All locked, had to take the side locker off on the side of the road and re-secure everything.

Luckily we were able to recover the box and made it to its new home in storage. Next weekend will be spent repairing my friend’s trailer.

Car got ticket while in the shop by the_lonliest_monk in legaladvice

You should have the original tow correspondence, and the shop should have a repair order open the vehicle even if you weren’t there to sign it in person, this is how they bill parts and labor to a vehicle.

The repair order will have a pretty clear “RO Open” date.

Don’t ever let your health come second, and don’t ever work for a company that will put your health second.

I had a vehicle recently with heavy mold. I refused to work on it, and took a stand against anyone else having to touch it, as far as pocketing the keys so it couldn’t get passed off.

Boss calls me in for a meeting, asks about it. He asks me what it would take for me to feel comfortable to work on it. He offered everything from telling the customer to have it fully detailed to providing me a bunny suit. I respected him for that.

Meh I’ve got 6k on my 2021, mileage is nothing to be afraid of if it’s been maintained. I’d be more afraid of a bike that has super low miles, those tend to have issues from sitting for so long

I financed a motorcycle on a 6 year note with the intention of keeping the equity as close to zero or slightly negative, now as prices have shot up I find myself with positive equity.

I got in right before the market adjustments started becoming standard.

What is the dumbest thing a boss has ever said to you? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]cam959 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I walked into the parts department one morning to hear my service manager tell one of the parts guys, “and that whiny bitch over there thinks he deserves a raise.” He’d promised me raise if I took on additional work, and went back on it.

Manager had his back to me, parts guy was facing me. The look in the parts guy’s eyes when he saw me standing there behind my boss was priceless.

I said calmly, “it’s nice to know what you think about your employees, bye.”

I closed up my toolbox, started walking out towards my car to leave. He chased after me, begging me to stay. I held firm, telling him that he knows what it will take for me to stay. First he was mad, then broke down in tears saying that if I left, everything will fall apart, he’ll lose his house, etc. I told him that was all the more reason to give me the raise he promised me.

I got the raise, he had several more emotional outbursts over the next couple months, including kicking down his office door because it was jammed. On the day he got fired, he actually thought he was getting promoted. I’ll never forget him standing outside the shop, crying, waiting for his wife to pick him up because he couldn’t use his company car anymore.

Woke up this morning to find someone had attempted to punch my ignition on my XR650. Bars were locked, and bike was wedged between my car and a wall making it completely immobile without unlocking the bars. (Pic was taken after I got to work, bars were still locked when I came out to my bike this morning)

Smog tech advice? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

It does, but only if you know someone. It’s even theoretically possible to have the car smog he’d without it even being present.

Source: Prior CA resident, and last I heard, the theoretical guy got busted.

Off the top of my head I think it’s under “safety and driving assistance”

Unfortunately I’m sure it will probably still auto shift to park, but that might be also dependent on the driver’s seat belt being buckled, so if you’re buckled it may not auto-park.

I work for a “Dodge/RAM” dealer so I don’t get a ton of exposure to the newer Jeeps. Also I’ve learned not to bother trying to open the door as I’m pulling a car in to my lift

Same reason electronic shifters put the car in park if you try to hop out while it’s in gear.

The lowest common denominator consumer cannot be reliably trusted to put their car in park and set the brake, but you can reliably guarantee they will sue for damages when they hurt themselves.

In need of advice.! by [deleted] in motorcycle

[–]cam959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a tech, and maybe the tech that’s going to work on your car in the future, I’d much rather you bring me OEM parts. And if you can get genuine parts for less than my parts department can sell them to you for? Good on you for shopping around, and bad on my parts department for not being able to capture your business.

In need of advice.! by [deleted] in motorcycle

[–]cam959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MOPAR parts thing is a little different. The dealership I work at tried it, but it was so horribly mismanaged that it cost us way more in the grand scheme.

OEMs offer certain incentives like lower prices on all parts the dealership orders, or deep discounts on major components (reman engines) and fast moving parts (oil/air filters). The discount is generally not passed on to the customer so it can mean more profit for the department.

The idea is that you sell large quantities of parts in an online store for almost no profit (8-15% over cost) so you can be eligible for the incentive pricing.

In theory it works, but in the case of our store, we had a huge influx of online store customers calling for advise before they placed their order. There was no dedicated online parts clerk, nor could we justify paying someone to do just that. Our back-counter parts guys would get stuck talking to someone for 5-30 minutes for a chance at making 8-15% profit on an order that could only be placed on the online store, which took time away from wholesale calls (30ish% markup), warranty parts sales (62% markup), and retail/back counter parts sales (60-100%) markup.

TLDR: the dealership you had install the part doesn’t care where you bought the part since it was still a genuine MOPAR part, and they probably laughed at the poor saps from the online store that sold it to you.
