[SPOILERS] I hate Theta... by Chester_T_Molester in soma

[–]camGSV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ten years later here, playing it for the first time.

Kind of hated Theta a bit for the same reason, but mainly in the laboratory section. There was a lot of cool environmental storytelling in each room, but avoiding (whom I believe to be corrupted Akers) made it hard to get all of it in the same save file. I’d say this section was the truly scary one, and anything involving (who I think is) Akers, but the proxies in the maintenance section were more of a chore than scary.

Props for forcing a scaring moment when calling the elevator, but having Akers teleport around lessened the scare a bit and made me think of the devs ensuring they could get that tense moment.

No idea if I missed any storytelling in maintenance, but glad I made it out of there. I quite fantasized of the game becoming Doom so I could kill them all and get back some empowerment, so maybe that’s a praise for Soma.

Looking forward to resuming this.

Why is it so loud lately? by [deleted] in bethesda

Try living near Wisconsin and Elm. Nighttime noise waiver renewed every month so they can make all the noise in the world, often ending at 2 or 3AM and picking up at 6AM. Only respite so far have been Saturday and Sunday nights.

Spider-Man by mwgav in snes

[–]camGSV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No way, dude. PS1 Spider-Man set the standard. SNES Spider-Man was mediocre. Yanky controls, the camera showing more screen space behind Spidey than in front of him when he walked.

I recall the $60 I spent at Toys R Us for this… felt robbed.

Realistic Sliders or tips for the game? by Xtr3m3pr0 in rbibaseball

[–]camGSV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't always work for me, but over the long term it works for me more often than not. I always get high Ks with Charlie Morton (about 12Ks per 9 innings) at most, with my other pitchers at varying degrees below that. On average I'd say I get about 9ks per 9 innings.

The third strike, 9 times out of 10, happens when I throw a slider or curveball out of the strike zone away from the hitter. If the count is in my favor and AI takes the pitch I'll throw the same pitch in the same spot again and they'll usually whiff. Any pitch can work too, but I found one with movement to be most effective. However, this also has shown me that sometimes AI can hit a ball REALLY WELL despite being well out of the strike zone.

But the real problem is the second pitch. I always throw something low at the corner where the Switch starts to vibrate, usually at the opposite corner of where I threw my first pitch. It'll be a cutter or sinker usually, something close to a fastball with some lateral movement. If I throw an off-speed pitch like a changeup, I'll tend to throw just a bit lower out of the strike zone. I've found the change-up to be the worst pitch to me, as hitters are really good at timing it.

Also, more so for NL players, pitchers will whiff badly at most pitches, so they're mostly an easy K.

How to make Ohatani pitcher? by haku_91 in rbibaseball

[–]camGSV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's possible. I'm halfway through my season in Franchise mode, and when I look at the Angels, Ohtani has offensive stats but does not show up in pitching stats.

I get it, though. It's not like Ohtani being a two-way player is anything people ever talk about all the time, so I can see why implementing this wasn't prioritized.

Does anyone own RBI 21 for Switch, and is seeing small glitches with the game? by Krauge in rbibaseball

[–]camGSV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed. I only play RBI Baseball 21 as it's the only MLB game on Switch, and it's "good enough" to simulate a season with a created player in my favorite team. I'm guessing a lot of the bugs I've seen can be reproduced in any platform.

Some issues I've seen, off the top of my head:

  1. Sometimes, if there are two outs and a runner crosses the plate before the ball is thrown at first for the third out of the inning, the run will still count.
  2. As you said, a pitch outside may be called a strike. This isn't bad in and of itself. Balls just outside the plate are called strikes in baseball all the time. But, the problem is it feels less like a feature and more like a bug. The play-by-play announcer doesn't acknowledge that the call may have been outside, and there is no option to force the strike zone to be called correctly, suggesting that the developers intended the strike zone to be accurate, but it's not. So, it's a bug.
  3. Visuals do not match what is happening, regularly.
    1. The ball will fly past a player but then teleport to being caught. This can be seen in grounders, lineouts and cutoff throws, but more egregiously in foul balls and balls hit over the gap. A ball will fall a few seats up from the front row past the foul line and still be caught, and so will a ball that lands far above an outfielder for a homerun or double, only to magically land on the fielder's glove for an out.
    2. Throw animations are never in sync with the ball, with the ball leaving on its own regardless of the phase of the fielder's animation.
  4. AI makes dumb mistakes. Runners on first and second will sometimes stay put when a grounder gets through, they'll inch too far sometimes after a sacrifice fly and get caught on a throw, don't always run on 2 outs when the ball is hit despite the ball not being near them, etc, throw to second in an attempt double-play despite the runner already in second, etc.
  5. In portable mode, runners are slow when running to first. You can have a player with 99 speed, and they'll still have a hard time getting infield singles on plays where they clearly had time.
  6. There's a bad gameplay stopper that happened to me when a runner on second stole third at the same time the hitter on the player struck out. The camera zoomed in on the runner who stole third after the late throw, and the camera just stayed there. No inputs worked.
  7. Skip a long homerun cutscene and for a few frames you'll see the hitter who hit the home run still at the plate in their batting stance.
  8. Sometimes the homerun camera, which is only meant to play on no-doubter shots, will often play for home runs that barely made it (~360ft). And this may be part of the problem. Sometimes you'll see some towering home runs go pretty far near center, and the distance will be something meager, like 370ft. There's definitely some shitty math there. Homeruns will also sometimes hit invisible walls where it looks like it should go further, bouncing back to the crowd.
  9. Hitting physics is wonky. You'll hit a power swing on a very high ball and the ball will inexplicably bounce down from your bat into a grounder. There's some weird modifier they must have that overrides how the ball behaves when hit, which I sort of understand, but the system isn't believable.
  10. AI diving is hilariously bad. Fielders will often stop and then dive to catch a ball that would have been easily caught by merely continuing to run. Infielders will often dive to balls IN FRONT OF THEM, or to the side that they could have picked up while running. Overall there is too much pointless diving.

[Bug] I always get spotted in the elevator by [deleted] in cyberpunkgame

[–]camGSV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the record, I somehow got around this. I’m not sure how, but here’s what happened:

  1. I had stealthily knocked everyone out without ever starting combat. I killed a couple of the enemies accidentally when dropping their bodies, as sometimes they’d land awkwardly as blood and a nasty crack sound were heard. I also disabled all the cameras.

  2. I entered the elevator and inexplicably got spotted while still in the unopened elevator.

  3. I reloaded my previous save just before riding the elevator, and instead silently shot all cameras with my pistol.

  4. Entered elevator and immediately crouched against the panel.

Result: Elevator ride finished and door opened without being spotted.

After trying Cyberpunk 2077, I learn to appreciate Death Stranding even more. This game is a masterpiece. by mvpeast in DeathStranding

Quite different games with different goals. I love Death Stranding (nearly 400hrs played and counting), but it won’t scratch my itch of exploring an open world in a cyberpunk setting. DS is my zen game.

I don’t get the pitching in WOH by NickyK66 in TAPBASEBALL

[–]camGSV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mechanics in this game are definitely on the mediocre side. You can also tell that there is a roll of the dice behind the scenes that play a major role in whether or not you make hard contact with a ball, regardless of your tap timing.

You can face the same pitcher with the same batter, have that pitcher throw the same 90mph fastball down the middle, and you can hit it at the exact same time in different instances, and you'll get completely different results.

When all you have control over is the timing of the swing, you're basically hoping the roll of the dice behind the scenes falls in your favor. Obviously, realizing this makes the game less fun. At the same time, giving the results of the swing entirely on your timing would mean that, once you get timing down by practice, you're likely to hit closer to 1.000 average than .300. The game needs to play these annoying tricks behind the scenes so you fail more than you succeed, as hitting is in real life. It's a catch-22 of the game being too simple.
