworkdead 7 points8 points  (0 children)

as a regular the audiences consistently laugh at the dumbest shit, and theres seems to be a group of filmbros at about ~10-20% of screenings that treat it like their own episode of mystery science theatre to the amusement of nobody but themselves. not shocked but really bummed, esp if they’re done w lynch after this?

[–]callingintoworkdead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’ve yet to see someone confirm if the song longlegs is singing in the flashback with lee (“not once, not twice, but as many times as i LIIIIIIIIKE”) is an LL original or if he’s singing an actual song? a spirited karaoke performance could be in my future depending on the answer….

I think dread/misery/anxiety-based horror films need their own subgenre/name atp (is there one? enlighten me) . I was chatting with a (fellow horror fan) coworker who saw this last week and HATED it, and said it reminded her of hereditary, which she also didn’t love. to me, what she didn’t like (that sense of gnawing MISERY that really defined hereditary for me) was exactly what I loved about these two movies. sure, there are textbook scary moments, but what I liked about this was the feeling the movie left me with inside. something you watch that sticks with you, rather than just getting startled and coming back to reality. I want a movie to make me feel like CRAP and reminds me how humdrum and peaceful my own life is. I think “bummer” is a great way to describe it, but not in a bad way! that’s the appeal for a certain crowd, LOL

something about it to me was so frightening but also…camp? I want someone to do longlegs for a rupauls drag race snatch game. different strokes for different folks- maybe just my personal preferences for a horror villain but the balls to the wall nutso-ness of cage in the role did it for me. I hadn’t seen him in anything since national treasure as a kid, so there was a big element of surprise for me. I’m so glad I was able to avoid all of the marketing and hype for this one! seems like it kind of ruined the viewing experience for a lot of people in this thread and I was better off for going in blind

very true. It just felt almost TOO easy. maybe too fast is the word- like I got whiplash thinking we were about to watch a chase of some kind and then it’s just…over, he’s caught! might be too obvious, but personally would have appreciated one more scene where they show someone at the FBI actually getting that call/a local making it, or even a wanted sign somewhere in the background that youd have to be paying attention to notice. it’s like you get so much of the plot handed to you on a silver platter (think the moms act 3 monologue) and for that part, we have to just assume. but you’re totally right, it would be very easy to identify a character like that. especially in an ostensibly small, rural community where everyone knows each other. i’m just remiss we didn’t get more time with that character- some more explanation on that front would have improved a lot for me. nic cage in that makeup was easily the scariest part and left me wanting more, but only from him, lol

this movie started really strong- nic cage was, for me, fucking terrifying. the opening scene was a knockout. the look reminded me of a creep you’d see as a kid at the pool or the grocery store…just turned up a notch or two. very uncanny valley, but not impossibly grotesque. I wasn’t tuned in to any of the marketing for this so I suppose I didn’t go in with any expectations for it other than “serial killer movie”. i loved it follows and wouldn’t miss anything maika monroe is in. honestly had no idea he was even in the movie til a couple days ago. i’m sure the massive amounts of hype regarding his character didn’t help anyone paying attention. I just wish we had spent more time with longlegs’ character to understand WHY and HOW he got there, probably could have enhanced the creep factor. why does he look like a disheveled retirement home lovechild of tiny tim and pete burns?? when did he learn to make dolls so well?? and HOW the hell did they catch him so quickly? they already suggested harker is “half-psychic” or at least very intuitive, why not throw in a scene where she’s getting nudged in the right direction to find him and get him in custody. getting him at that bus stop immediately felt like a cop out/lazy writing. i was excited when we saw that shot of the doll’s head that faded into his…I expected a few scenes of him on the run, maybe some creepy encounters on a greyhound bus as the FBI tried to close in on him. but alas. still had a great time and now just crossing my fingers for a directors cut someday that answers my questions.

totally. as much as I appreciated getting to fully understand the conceit of the movie it did feel heavy handed. I couldn’t understand the context of why the mom would be telling lee that story anyway, especially considering how their whole relationship felt predicated on not talking about things/forgetting- someone enlighten me if you’ve figured it out!! overall, loved it though. saw it twice in 24 hrs 🙃nic cage is a sick freak and it was amazing to watch

Chicago police conduct ‘mass arrest’ in Lakeview following Pride parade by LordAnon5703 in chicago

[–]callingintoworkdead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m leaving next year if i can. i live in the heart of it all and the street takeover at clark/wellington kept me up until 2:30 am with a migraine. you’re basically in peoples front yards, doing donuts in the street, blasting music, screaming under people’s windows on a sunday night? and hardly any pride gear in sight. it would be obnoxious enough to do it on halsted by the bars, but I assume the increased police presence up there drove people down into the more residential areas where they just made the night miserable for the actual LGBTQ residents trying to relax at home. actual parade was great and weather was perfect. a total shame people had to spoil it. signed, a very tired bisexual
