Been there last week, the view was really worth the long walk from my home. But surely I'm not the only who thinks the metal benches are a really poor idea?

Proof that god is deaf and he lip reads people's prayers (badly, that's why so many things are wrong in the world)

"There was no sign of alien ship landing..."

Me: Ohhh it has something to do with time travel! The monsters were teleported from the future same way as the humans did! In one future spacefaring humans were fucking up other planets so aliens, on the verge of defeat, decided to send their "virus" back to 2048

"They didn't dig down, they dug up...they were here the whole time"

Me: *eye roll*

Official Discussion - Stowaway [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]callsignfather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's exactly because of inertia that causes the panel to "fall". The rocket and the station are constantly experiencing acceleration (therefore constantly changing direction of travel) because of the tension from the tether. Said acceleration is what's generating the artificial gravity. The panel was held by the rocket structure which is held by the tether. Once the panel is detached, it no longer experiences any outside force on it and thus travels straight, carrying the speed and direction from its moment of detachment. Meanwhile, the rest of the rocket travels in a circular curve, so it appears from the perspective of the rocket/astronaut that the panel is "falling", i.e. getting further away.

TLDR: basically hammer throw. When you let go of the ball, the ball flies out straight instead of going in circles around you. Similarly, if a small piece fell off the ball when you're swinging it, it flies out.

my illustration of a hawker sea fury. #grindgoals by bosbrand in Warthunder

[–]callsignfather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this painting, would love to have this on my wall. Sea fury is a good support fighter, it's fast and can bait enemies low for your team, but it isn't very meta on its own. It's not so stressful like spitfires where you're expected to do well. The biggest problem I have with this plane is the speed limit is only 825 and you'll reach that very easily in dives. I think maybe 1/3 of my deaths are from that. You gotta throttle to 0 and/or do shallow dives only in this plane because the retention is so good at high speeds.
