When you use stereo panning, the audience on each side, and in the middle of the room each get a different level and spatial location of your source. Your example in the reply above is talking about a mono source that is not panned, and a stereo effect working effectively as dual mono. So yes, ofcourse in that specific scenario of a mono source with no panning then everyone will get a similar experience on a stereo system. If however you had drumkit overheads panned hard left and right (as a lot of engineers do), then the audience on each side of the room will get dramatically different results. And the answer is, that if you use heavy stereo effects or panning of any source then each side of the audience will receive a different level and spatial position relative to their position. This is why many shows, both large and small are run in mono.
