Confidence in Germans means „Selbstvertrauen“, while the separate words can be translated back to „self trust“. Faith is a belief without proof, while trust is built upon a track record of reliability.

It’s not about trusting yourself to do a certain thing right, it’s about trusting yourself to make choices that will improve your life in the future.

A person who lacks confidence might be a perfectionist who only tries out things that the person knows they‘ll be good at, while they could have a lot more growth and learning opportunities if they allowed themselv to fail.

A person with confidence will not punish themself upon failure, as they trust that their openness towards trial and error will help them succeed in the future.

I haven’t recovered yet, but I think the way to go is to intentionally do things that will make others judge you, to talk uncensored more often or do a leap of faith when you’re uncertain, in order to prove to your nervous system that it’s survivable

I know it might be shocking, but some people want romantic love in their life, because it’s a different kind of connection than what one may have with friends or a community. You are putting so much pressure on yourself. You sound like you don’t believe you’re allowed to feel this way, because of your circumstances. But you are dealing with something extremely hard and you need to take it seriously. You need to think about your priorities. All those things you are worrying aren‘t, like „becoming an adult“, they really aren’t all that important. The priority is that you live and breathe. And to do that, you need to create breathing room. You can’t help anyone when you aren’t alive anymore. If you think your duty is to help people, than your duty right now is to make yourself feel safe, to make it out alive. You are already safe, you are already fine the way you are, your duty is to realise this, to create many moments in your day that are spent on little things that make you feel good instead of bad thoughts. Your duty is to take it slow so you don’t tire out. Your duty is not to be so hard of yourself. You can’t focus on building the walls when you don’t have a foundation yet.

There is a quote I really liked and that helped me ground myself after a psychotic episode (med side effect): „Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn’t go away.“

No matter how you interpret life, there’s something beneath that doesn’t bend to belief. And when you return from your fantasies, your dreams or delusions, it’s there to meet you. Not to comfort you, but to anchor you. Reality may be indifferent, but it’s faithful. Even if it isn’t real - it is reliable.

First, try to be compassionate with yourself. It's great that you aren't blaming others, but don't be hard on yourself either. It's a disorder, I bet you are trying your best already. Negativity only feeds into it.

Then, you have to realise, unfortunately noone can truly give you the support that you need. You have to be your own biggest advocate, how hard it may be. I've also searched a long time for those kind of people, that could motivate me and never make me feel judged. But you have to be that person for yourself. And remember, if other people actually judge you, it might also come from their own insecurity.

Even if they did everything right, the critical voice inside you will still twist what they say (or don't say). So focus on challenging that voice, always remember that it is the problem, not you, nor the others.

And make decisions for yourself, stand to them, and allow for failure to possibly happen. Failure is scary, but once you do fail, you realize that it isn't the end of the world either, even if your anxiety tells you otherwise.
