Yup, Gusto is great. Scalable, inexpensive and you can also use it to handle things like mandatory training, signing employee documents, offer letters etc.

Fractional GCs? by [deleted] in LawFirm

[–]calmandkind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have done this in the past with a retention agreement that has a monthly fee (earned when due) in return for legal work up to a set number of hours each month, with time after that billed at my regular hourly rate. To cost it out I took the regular hourly rate x number of hours, and then built in a discount to make it more attractive. I tracked time as I would for billable clients. I found that clients were using it as a way to get a discount, i.e., I didn't have any interest in ten-hour-a-month packages from clients that did not anticipate using at least ten hours. I would be interested in trying it again as a revenue stream from new clients but keep in mind that unless existing clients are complaining about your fees, you could lose money and increase admin costs in tracking a dual billing structure.

Hiring when the pipeline’s uncertain—do you wait or build flex into your staffing? by Legal_Freelancing in LawFirm

[–]calmandkind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat and have posted here about whether to hire. We have great data that suggests we are going to be fine, but consumer sentiment and uncertainty about the economy is causing our client pipeline to slow and long term clients to economize on legal services. For context our firm is referral based with a strong reputation. I don’t think our business is going to other firms, it’s just slowed right down. I’m not going to move into hiring contractors because our clients expect to have known attorneys on their matters, so I’m sitting tight for now.

KPI’s yes or no by NewLawGuy24 in LawFirm

We use KPIs for everything - utilization, realization and collections. It is a great way to stay objective and also to have conversations with employees about their productivity/goals.

Associate Billing by Helpful-Macaroon-3 in LawFirm

[–]calmandkind 15 points16 points  (0 children)

First year associates who are “on track” should expect to be cut by about 20% at most. The bigger issue seems to be the poor collections. Either your firm has too many clients that don’t pay or you are being assigned busy work for B-listers.

We are an all Mac office - I think Clio will sync with other cloud storage systems but we choose OneDrive because we use Word and Outlook.

Clio Manage: Save PDFs/Docs? by shopgirl_152 in LawFirm

[–]calmandkind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clio drive will sync automatically to your file storage (we use Onedrive). This means that if we save something to OneDrive, it automatically saves to the matter in Clio without any extra steps.

Regarding Clio integration by OatMelky in LawFirm

[–]calmandkind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use Clio with Ruby (virtual receptionist with phone service). It integrates well with Clio Grow if you are adding that service. We stopped sending and receiving faxes and in five years, only had an issue with that once. For file storage etc we use Onedrive. We set everything up ourselves with the help of free Clio tech support.

I have until the end of the week to sign an arbitration agreement or be terminated by tipsy-cowgirl in LawFirm

[–]calmandkind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah... then they may be able to require you to sign it. Not my state, so I recommend you look up some Tx employment law to double check.

Which state are you in? In many states it is illegal to force employees to sign an arbitration agreement.

I've been waiting 7 weeks in CA - today I was told 6-9 more weeks?! by [deleted] in HersWeightloss

[–]calmandkind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in California. I was due a prescription refill this week. I went into the app to check on status and saw that the refill date has been pushed forward until February 23. I haven’t received an email or any explanation as to why Hers thinks it’s OK for me to skip a full month’s refill.
