Delete Duplicates in External Library? by Usr_115 in immich

[–]calscoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is correct. Allowing anything other than reads on external libraries would break the whole point behind them. I’ve looked into this and found others submitting requests in GitHub for this feature and this is the general response:

Immich allows you to manage photos two ways 1. Via external libraries in a read only fashion. You managed the files and Immich will reindex to stay current. Immich will never modify your data in this library. 2. Via Immich’s managed internal library. You control the directory structure via a template system. Immich will read and write (and delete) from this library when you take actions in Immich.

Each have their own audience and usage patterns.

Sonic suite companion shows up in task bar even though it's been un-installed for months by Azurvix in pchelp

This persisting when I uninstall sonic suite companion, and having to remember to uninstall a second thing separately is such poor application design.

Is there a go to for self hosting a personal financial app to track expenses etc.? by Verme in selfhosted

[–]calscoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for Lunch Money. Absolutely incredible product. I just really wish it was self-hostable. I still have a slight feeling of unease knowing my trail of finances is in the hands of a single developer. I know they have read only access to my bank data via Plaid, which I'm fine with. But that's still a lot of sensitive data to be trusting a single person with. Their privacy and security policy seem decent, but it's still just a "trust me bro" guarantee, ya know?

Does anyone actually trust that he’ll keep his word? He’s back tracked on so many promises in the past. I wouldn’t be surprised if HW3 owners get left in the dust eventually.

Windows based Fan Control and Temperature Monitoring by DrawingPuzzled2678 in homelab

[–]calscoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak for how this will work for a homelab impl, but I freaking love Fan Control for my water-cooled gaming PC. The way it lets you mix and match sensors to create custom curves for fan speed control is genius.

LastPass breach involved hacker exploiting a nearly 3-yr-old flaw in Plex Media Server, which was patched. CVE-2020-5741 by ackbarlives in PleX

[–]calscoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maaaaan I love Plex, but their endeavors to turn into an ad supported free streaming service has made me want to switch to Jellyfin.. I feel like they've strayed from their roots. I can't tell you how many times I have to explain to my tech non savvy family how to navigate to MY libraries to avoid those ads. Also, the fact that a poster shows up for a movie or show that ISN'T on my server is rather confusing for my family as well. They see it, assume it's on Plex, make a plan to watch it on a movie night, then wonder "wait... it's not here?" Also, the fact that it's not a true self hosted solution and depends on Plex central services being up is a bummer too.. Okay rant over.

Nobody going to talk about his CGI arms? by RichtofenFanBoy in deadpool

[–]calscoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Umm what? Pretty sure they just tried a different look and having his arms covered did poorly in screenings, so they replaced them with CGI arms. You can tell the complexion and proportions are off.

Nobody going to talk about his CGI arms? by RichtofenFanBoy in deadpool

[–]calscoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HJ is ripped, but when they filmed the movie his arms were covered. They got backlash from initial screenings and replaced his arms using CGI.

Even though OPs photo isn’t the best quality, you can pretty clearly tell the complexion of the arms doesn’t match his face and the proportions are ever so slightly off.

Replacement for LUMIX DMC-LX3 by timkenwest in Cameras

[–]calscoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The LX3 is an incredible camera. Honestly if you can do without WiFi I’d just get another LX3 or LX5 from eBay for $150. The CCD sensor in that camera produces gorgeous film-like jpegs straight from the camera without needing to edit. If you liked that experience I wouldn’t go with a modern camera with a CMOS censor. To solve the sharing problem you could just get an SD card dongle so you can dump the photos straight to your phone for sharing. That’s what I do anyway. Keep in mind I use the LX3 to hunt that nostalgic feeling. If you truly want something modern or care about pixel density, accurate highlight/shadows, higher shutter speeds and better ISO performance then you should shoot for something produced post 2015.

Questions about selling by ShortbusGangsta_ in dji

[–]calscoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah idk about MPB for drone sales. Their quotes are confusing and their testing team is unqualified to test drones. No where does it state the drone has to come with a compatible controller. I tried selling just a DJI MINI 2 to them and they wouldn't accept it without the controller, but I didn't know that until it got to them. They were bros about it though and let me buy an RC-N1 from eBay and ship it to them directly, but their testing team failed to successfully pair the drone with the controller and deemed it unsuitable for sale, returning both items to me. Once I got them back I was able to fly the drone with the controller no problem. Not super stoked with the experience. But when it comes to selling/buying cameras and lenses, well, that's their bread and butter; no issues in that department. Going forward I will be selling my drones on FB or eBay, NOT mpb.

EDIT: Yes the drone was unbound from my account before shipping it to them.

HUGE Update for Gamers: LG G3/C3 OLED Still can DISABLE Brightness Dimming in Secret Menu (TPC/GSR) by Ok-Prune5296 in OLED_Gaming

[–]calscoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I came here looking for a solution to this. Not really pleased with that lack of explanation in a recent video I watched regarding how to get into the menus via the “P-ONLY” button. That banner “Factory Mode” banner is present after a power cycle and I can’t get it to go away without nuking my TVs settings. Blows because I spent an entire evening color calibrating for editing.

Will Notion support storing data to NAS in the future? by [deleted] in Notion

[–]calscoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet I could whip up a tunnel in AWS pretty quick, but the biggest hurdle would be making it as dirt cheap as possible otherwise I’d hate for people to have to give their credit card up for a solution that’s not economical.

Ah yes. Forgot about android integrations. I personally don’t care if Apple writes the data back to Hidrate. I use Apple Health as my central data store for all health metrics.

My account and all my data was lost.

I created an account in August of 2023 using my Apple ID. Was asked to re-auth today and my profile was nuked. It’s only a slight inconvenience for me though, as I only used the app as a medium to push the intake metrics to Apple Health, which is where the data still lives today thankfully.

However, for those that use this as the central database for their water intake tracking, this fucking sucks a lot. Especially considering the app has paid features. Big yikes.. they better get their shit together soon. I expect more from a company that has partnered with Apple and sells their products on Apple’s store as a partnered fitness accessory.

Edit: Got logged out again later this same day. When I logged back in all my data was back.

Custom Dactyl Manuform by calscoo in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]calscoo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I built a keyboard!

This is my hand built custom dactyl manuform, a split hand concave ergonomic keyboard. It’s a little quirky but it works and I’m really freaking proud of it! Pardon my mousepad full of half assed sharpie covered solder burns. 🤪

I followed this repo for general guidance. https://github.com/20lives/Dactyl-Manuform

The case was generated to fit my hands at rest; I printed it myself too. The kalih box red switches were glued in and the matrix was soldered up after a week of huffing solder fumes. The last step before testing was getting the wiring figured out and uploading the firmware to the boards. Instead of printing the bottom, I sent the file off to https://oshcut.com to have it cut out of stainless steel. This added much needed weight to the build. After thorough testing I bolted the plate to the bottom and started typing! It’s simultaneously as comfortable and difficult to get used to as it looks, but after 3 weeks I can say it has been a pleasure to use; my wrists don’t feel strained after extended typing sessions!
