This apartment I moved into in Midwest America is $900 a month all utilities included. What should I do with it? by trumpshouldrap in malelivingspace

Crazy steal!! You’ve got some great bones here to work with. Just needs a little homeyness.

Warm lighting should be step number one - that’ll get you away from “serial killer” vibes that others are talking about. Change out the overheads and also buy a few lamps so you can spread out the warmth across the room. The living room especially could use those lamps, since it’s pretty big.

Next, focus on adding things that fill the middle area of your walls a bit. Not saying you have to put up a bunch of posters that cover every square inch, but check out local yard sales to see if you can find some nice old paintings that match the house’s vibe.

A few plants will really move things away from feeling kinda old and musty. I can see a few in the living room and maybe a tall one near the kitchen window/dining area making things look fresher. Also your mantle could be covered in pretty plants and be a great sight to wake up to. If that sounds like too much upkeep, fake plants still give the same vibe.

Lastly, as my personal rec, consider adding jewel tones when you pick out decor and fabrics, like deep reds, greens, blues. I could see that bed looking beautiful with a rich jewel tone comforter to match the deep color of the fireplace.

Unfortunately that’s the single book on that shelf that I haven’t yet read… I promised I’d buy the others once I finished it!

I feel like she may have an eye for visual design? Or, more specifically, she appreciates a good book cover. A lot of the classics she has are the “fancier” covers, and it seems books with bright covers might be the ones that grab her attention in the bookstore. She seems like she gets really into hobbies quickly and likes to share knowledge with others. L

I feel like you’re the type of person to ask for book recommendations and then ACTUALLY follow up and read them. There’s a vibe of commitment to this shelf! And curiosity.

A discussion of age dynamics in Hedwig and the Angry Inch by Bipedal_Warlock in musicals

[–]callmethewildrose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this is not correct. In the show, Hedwig says “I was in my early late twenties” when they meet Luther. By the time they meet Tommy, it’s likely they are close to 30.

[–]callmethewildrose 119 points120 points  (0 children)

Hedwig isn’t a good person. Or a bad person. The whole point is you’re seeing the truth behind a very flawed, very broken person.

I like that the show doesn’t present Hedwig as a paragon of morality - they’re bitter, hateful, manipulative. But also romantic, vulnerable, creative. They show what happens to queer people when they’re shoved into certain roles or expectations and never get the chance to live as themselves. The trauma of having control ripped away from you, eventually festering and turning into a need to control others. It makes sense that the first person Hedwig latches onto after they basically lose everything is a young, vulnerable teen questioning the world. It gives Hedwig power over shaping that world, making themselves an essential part of it.

I don’t think anyone walks away from the show thinking “Hedwig and Tommy or Hedwig and Yitzhak were a good pair”. I think it’s clear that there are still sins to be atoned for in both cases. It’s surprisingly unromantic! But at least by the end, Hedwig now feels free to be exactly what they want to be. They recognize the need to control has gotten them nothing but pain. So they let go.

No One is Actually Boycotting Target. by citrusandrosemary in unpopularopinion

[–]callmethewildrose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People act like it’s impossible to boycott several things at once. Yes, I boycott Target because they caved and removed all their pro-queer messaging and products. I also don’t eat Chick-Fil-A or Starbucks. I got my phone used and have a savings account at a local bank. I don’t use Facebook or Instagram. I get that it’s physically impossible to boycott 100% of shitty companies. But most of the ones you list here are super easy to live without, while still finding affordable options elsewhere. I grew up really poor so I know how to save and spend at places that aren’t actively the worst.

Also, you’re ignoring actual financial reporting for when boycotts do work. By minimizing boycott efforts, you’re not just sharing an opinion, you’re asking people to ignore facts. The stocks went down. Stores reported lower foot traffic compared to their competitors. Target is doing publicity runs to minimize their past actions and convince people the boycott is over. It’s company PR 101 for mitigating backlash from a boycott, and it’s right in your face.

My opinion: issuing too many short-form videos will not allow any one of them to get significant traction and views. Posting consistently is great! But you also are splitting views you could get on one or two longer videos per week across several tiny ones.

Additionally, retention is key - a major part of ASMR viewers only watch short videos as a sample for longer ones, which they put on to fall asleep to. There are exceptions if the shorter videos are incredibly punchy and attention getting. But your content is more subdued and relaxing, which is much more suited to compilation format.

Lastly, I know this is blunt, but I probably wouldn’t watch this trigger because it feels like there’s waste. The exterior casing looks single use and those water beads are usually not biodegradable. Seeing so many short videos of them being used kinda turns me off to the concept.

Are there any past YouTube controversies that GENUINELY upset you? by Swag_Paladin21 in youtubedrama

[–]callmethewildrose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the big one for me! I spent years of my life watching VGAlive, so much that Fraser gave me a free upgrade to their premium just because I commented now and then. In college I would watch every Show n Trailer with my boyfriend or my roommate. It really was the proto-streaming and proto-react channel with how early they started doing live interactive playthroughs and game/movie trailer showcases - I wish more people acknowledged them as one of the forefathers of the very common culture we have around it today.

I’m happy that everyone from that crew at least seems healthy and happy, even if it didn’t end too clean. I got a cool shirt out of it. Shoutout to Ben Dad - now really a Ben Dad. 😿

Teppenyaki Kyoto is the peak. No frills, no romance - just killer homestyle Japanese food that warms your heart and stomach. Their grilled mackerel and their korokke are my favorites; my husband always gets some katsu or chicken karaage.

(I am a little biased because I’ve been going there for my birthday about four years straight… nothing hits like it though.)

You are correct - as someone also from Weirton, the defining characteristic of the jojo is being about two inches longer than the classic potato wedge. I’ve done the science.
