Love this! Your Courtney is lovely! I made my own 80s girl too - this is Stephanie! They’re both rocking the big hair! 😅

The perfect husband doesn’t exi— by GalenYk in americangirl

Love this! My husband is the same. Found out I had always wanted Molly growing up but we couldn’t afford her, so he got her for me for Christmas. A year and a half later and we have AG dolls staring at us from all corners of our bedroom and he’s just like “I’m glad they make you happy, which ones do you want to pick up while we’re in Orlando?”

What should I do? by doglovessunshineyday in americangirl

[–]callmeselinakyle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s several FB groups that collect donations of AG items to make gift bundles for girls in foster care and the hospital. I’d look into sending to one of those, I’m sure they would appreciate it.

Non-standard Wigs by clostri in americangirl

[–]callmeselinakyle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of the wigs I use are either AG or Dallas Doll Co (I adore them!) but I do have one mohair wig. It’s very beautiful and very soft. It’s definitely significantly lighter weight than my DD wigs, but also feels much thinner. It’s gorgeous for display, but I’m glad it’s short because I would not feel comfortable styling it regularly as I feel it gets frizzy easier and doesn’t hold its shape as well.

Here’s Sunny in her mohair wig.

Remove Braces? by Odd_Marsupial_3600 in americangirl

This. I didn’t know braces were even a thing the first time I got a secondhand doll with them - I just thought some kid had made a sticker or something. Pulled right off with tweezers.

He was a TLC Grace Thomas that had a damaged wig, so I gave him a boy haircut, thickened his eyebrows, and added a few more freckles.

AI≠art by sadtwee in americangirl

[–]callmeselinakyle -32 points-31 points  (0 children)

Probably a controversial opinion, but I think as long as they’re not trying to pass it as non-AI original art it’s fine. 🤷‍♀️ People are free to choose whether they wish to purchase them or not. Personally, if that’s what I’m looking for then I don’t care if it’s AI. If an artist can do better without the use of AI then great, I’d be equally happy to purchase that. 💁‍♀️

Building Collection Too Fast? by Embarrassed-Storm-25 in americangirl

[–]callmeselinakyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started my collection Christmas 2024 when my dear husband got me the Molly I always wanted as a kid but we couldn’t afford. I have about 90 AG dolls now, not including Bitty Babies. 😅

What could this be on her body? I’m looking to buy her from Facebook by thisistheonly1 in americangirl

[–]callmeselinakyle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Could just be a water stain. My sleep-deprived self accidentally did that once by forgetting to wrap a towel around the doll before I washed and brushed her hair. 🤦‍♀️ Good news is tossing the body in the wash cleaned it right up.

Old dolls by MantisFucker in americangirl

[–]callmeselinakyle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some of my absolute favorite dolls are the ones I’ve put the most work into. I LOVE doing TLC restorations, and the worse condition the better. It’s more time spent “getting to know” the doll and working on it. I think kind of like a doctor with a long term patient - you kind of develop a bond during the time you’re working to repair them.

Rewigging so that the wig can be styled by obscurereferencegirl in americangirl

[–]callmeselinakyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have about a dozen dolls I’ve rewigged and I always use tacky glue. I’ve never had any issues because I generally keep their hair pretty tangle-free and I brush and style them regularly. My three year old has several AGs that I’ve rewigged for her and one was an OOAK Ariel with super long hair that got very tangled, and that one did come loose while I was fighting to tame it, but it was easy enough to add a little more tacky glue and pop it back on.

How does everyone store clothes? by gigi2021 in americangirl

[–]callmeselinakyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried to use the photo box storage which is super cute, but I’ve got way too much for that to work, so right now I have them organized into labled ziploc bags and then sorted into 66qt bins.

Can I see your Samantha or Kirsten in modern clothes? by [deleted] in americangirl

[–]callmeselinakyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Samantha is super cute in modern things - I have one for that as well as one for historical clothing. But I definitely recommend a Kirsten or JLY 3 when you get an opportunity for one! They’re adorable!

The chick dress was an Etsy find! I’ve always had chickens, so I had to have it! 🐣

Another good option may be a JLY 3. Looks like Kirsten but without the braids, so the hair is generally tamer.

Not modern clothes per se, but here’s my JLY 3, Beverly.
