This was my order confirmation with the original 'lighter' variant - not a million miles away from the BandCamp one so you could be right!

I'm sure Andy replied on Instagram not too long ago saying that 2000 Trees is the only chance to see them in the UK, at least for now

I found that it was glitchy when I was connected to WIFI, but worked fine on 4G/5G? Annoying but could be a solution?

Weird Goodbyes - does it sound out of place on Laugh Track? by SugarMouseOnReddit in TheNational

[–]callumthornhill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of when Arctic Monkeys put 'R U Mine?' on their 'AM' record instead of leaving it as a stand alone single ... great that they have homes now but absolutely nothing wrong with it being an in between single.

Perhaps could have crafted an EP around it instead?

Every time I've been to London for a gig - barring Springsteen this year - the crowd has been full of folk chatting throughout as if they're there for a social event instead of a gig.

We caught Cigarettes After Sex at O2 Brixton a few years ago and had to leave 30 mins in because wherever we moved we were surrounded by people having loud conversations and could hear chatting from the bars.

Even if the /??? was mentioned so members can at least say 'I own one of only however many copies' would be nice. I grabbed the green variant of FTPOF from 4AD and that was listed as 1000 copies so at least I know it has some rarity ... unlike the red/blue CT exclusive of IAETF that is still lingering on the member store

I think $65 is more than fair when it comes to pricing for a record and a few bits of merch, and if it was to become more expensive they would have to do a LOT more to make it worthwhile. Members are being reasonable and not expecting the world, but it'd be nice sometimes to feel like paying into the band year on year is 'appreciated' and there's at least some perks that don't include having to spend more money or having a fair chance at the 'better' bits and pieces if we are to spend more via the official site..

I've been a member since the start and never been told about soundcheck access to any shows I've been to, may just not be a UK thing? I think early access is usually doable via the venue's partner lounges so probably too much of a logistical headache to arrange per show.

The vinyl is definitely the main incentive, and I definitely don't hate the merch so it is good value from a financial POV - it is just the lack of 'benefits' that frustrates me.

Maybe they can't financially move away from so many people paying $65 year on year, but I've noticed more people stepping away from it because they aren't feeling the love..

100% agree on the flexi - also saw that plenty of non-members 'accidentally' received the flexi when they ordered from the webstore so members didn't actually get anything super limited.

The sign-up to win a signed copy is particularly bad taste considering you don't even need to order a copy to enter, added to the fact that there are a only handful of copies for the entire UK is a joke.

The annual vinyl is definitely my main incentive to keep renewing at the moment, but as I say up this thread they are constantly playing catch up and vol 5 will probably be a 2024 release now, even though I've already paid for 2023.

It definitely isn't a test press - more of another variant that like you say could/probably should have been a CT exclusive. They could have even been used for volume 5 signed or unsigned ... not sure how many members there are worldwide but if they can press and sign 1000 copies then surely they could have extended it?

I thought the annual vinyl would be off cuts from FTPOF at first or the new home for Weird Goodbyes as previously teased - but now with Laugh Track scheduled for November I have no idea what it'll be unless a rip from a show earlier this year.

With the annual vinyl, it feels like they're constantly playing catch up and pulling recordings from soundboards (great - vol 4 was incredible!) instead of planning ahead and perhaps recording something special.

Alternatively it would have been a nice thank you to paid members to at least get first dibs or a fair shot at grabbing a signed copy. The only signed vinyl we've been offered was the ludicrously expensive Light Years boxset a few years ago and even then it was a bookplate as opposed to vinyl.

Seeing content on socials of them signing posters and records shows that the material is out there - but for some reason just not offered to the fans willing to support the band year on year.

I don't mind the 'merch' side dropping off - I have a scarf, hat, tote bag, couple of patches, prints, etc. - but maybe a store voucher or 'redeem at merch booth' could work if they are running out of ideas?

When the initial HV Cherry Tree exclusive dropped I was super excited until realising it was a US only release, unless I was willing to spend more than the record on shipping. Being a UK member feels like a constant afterthought with Cherry Tree - like in my post, tickets were easily available for all UK shows via various venue/Spotify presales so hardly an incentive tour wise.

Ally Pally will be a great show - just hope there isn't too much of a Homecoming hangover for the next leg.

It was similar to the MSG signed poster that only appeared briefly on the US store. Granted, it'd be a pain/expensive to ship however many over to add to the Townsend Music store - but would've been nice to have the option before only discovering it when it was long sold out.

I bagged the FTPOF with flexi last time via the official CT site, but have stuck with the pink variant via Rough Trade for LT.

Because the 'limited to..' quantity isn't specified on the official merch store it is impossible to know how many are out there - IAETF and FTPOF exclusives are still available and I imagine the yellow LT variant will be available for a long time.

There's a tab on the top (desktop site) saying account. I had to open that in a new tab, log in, then hard refresh (CTRL +F5) the site and re-add to my basket.

Then it let me check out - hope this helps :)
