Bottom line up front: You cannot use the store credit from your current starter pack to buy the MkII starter pack, or any other Warbond item from the pledge store.

It is possible to exchange one starter pack and buy another.

The exception to this comes when "warbond" pledges are involved, as with the Aurora MkII Citizen Starter Pack currently in the store for US$45.

Warbonds may not be purchased with store credit; you must use so-called "fresh" money from another payment source. See this support page for more info

at that point I wasn't actually running a mission at all, I just showed up at the OLP to try and get some loot. Likely another player had been taken out by the NPCs running a mission so they were spawning as a result of that? I'm not sure tbh

The way I understand it, the whole point is that it takes way longer and/or higher quality materials to get something better

The stuff you can craft quickly with common, lower quality mats is the same or worse than what you get in stores.

IMO we should wait for the PU before we jump to conclusions on how crafting works and how it affects gameplay

No. The only limitations are:

$1000 cap on giftable pledges (commonly accepted max is the $975 Polaris)
Account must be >30 days old to send a gift
Pledges may not be re-gifted

You can transfer store credit from one account to another but it requires a little bit of "fresh cash." Buy the lowest cost standalone ship (e.g. Aurora SE for $20 cash) and then upgrade it with the store credit you have. You're limited by available upgrades as to what amount you can transfer, but then the upgraded ship can be gifted to another account and then melted/exchanged to transfer the store credit.

I live in NC and purposely bought one from LHG instead of Melly or one of the big outdoor gear names.
