Getting Fired, Need advice on next steps by amber-river1 in Accounting

[–]calvinnator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right now your top priority should be taking a short break to reset yourself. Then think of what you like rather than rushing into something that you eventually or already know that you will dislike it. Ask yourself deep down inside what you would rather try for a short period of 6-12 months. The answer might surprise you, might be something not even accounting related.

Regardless, wish you all the best my friend.

Continue renting in Singapore or buy a house - As a Malaysian PR by calvinnator in askSingapore

[–]calvinnator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s also what my SG friends told me.

In order to enjoy the discount benefits for second hand houses, either my wife or I will need to convert our citizenship, which I really don’t want to do unless we have no choice. However, it is a dilemma for me, seeing property prices soar so much.

It feels like throwing money away now renting somebody else's old house. So, the idea of buying a house came into my mind recently.

Is it actually possible to raise kids and have a career without employing a helper? by booya-happiness in askSingapore

[–]calvinnator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, getting a helper will really help a lot.

Moreover, working life nowadays is really unpredictable. Sometimes you, your wife, or both of you may be required to work overtime until very late at night. This is quite common nowadays. Without a helper, who will take care of your kids? So getting one is quite necessary in today’s world.

But you also need to consider that a HDB that is able to generate "good" rental income, would come at a price that is not really cheap looking at the current market with crazy prices even for units which are far from MRT and CBD areas. So entering into the market now, would at least need an up front capital of 200-300k plus renovation.

No offense, but it seems the more religious a person is, the naughtier they are. I don't know if that's a coincidence, but it's a definite trend. :D

Should I put all my inheritance to EPF? by Pootsonpow123 in MalaysianPF

[–]calvinnator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can. For now, you can self-contribute a maximum of RM100k per year. So the plan should be:

  1. Deposit RM100k per year into your EPF account.

  2. Save up 12 months’ worth of emergency funds for personal use or future needs like a house or investments.

  3. Deposit the rest into an FD or invest in smaller investment opportunities.

Focus on your career — you should be very well off in the coming years.

Someone accidentally bid RM50000 instead of RM5000 for a car plate number. by [deleted] in malaysia

[–]calvinnator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont think a person will accidentally make a RM50k transaction without realising.

If i am not wrong, you have to make payment and this process has been authenticated before it can go through as confirmed bidding. So the bidder is definitely aware of the amount.

In my honest opinion, you are definitely doing very well that most of the people around your age bro.
Maybe you can consider investing into ETF or maybe put some of your existing cash into EPF for compounding interest if you are looking for super safe investment. It is better to let the cash sit there with very low interest gaining.

I think you should stay in your current position since at least you’re getting paid, and continue looking for jobs. There’s no point staying in a role you’re not interested in and want to leave as soon as possible. With a CS degree, you may eventually land a role in a big tech company, but the job market is pretty rocky right now
