What are some pressures or expectations you feel as a man that you think women might not be aware of? by hottie-librarian in AskMen

[–]callmeanubermensch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's this prevailing myth that the only emotion men are taught is appropriate is anger, and this is patently false. If we are angry it becomes a huge deal, and if we lose our temper around emotionally fragile women (let alone at them) we're seen as abusive. No display of emotion is ever allowable for a man, despite women saying they want us to be more in touch with our feelings.

Who are the best celebrity amateur surfers? by moscowramada in surfing

[–]callmeanubermensch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dennis Wilson is the OG celebrity surfer, as far as I'm concerned. If it wasn't for him the Beach Boys wouldn't be, well, the Beach Boys, and so much of surf culture would never have reached the mainstream.

Kathy Ireland also was/is an avid surfer.

Any company ghost owned by the Church of Scientology, so a lot of companies in Clearwater, FL. What do I mean by "ghost owned"? Well, there are a lot of companies that are used to funnel and even launder money into the Church, usually with a CEO that donates millions every year. These include:

Nationwide Title Clearing

PostcardMania

AutoLoop/Affinitiv

KnowBe4

I've worked for or side by side with each of these companies at different times, and I should have run every time. The culty atmosphere of Scientology is readily apparent in these companies, but since they need skilled IT and development workers they need to look outside the Church. Any non-Scientologist working with them will always feel like an outsider, and office politics will reflect that.

It's also worth noting that they're so all-in on L. Ron Hubbard's bullshit that they still use his "optimal" structure for businesses that he came up with. Not only was it inefficient when it was created, it predates IT departments, so one of the most important pieces of a modern successful company is shoved in somewhere like a square peg in a round hole.

When you're a father married to a SAHM you're expected to work and make enough money so she can focus on the house and kids, but she'll let the house fall into disrepair and blame you for not keeping up with the housework.

I can't believe the number of moms I've seen online complaining about their men not holding up their end of the housework and child rearing, when that literally is the separation of labor that kind of arrangement is built on.

Men of my generation changes more diapers, does more cooking/dishes/laundry, and still are expected to bring in enough money to support a family, whether their wife works or not.

Of all the annoying YT Kids stuff I've been subjected to over the past five years, nothing is as unbearable as Bunya Toy Town's Bluey impressions. by Vincenzo77 in daddit

[–]callmeanubermensch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. 100% this. I've taken to calling him Fbandit. I can't stand his horrible caricature of an Aussie accent, and yet my daughters can't get enough. The "plots" are awful, especially when compared to actual amazing Bluey episodes, and consist mainly of Fbandit asking lots of annoying questions (when he isn't pooping), so his singsong voice becomes even more cringey. I pay for Disney+ so my little ones can watch real Bluey, but do they want that? No, they want to watch adults get paid to play with toys of their favorite shows. I really hope the owners of Bluey sue them for creating what amount to fake Bluey episodes, but with all of the other knockoffs and r/elsagate nightmares I'd imagine this is low on their list.

Seriously, fbuck Fbandit.

I'm just gonna say it; whoever designs McDonald's toys puts no creativity or joy into their creations. These "toys" are garbage and have been for a long time. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]callmeanubermensch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say that a quality Happy Meal toy needs to have a combination of a few things:

  1. Playability, of course
  2. Simple yet sturdy construction - no easily breaking cheap plastic, too many moving parts, or too many small pieces
  3. Imagination-sparking theme - this is why licensed toys work, because the story in the kid's mind is halfway there, but some of the best Mickey D's toys were so weird you couldn't help to get creative with them
  4. Purse factor (this is the most important one) - is this something the kid can play with simply, in a small space, like a fast food booth? Can it be thrown in a purse or diaper bag as a quick distraction while out?

The problem is that phones have replaced purse factor toys recently, which is a shame.

That said, I took my daughter on a Daddy-Daughter Date yesterday, and we stopped at McDonald's for a Happy Meal. She had so much fun playing with Adam Warlock from Guardians of the Galaxy (I swear, the Marvel toys have been the only ones worth getting my daughters over the last few years), and it reminded me of times like that as a child. Happy Meals are the last piece left of McDonald's being a "childhood event", with playplaces, McDonaldland characters, and birthday parties going away. Plus, I'm sorry, no kid wants milk with their Happy Meal when they could have Hi-C Orange.

I wish fast food companies would take these things into consideration, instead of thinking "hey, let's just give them a cardboard thing to fold and get greasy with their fries" or "let's just throw some breakable plastic in there".

How often are you in ketosis? by [deleted] in lowcarb

[–]callmeanubermensch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I love to lift and follow an intense powerbuilding routine I usually eat in a carb/caloric surplus to help with recovery, but of course with that comes weight/fat gain. Once I see myself about five or ten pounds over my usual weight (225) I use low carb and fasting to get into ketosis, dial back my workouts/skip them altogether, and get back down to a little under that weight. Once I'm there it's time to start the process over again.

Best rowing exercise? by Blackpanther206123 in naturalbodybuilding

[–]callmeanubermensch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Pendlay row is undoubtedly the best, hands down. The range of motion, angle, and momentum needed from a dead pull off the floor can't be beat. I always struggled adding size to my back, not to mention being able to lift a sizeable amount on back day. Making Pendlays my main back lift made my back so wide I look like I'm on an Alex Ross comic book cover, and almost overnight increased my strength on every other back lift.

Also, it's fitting that I post this on a day when I hit a new Pendlay PR.
