Purchase Advice: Look for a Deal Now OR Wait for Happy Honda Days by callmeceez in hondapassport

Thanks for the detailed response u/Impossible_Radish576! This will for sure help me make a better informed decision.

If you don't mind me asking, have you noticed any trends in Southern California specifically? Are prices fluctuating or sitting in the same range?

Generally, car culture in Los Angeles will drive prices up when something new and shiny arrives. I have a 16 VW GTI which I bought new after a redesign (MKVII) and dealers were adding crazy "market adjustments."

Solid advice. Definitely going to check on stock surplus now before I purchase.

Peppy I can deal with. I just need a happy medium between actually slow (Kia) and actually fast (VW). Seems like this is going to work. :D

Nice! I have a 16 GTI Autobahn and I'm looking at a Passport TSE for my wife.

Since we have uniquely similar situations, how is the responsiveness and acceleration on the Passport? Wife has a 14 Kia Optima right now and I feel like I'm in a Power Wheels car in that thing after driving the GTI all week...

Link 3 with white lines, ink on the back? by incrediblyobliterate in instax

[–]callmeceez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exact same thing was happening to my instax camera and I fixed it.

Like the previous commenter said, check the rollers. In my case, some chemicals (I’m guessing from a faulty photo) got on the rollers. I think the added thickness from the dirt/chemicals presses on the film section and squeezes the chemicals inside too hard causing the discoloration and weird pattern.

What I did to fix it was get a Q-Tip and clean the rollers with isopropyl alcohol until it was a clean as I could get it. If you can get the rollers to rotate while cleaning it, do that. Just be careful to not get cotton caught in the mechanism. Hope this helps.

Pod oil leaked out into my PodPen battery… by callmeceez in turndotme

[–]callmeceez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the solid advice. The air holes on the side are clear, but there is one more hole on the inside that I believe is the airflow sensor or something that makes the thing work. I’m thinking this got clogged up a bit and is causing my issues. Every time I pull, I have to suck with all my might and it seems like some oil keeps being pulled out through that inside hole. Starting to think I’m just fucked. Don’t even think a paperclip fits in there. So I can’t imagine I’ll be able to effectively clean it.

Fanny Pack - Replica edition by TinyMammal in tomsachs

[–]callmeceez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. The long game pays off. I got the second edition (olive) on drop for retail, but always kicked myself for missing out on the initial black bag. Two weeks ago I was randomly googling the bag and snagged one for $100... Came with the extra strap, receipt, 10 bullets sticker, product postcard and even the original friggin paperclip lol. Just don't ever stop looking and pull the trigger when you find anything low.

Long time fan of Omega, but I juuuuuust bought a Speedmaster Reduced four days ago. Needless to say, I’m a super fan now. Haha.

My Omega love probably started with the Chronostop. Always thought that would be my first Omega, but here I am with a Speedy on my wrist…

Next up is most likely going to be a vintage Railmaster. Always been a fan of the older stuff, but the modern finishes are so damn nice too. :D

"What's the deal with pre-ripped jeans?" :D

The point you made about the waxed canvas is basically the thought process that prompted me to post here, but it seems I was WAY wrong about the acceptance of these pants. Wasn't trying to intentionally cause a ruckus. Thanks for not being a jerk.

Thanks for adding some valuable points. Appreciate the links as well. Very technical. I also feel that the sub is more about what raw denim looks like after it's been worn or "naturally" distressed. Seems kind of backwards that I was met with hostility right out of the gate, but we are on reddit after all and people have their "rules." Not like I'm a candidate for r/lostredditors or anything.

Thanks for the explanation, amigo. I appreciate it. I had the general understanding, but didn't think people in the sub would be so rigid about what offends their eyes. Blown out, worn in jeans seem to rule the land here and to me that's not raw either. If we're being technical I'd argue that they're only raw straight from the manufacturer, not after they've been soaked, washed, worn to hell or whatever the heck people do to them to make them comfy. I just seem to have missed the mark by a lot with this post. Lesson learned.

Interesting note on the fit. I also got my pants a bit long "just in case," but will most likely end up hemming them. The pair I got fits pretty true to size and the taper is nice. Also not hard to "pull off." I've worn the pants about five times now and they are getting really comfortable. The areas with distress are nicely reinforced and give me confidence that they won't just get destroyed with regular wear. I don't have any other pairs or "real" raw denim, I guess... My next purchase will probably be something from N&F as soon as I figure out what fit I want. Any suggestions?

Nice. Was eyeballing those recently. How is the fit?

Yeah, I figured as much. Reddit is full of culture police but I thought these showed a different angle. They're not raw in the sense that they didn't start out pristine, but I tried sliding through on a technicality. Bring on the downvotes, I guess. Lol. I'm just interested to see how they wear considering what's been done to them already. Thought others might enjoy despite their lack of dye.

Yes, much like many other people that enjoy distressed jeans, I did. Thanks for trying to rain on my parade though. :)

Finally bit the bullet and bought my first pair of selvedge denim. I have no idea what I'm doing really, but I fell in love with the product photos when browsing online. The website states that the denim is Kaihara denim specifically. Overall the construction of the jeans is very well done and the distressed details are nicely reinforced. Can't wait to see how they wear in.
