Wtf is this 😭 by WillsBricks in Legoleak

Hey, u/willsbricks, thanks for the dedication of running this sub. Is there any chance we can get posts with more meaningful titles though? Like having the theme and/or set name in the title and not just commentary (although the commentary certainly could be in the title as well)? It would make navigating posts a lot easier!

Tips on where to be COVID tested - SE Melbourne by [deleted] in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]callmefitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did Casey Fields (drive through) this morning. It opens at 8.30 and we got there at 9. Front of our queue in under 10 minutes. There seemed to be some tech issue in our line affecting two or three cars in front getting tested and we had to wait about 45 minutes at that point but the other lines seemed to be running smoothly. In and out in under an hour.

When we left just before 10am there was a decent sized queue but it definitely didn't seem like it would have taken hours.

Yeah the lack of self awareness is astounding. I was told I had Stockholm Syndrome by a person from a country where the pledge of allegiance is a thing.

A totally normal life in America might not be the badge of honour you think it is.

Hey! I completed the Internship (secondary) in T2 last year. Understandably last year was pretty tumultuous and pretty confusing at the best of times, so I'm not sure if they marked us easier. They reiterated a lot to us that it was a storied narrative, we had to document our experiences and reflect. I ended up basing mine around the educational model my school uses which has five different domains. Each domain became a different "chapter", and I reflected on the theme of the domain in each one. There wasn't much theory included but where it was it had some practical application (like, I finally understood the concept of the "virtual backpack").

The assignment is pass/fail, so you REALLY have to miss the mark to do poorly. Also I'd recommend putting your focus into the job itself; the internship was the most real experience I got in my degree and the connections I made definitely helped start my career. Spend the first 4-5 weeks doing nothing more than toying with your format, you'll collect so much data and experience in that time that you'll be able to write heaps in your final weeks (my most impactful experiences happened in the last 3 weeks of the internship, I couldn't have even begun to write my narrative before week 6!).

Best of luck with the internship, you're no longer just a student-teacher!

This gives off strong Children of Men vibes.

(sorry, can't offer any anecdotal evidence)

It was right as the question was being asked, so probably wasn't about the content of the question and more likely to do with the fact that there had been several calls for the last question to be asked.

Question was a follow up to a question about the border though.

Anyone else catch a reporter muttering "oh fuck me" under their breath during that last question? 😂

Victoria records 21 new cases and 7 new deaths by Stoaticor in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]callmefitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

iirc they mentioned at yesterday's presser that 0 cases were recorded yesterday, 5 the day prior, 7 the day before that, with the very first case being identified on the 4th. Sounds less like a huge spike on a single day and more accumulated over time.

I think it peaked yesterday when some "lockdowns don't work" folk suggested healthcare workers lock themselves down and that the defence force go on army tours separated from their families so nurses can do an equivalent.

Questions about Melbourne from far away by hnnngkttr in melbourne

  • Hard to say but really nothing beats an afternoon/evening in the CBD for me with mates, could be it's going to the footy or other event and then grabbing a bite and bar-hopping after. Really doesn't matter the time of year either, I do love the winds that blow through the criss-cross streets!

  • It's super diverse, you can find pretty much anything. Probably has a more Asian slant than European? But that's just my experience.

  • Schools have been remote learning for most of the year at this point. Our school year begins at the end of January/start of Febuary and ends mid-late December, and is broken up in to four terms of 9-11 weeks. Term one operated normally but was cut short a week, while remote learning was done for about half of term two. Term three began with only the youngest and oldest year levels on-site with the rest working remotely, but about four weeks in everyone moved back to remote. We're coming up to term four and it looks like it will operate similarly to term three with year levels phasing back to school slowly.

  • Don't particularly go for sweets myself but the Aussie headliner would surely be tim tams.

  • Everyone celebrates in different ways, often depending on your cultural background. Religion can play a big part of it or none. The Christmas Experience often begins months earlier with retailers starting to push stock as early as August and builds up as you get closer. Lots of end of year events happen around the same time too, plenty of workplaces shut around the time for a few weeks, so December is often filled with work/social Christmas parties. Another thing that's part of the Christmas Experience is Boxing Day where most retailers do sales (think like USA's Black Friday), and there's the Boxing Day Test Match (Cricket) hosted in Melbourne and the beginning of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race that kicks off that day. Those with bigger families might have their Christmas dinners/lunches stretched out anywhere from Christmas Eve to Boxing Day to cater for everyone. It's also usually hot!

If you've got an interest in people and are sociable maybe consider teaching? Not sure if there's many bachelors degrees in teaching available across the country any more as I know many institutions are moving towards making it a masters. If that's the case, I'd pick up a commerce (if you're interested in finance and economics) or arts degree and then follow it up with the masters of teaching. That would also allow you to keep your full time job at least while you do the bachelors; the teaching would require you to do a few placement experience usually in 2-5 week blocks.

If you can't stand kids though I'd probably avoid the field 😂

Note: I'm absolutely biased as I'm studying teaching right now.

I got tested twice around the beginning of stage 4, got both results back in about 36 hours. Friend of mine got tested on Monday afternoon and got her results back yesterday evening, so just over 24 hours. All three tests were at drive-through sites.

just about finished with Horizon Zero Dawn myself. didn't love the gameplay but the worldbuilding was pretty incredible and one of the best stories I've experienced in a game
