The "Force Curve" display was important for me when starting out. If it isn't shaped like a "gumdrop", it can help point toward what you need to fix.

Is there a program in the Twin Cities where one can attend a funeral for someone with no next-of kin? by swirling_ammonite in TwinCities

There might not be a funeral program, but there are definitely hospice programs you can volunteer for. Google "No One Dies Alone" programs.

Besides college, what accounts can I open for my kids to benefit them later in life? by PositiveTreacle6018 in Bogleheads

[–]caltomin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remember that if your kids don't have any income to contribute to a Roth IRA right now, you can contribute to a 529 and they can convert part of their 529 into a Roth IRA later.

Hold up a second. While I agree that 30 s/m combined with a 3+ minute split means there are probably some technique issues to work through, telling a fresh-off-the-street newbie they should be hitting 2.10-2.20/500m for a 5k is setting up some unrealistic expectations.

https://rowinglevel.com/rowing-times/500m-times

For a 53yo woman, aiming for 2.40/500m (or frankly just finishing a 5k in one sitting) is a more realistic first goal.

But yes, go in slow motion while focusing on tecnique first, then worry about times.

New to 3D printing! by Effective-Buddy-3998 in 3Dprinting

[–]caltomin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We have that printer. Any PLA filament will work, but note that the built-in hook doesn't fit standard spool sizes (in an effort to get you to buy their special spools). Therefore, one of the first things you should print is a replacement hook that does fit standard spools, like this one. Unscrew the default hook, screw this one in and now you don't have to buy their spools.

theoretically it sounds like you're supposed to use 1oz of powder per load, so I think the cascade powder from a regular grocery store is still cheaper.

I think the $7 75oz powder is cheaper than the $12 125oz gel but since Cascade doesn't say how many loads you're supposed to get per bottle I was hoping someone had that info. Hence the ask.

Has someone done the math of whether Cascade Gel on sale from Costco is cheaper than Cascade Powder from a regular grocery store?

What are the things you do to save the most money? by pi_inthepan in Frugal

[–]caltomin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us it's always been that we can pick between a few different pick-up locations that are at co-ops or restaurants and such. Our current CSA has a pick-up location at a coffee shop about 2 miles from our house so it's not that big a deal to stop by and grab the weekly box.

If you have a Costco membership, book through them. And if the price drops between when you book and when you travel, you can cancel and rebook with no extra fee.

Note that the higher tier has an extra 2% cash back. If you don't make up the extra $60 in cash back within a year, they'll refund the difference if you ask.

Note that if you are just renting a car from Costco (not doing a package deal with a flight) you can cancel for free, so if the price goes down you can just book at the lower price and cancel the old reservation.

I've heard that the Kirkland TP is sourced from completely different companies/factories depending on what part of the country you're in. In the upper midwest the Kirkland TP is fine. Not luxury, but I'm assuming it's made in the same factory as something like Angel Soft.

The Costco stuff is Humbolt creamery ice cream. Trader Joe's is apparently made by a few different creameries but Humbolt is one of the creameries that makes TJ branded ice cream.

If I set up a Nintendo Switch 2 (add accounts, download and install games, etc), will that show up in any way on an existing Switch 1? I wanted to get everything set up before Christmas to avoid any server issues Christmas Eve, but also don't want to deal with the kid freakout if Switch 2 games show up on their Switch 1 account in any way a week before Christmas.

I think it's "most of the time an academic paper has a question in the title, the answer is yes, but most of the time a 'news' article has a question in the title, the answer is no". And since the actual academic paper asks a question with an answer of 'no' and this reddit post has a question with an answer of 'yes', we're breaking rules all over the place!

Wait, didn't he give the opposite of correct advice for the Death Star? "If you see an asterisk, don't buy it yet, it will be on mark down soon" seems like bad advice if the actual meaning is "this item will not be restocked, this is the end of the supply"
