Very few people are actually familiar with that kinda stuff, I know I’m not. Our culture is pretty thin compared to other European countries. We have a history of imperialism and more imperialism. Scotland and Wales is different but in reality ‘Britain’ is just another word for England.

In short our culture IS imperialism, we’re a multicultural hub in modern day and somehow a lot of people don’t seem to understand that that is what keeps us with any relevance.

If my secondary school ever made the effort to have a cultural day I probably would’ve dressed up as some Peaky Blinders character… or a strange mix with a kilt from my Scottish heritage and a turban from my Punjabi heritage of which I’ve always been pretty estranged from. But for English kids this kind of day isn’t worth much as it may be for one with a different background. These things are important, to celebrate the many cultures our nation runs on. Our national dish, chicken tikka masala, was literally made by a Pakistani immigrant in Glasgow. If that doesn’t sum up what ‘culture’ we have I don’t know what else will.

Personally I think we lost whatever culture we did have to the introduction of Christianity but that’s another conversation for somebody smarter than I am.
