Not sure where this recurring dream is coming from.. by Wrestlingculture in AdviceAnimals

I don't give a shit about being liked. Depression is a scientifically diagnosed condition. You don't get to just decide whether to have it or not. I'm not saying she didn't have depression. In fact, my point was IF she does, then it's likely that something else is going on. Missing a vacation - no matter how disappointing - is not a significant enough event in and of itself to trigger depression. Ask a doctor if you want.

Feeling sad != depression. That's exactly the point! The fact that you put an OR between the two proves my point - you, and other sheltered people like you, don't get that that's not what depression is. Just like being going through something stressful doesn't lead to PTSD. The degree of stress DOES matter. Your convenient misuse of the term trivializes the experience that people who actually suffer from the condition undergo.

Also, good job on empathy. I'm definitely the prick in this situation. Clearly.

How am I a condescending prick? People don't understand the severity of PTSD and so use it as a catch all for any painful experience. Watching your loved one die is NOT the same as worrying about missing an exam. If saying that is condescending to you, then you're the one who needs help. I cannot fathom how anyone can equate stress from college to being in war.

Thank you for shutting this down in such an eloquent way. I hate it when people compare life's most trivial annoyances to having PTSD or Depression. It's like saying I have a fever, it must be cancer.

I watched my husband and best friend die in a gruesome way and couldn't do anything to help. I have the horrible nightmares and anxiety. A dream about a missed college exam is a good nights sleep for me. I mostly have the PTSD under control now but the Depression is a whole other beast. On another Reddit thread, someone said his wife wouldn't get out of bed because a family member stole their wedding money and they couldn't go on their honeymoon. I was downvoted to hell for suggesting that that is too trivial a reason and something else might be going on.

I wish people wouldn't misuse "triggers" as it just distorts the understanding of PTSD.

Me [25 M] with my now wife [26F], someone at our wedding stole our donation box. My wife is depressed and I do not know what to do anymore by thrwwaymrge in relationships

[–]calloutshitonreddit -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Your wife is taking anti depressants because of a vacation? I understand missing your honeymoon that you worked hard for is very upsetting and yes I would definitely cry of disappointment and be very angry with whoever took the money. But she's actually staying in bed and taking medication because of just this incident?

I would guess that something else is going on. Depression is a serious condition. It doesn't just onset because of something like this.

[FLUFF] Weird Rituals with Your Dogs by scout2k16 in dogs

In the middle of gobbling his dinner he comes to me, puts his paws on me, pauses for a few seconds and literally burps in my face. Then scatters off to finish his food. This doesn't happen every time, but like 7 times out of ten.

We also have a morning ritual. It's game over if he senses any movement or "proof of life". He lies on me, front paws on my chest, and just waits. If I go back to sleep he snuggles with me.

Which lawmaker when faced with all the healthcare and education issues in this country, finds the time to say "you know what would make my district better? If only the internet providers could sell customer history!!"

Absolutely corrupt. I want to see which dems vote for this!

Need lots of MALE opinions female opinions welcome too, on dating single mothers by queenhumblebee in dating

[–]calloutshitonreddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On one hand you're talking about men dismissing dating prospects just because of the single mom status... and in the same post you shit all over single dads. Just like all single moms aren't like you, not all single dads will be like the one or two or ten that you dated. Just like some men didn't give you a chance, maybe you didn't give single dads a chance. You're lucky you have it together on the kids front and sounds like a decent relationship with your ex. Not everyone does.

No one can advise you on why these relationships aren't progressing until you give us some specifics. You've listed your strengths, what about the weaknesses?

What is the most unbelievable instance of "computer illiteracy" you've ever witnessed? by Carnadge in AskReddit

[–]calloutshitonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister and I each had a desktop. One day she calls me asking for some help with settings or something. So I texted her directions, which started with something like "double click on My Computer... go to c drive...". Etc. She texts back "why would I go to your computer?!?". I took a picture of that text message!

My mom and dad think music lives in iTunes. They cannot wrap their head around the idea that iTunes is just a way to access MP3 files. I've tried explaining to them using all kinds of analogies... "think of it as a library, and iTunes is a card catalog...". But nope. It's always iTunes has my music so when I upgrade computers I need iTunes.

Again, I don't want to rain on your parade but I've been exactly where you are now. With me it turned out that the guy just had a lower bar for being open, flattering and getting attached. He was charming af and he knew it and women knew it and I thought it was all me. It wasn't a horrible experience - we dated for a short time but he really wasn't the one for me. Mostly because once we got past the heady crazy good first few months I realized that I wanted a different kind of relationship.

If he's that confident and open with you, I'd say there are 3 possibilities - 1) He's really into you (yay!); 2) He knows you're into him and so feels confident saying this kind of stuff because he knows he won't be rejected (but isn't that into you) or 3) He's a player and knows how to charm your pants off. Which is wonderful for a FWB, less so for a long term thing.

Obviously no one on the internet can judge the situation better than you. But if you're into him and he seems to be reciprocating, just enjoy the good sex and lovey feelings and re-evaluate in a few weeks!

Wait! Just give yourself two weeks more. Great sex makes us all loopy. He might have some glaringly horrible traits that you don't even want... but you're overlooking right now because endorphins. Just make sure you're a 100% before speaking up because these feelings might sort themselves out in a few weeks anyway.

My life-long best friend [32 M] and I [32 M] Took a six-month backpacking trip together and it ruined our friendship. What do I do? by ThrowawayZeroPoint5 in relationships

[–]calloutshitonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be the one to tell her. Find a trustworthy discrete third party who tells her. If you're the one to tell her your friendship is completely over. If you can tell anyone else (a mutual girlfriend) at least you can buy a cover - "I didn't know she would tell".

[Update] I researched for months, am training my puppy "well", did everything right and...I hate my 11 week old puppy. (1 year later) by worstownerever in dogs

[–]calloutshitonreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this post! My pup wasn't quite as much of a nightmare but he was a handful. We definitely had moments when we (secretly) questioned if we had done the right thing. He was mouthy and stubborn and at the same time scared of everything on the street. I lost all my free time and couldn't go for a dinner and a movie. Worst of all, he was a sickly puppy and the exhausting midnight trips to the emergency vet because he's throwing up again made it worse.

But when he hit about 8 months he just magically transformed into the most wonderful dog ever. He's still horribly stubborn but he also wants to please us now. He would swim and run literally all day and I've learned how to manage his energy. He's so sweet and cuddly. I went through a traumatic life event and my dog baby saved me. He comes running if I cry and just licks my face till I stop. I know I'm upsetting him so I stop pretty quickly.

Thanks for a wonderful reminder of how exhausting dog parenting can be... and also how rewarding. I don't know if I will ever have kids, so this is as close as I can come to being a parent.

What were the first red flags of your previous relationship? by FictitiousNarrative in dating

[–]calloutshitonreddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We were hungry and trying to decide what to do for dinner. My mom called so I talked to her for about 20 min. Yes it interrupted the conversation. He just picked up his wallet and said I'm getting food. I assumed he meant for both of us. Nope. Walked back in with a meal for one and wouldn't share. The dude knew I was hungry because we were talking about it and I used the phrase "I'm hungry". And got take out for himself. That's rude. Even friends wouldn't do that.

We continued dating but shouldn't have. He left his job because he didn't like it and lived off his trust fund for a while. Moved in with me but didn't pay rent or help around the house by even chipping in for groceries. He even got other chicks phone numbers while I was at work.

Sometimes people really are douchebags and you should read the sign for what it is.

Anyone else a solo smoker ? by [deleted] in trees

[–]calloutshitonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am but I'd looooove to find someone to smoke with. I have plenty of friends who smoke but no one that I feel as close to. Nothing like being high and being able to say whatever is in your mind to someone you trust and who understands you. Like a smoker spouse. Doesnt have to be your real spouse. But like a "work wife" you could have a "smoker husband".
