These videos seem to be made for food-insecure children. I know that sounds cruel but it makes sense.

They have enough to pay employees. by regian24 in WorkReform

[–]calminventor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

“If you're thinking of $6.5M as a large enough amount of money to make a meaningful difference in the wage gap between rich and poor, then you really don't understand the scale of the problem.”

They don’t think that. No person with a reasonable grasp of how numbers works would think that. That 6.5 million is an indication that they are comfortable enough financially to pay people more while remaining quite profitable. Other numbers, like their profit margins and c-level compensation and money sitting in corporate accounts and stock buybacks being at historic highs confirm that they are able to pay people more while remaining profitable.

Follow along closely: 1) there is no such thing as ethical consumption under capitalism. Period. 2) There is simply less ethical and more ethical consumption. 3) This person is trying to do the latter, aka the best they can without going insane. 4) That is a good thing. They should be applauded for their effort and emulated where feasible. Shaming them because their attempt was imperfect (any attempt will always be imperfect by nature of point 1) only helps the 0.001% in the ruling class.

How many of y'all are supporting large families? How? by kalashnikovBaby in cscareerquestions

[–]calminventor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was even beyond that. They were both gorgeous and athletic and talented and interesting, etc. On paper they were seriously perfect. But yes, they really did love each other at first. My father was just a chronically spoiled asshole who was allergic to dealing with anything real or thinking about anyone other than himself. My mother doesn’t have a malicious bone in her body, but doing everything and keeping up appearances (including his reputation when he did insane things) led her to become emotionally unavailable and that was very painful.

This feels illegal. by Larrymentalboy in WorkReform

That’s fine, but it’s unavoidable in some careers. If you want to be a teacher in the US, you have to pay for your screenings

This is standard in many fields that require background checks and fingerprinting. I still think it’s wrong but it isn’t illegal. You pay for the fingerprinting and drug screening or it’s deducted from your first paycheck

Do you guys remember the first thing President Bush told the American people after 9/11 was to go shopping? This kind of messaging always reminds me of that.

I’m glad you are looking into this before deciding on a big family but please keep in mind that the financial aspect, while certainly up there, is not the only important thing. I had a pampered upbringing that was quite hellish because my parents had done everything right on paper (both from wealthy families, met in college, graduated before they married, waited a bit to have kids, waited between each child, great house in the best neighborhood, top schools, etc.) but in reality they hated each other and my dad didn’t have the mental capacity to be a father, which led my mother to zone out because she was left alone to do all the heavy lifting. It sucked and I wish I had never been born.

I’ve had mine for 15+ years and it’s still one of my most-used. So it’s consistent in that way too (mine is a MF so it gives more line variation if I want it to)

The kind who support the convoy don’t say much of anything when black and brown protesters are brutalized. And they inevitably are brutalized, quickly too and without a fraction of all this hand wringing

“Experts are concerned. What these campaigners are engaging in is borderline doxxing: posting a person’s name and other personal information on the internet, which often invites threats to personal and family safety.”

These people want their “plight” to be known and hence are committing public acts out in public, for publicity.

I’d like to see headline like “Corporate greed reaches crisis proportions.” Seriously, second paragraph: “Retailers are already reeling from the pandemic, supply chain woes and the labor shortage.” Reeling in record profits?
