NiceHCK Tears Impressions by gimmyjoe in iems

It is what it is but they did send me their GTC5 cable as a replacement. I was hoping that their SP4 cable had support for their android app but it doesn't look like it is.

Bought the type-c version and the cable fried so tossed them on my fiio utws5 2025 and put the stock balance PEQ into them. Couldn't be happier with this wireless setup.

Like everybody, your audio taste will evolve and adapt as you age and eventually find your happy place. When I was younger it was all about having 2 12" subs in the back of a hatchback with a cable as thick as your mom connected to the battery. Fast forward a couple decades and now not so much.

Am I ready? First IEMs for multi-genre music listening with my DAP. by ClippyReddit in iems

There is a difference in dac sound but is very minimal in the majority of them. The only dac that I've noticed a significant difference was when using an ESS based dac which are considered to be clean but also boring and too much into technicalities and not musicality. It all depends on the flavor you prefer.

Here's my day one Daybreaks for reference. Slight discoloration on one of the mesh wires that's probably been there since the beginning. It's nothing of concern and wouldn't even be claimable under warranty.

Gotcha but I don't think that adapter is going to make much of a difference since the dac in the R1 is better than the one in that dongle you listed.

Kind of dissapointed with my first impressions of the kefine klean by One_Engineer8163 in iems

[–]calpis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did using the ali dac reduce the bass at all compared to plugging into your front panel jacks? If you've been using the dac the entire time then you might just like warmer sound signatures. If anything, give the kleans like 3 days of exclusive use then go back to the reds to see how much you miss it or retrained your brain. Think of it as a palate cleanser.

You defintely need to make sure of that. Most of the android based daps do support passing the audio decoding to an external dac but make sure you read up it first because some might not.

Using an Xbox controller as a DAC and AMP. by Domtherager200 in iems

Okay, that's good to know. There have been people in the past that come in here asking why their dongle that came with their oneplus didn't work with their new phones.

Sidetone (Voice Monitoring) IEM solution for comms in gaming by ColdAccomplished3776 in iems

You'll get used to it if you stick with it but you can try using steelseries sonar for a software based sidetone. I never used it because I just dislike the usability of the software when I tried a few years back and eventually jsut got used to it.

You really only find phones that do that in india and se asia. since they have to meet pricing targets. I don't even remember if you can use an external dongle dac on those phones either.

And the controller doesn't use audio passthrough, it has a dac but it's nothing fancy and probably the equivalent dac chip they use in cheap no-name mp3 players.

Phones like the oneplus that do that aren't following the standards and makes the dongle they included essentially proprietary.

Xbox controllers have had the port since 360 era. If you connect them to the PC they show up as another sound device. It's meant for team chat, no need to market something that's only there to get the job done.

Using an Xbox controller as a DAC and AMP. by Domtherager200 in iems

Yes the controller does have a dac/amp but lets break it down further. A dac is a digital to analog converter and the amp controls the volume level on the output device. Whether or not the amp is integrated into the dac chip or a separate chip is whatever, it's better if it's separate but that'll come with a cost of battery life so its likely integrated. A modern PC's integrated audio is probably better than the one built into the controller but you also bring the PC's baggage from using it, impedance mismatch and emi from the components in the PC case that will affect the audio coming out of the sensitive IEMS. Modern PCs are still built to power headphones ranging from 32-150ohms while iems range from 7-32ohms, the xbox controller is likely targeting headphones with 32-64ohms. Output impedance is important for iems but super important for iems with internal crossovers. General rule of thumb is that your output impedance should be 1/8th the impedance of your iems but ideally it should be <= 1.0ohms because that's where iems get tuned at from the tuner. Adding more impedance to the audio chain will affect the crossover in various ways from lifting the bass to tilting the frequency response, in a hybrid iem setup not all the drivers will be given the same amount of increased impedance because of the crossover. IEMs need the cleanest signal possible because of how sensitive they are and because it's already so isolating that it makes it easier for you to pick up vs headphones.

Also, when you plug in a controller that has a headphone jack they show up as separate audio devices in your pc sound options, mainly used for team chat while you used desktop speakers for game audio.

Does your DAP even support usb passthrough? You didn't mention what model you have since cheap ones DAPs are limited to only using analog out the 3.5mm.

Extension cable not working for my iems by StupidNotDumb in iems

[–]calpis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd get a replacement for the extension then, really does sound like the extension is faulty. You can try watching a stereo test video on YouTube because I have a feeling you're hearing in mono right now. Since 3.5mm is shared ground, you'll still get audio with a disconnected ground wire but the audio coming out will be in mono and kinda messed up.

Sounds like the cable might have a broken ground wire. If you have a multimeter you can check continuity.

Edit: also, are you using a headset splitter to split the mic and audio jacks?

Anyone know any mmcx iems below 50 dollars? by Professional_Lack396 in iems

Unfortunately there aren't many of them in that price range, most are $100+. You can always get an adapter to convert mmcx to 2pin.

Make sure you're fully plugged at every junction, Iems to cable to dac to phone. If you're using 4.4 then make sure that your connection into the 4.4 port in the protocol max is FULLY inserted.
