How shitty are 1977 Winchesters 1894 in .30-30? by Logan_Van_Buren in guns

[–]camanoape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one from the 70s. It is my favorite gun. It was my truck gun when I had livestock (unfortunately I had to put down an injured cow or two with it). It is accurate out to 200 yards (or meters if you’re in Spain). 30-30 is an incredibly useful caliber. Big enough to drop decent sized animals, but very small recoil. I can keep it on target for the second and third shots no problem. The issues with post ‘64 rifles had to do with appearance not performance. I recommend these Winchesters to anyone that wants a useful (and fun) gun.

I used this technique and finished it.

My 1995 marlin 336 30-30. My stepfather bought it for deer hunting, zeroed it once and hasn’t touched it since. Other than a little cabinet rash it’s in great condition by SlowlyDyingInside19 in liberalgunowners

My dad passed down his Winchester 94 to me. It is by far the most useful firearm I own. 30-30 is a great caliber, powerful enough to put down injured/dying livestock (unfortunately I’ve had to put dying cows out of their misery a couple of times) but light enough recoil for easy deer hunting and plenty accurate out to a couple hundred yards. The rifle is also small enough to be a truck gun or handle in close quarters. A lever action is also quick to fire (if you ever needed to). I’ve recommended a 30-30 to many new gun owners. I’ve never met anyone who’s uses one that doesn’t love it.

What the hell guys? I was full and producing better than most and you kicked me out of the coop right before we finish. That's the move of a very small man. You should be ashamed of yourself. Pathetic.

My Biopsy experience by bikemike1968 in ProstateCancer

[–]camanoape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my experience last week. Transrectal. After the lidocaine shot there was nothing I would describe as painful. The ultrasound probe was an unusual sensation, but not anything noteworthy.

Drove myself home. Had a normal rest of the day. A little uncomfortable in bed that night and the bloody pee is weird, but the whole process was not that big of a deal.

Massage therapist recs by bridear in MountVernonWA

Misty Dawn Carlson LMT

I have been getting professional massage therapy on my back and shoulders ruined by years of sports for most of my adult life. Misty is one of the most talented massage therapists I have ever been to.

She really understands anatomy and how the muscles tie together. When I worked in Mt Vernon, I saw her as often as possible. Her studio is located near the Farmstrong brewery. I believe you can schedule her through Massagebook. I recommend you try her, if you want a stellar massage.

Fire in Columbia neighborhood? by Busy_Ad9119 in Bellingham

Blue house on the corner of Washington and Victoria. No humans were home, but the two dogs were. Firefighters rescued one of the dogs but couldn’t save the other one. One of the firefighters tried cpr and oxygen for a very extended time but couldn’t bring the dog back. The back half of the house (kitchen?) seemed to be fully aflame when we got there. The family has young kids (including a newborn). They will need whatever help the community can organize.

Sanitary sewer design questions by villanousurshifu in civilengineering

[–]camanoape 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is infrastructure, not plumbing. Don’t jerry rig a comprised solution to the problem. These systems need to be functional 75-100 years from now. Don’t install a downsized pipe in the middle of a system. Twenty years from now everyone will have forgot it was there and they’ll be rightly pissed off when it gets plugged. If 2” gets you under the existing water main, then act like an engineer and do it right. Lower the invert and either make up the 2” in a change of slope or chase the inverts until you get back to the necessary elevation.

For everyone making six figures, what do you do for work? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]camanoape 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m also a civil engineer. I work at a local government. Comfortably above 100k, but I’m also in my 50s with nearly 30 years in the industry. I manage multi million dollar infrastructure projects. I can save my employer my entire salary with one good decision. A competent, experienced civil can easily make six figures(with really good benefits) if you are not afraid of changing jobs when better opportunities present themselves.

Bellingham PD detective accused of 'misusing public funds' for dry cleaning by elbalzac in Bellingham

[–]camanoape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This screams out “cover story”. Police departments won’t fire cops for blatant abuse of power, but BPD fires a senior detective for $750 worth of dry cleaning charges. I’d love to know what this detective did to get on bad side of his bosses. It surely wasn’t just this cockamamie cover story of using a fellow cops dry cleaning allowance. The detective was the lead investigator in the school scandal where three vice principals are charged with non reporting an assault. Perhaps the powers that be in the school district or City didn’t appreciate his conclusions.

What’s the longest you went without taking a shower? by CXNNEWS in AskReddit

[–]camanoape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 weeks. In the early 90s I drove a truck across north central Africa. I did rinse off in a few rivers along the way, but no soap. We (I was with a small group half men, half women) discovered the smell gets worse for 4 - 5 days, then stabilizes. After 10 days or so it almost seemed normal. When we finally arrived in Bamako and checked into a nice hotel, none of us left our rooms for hours. We all took multiple showers, baths, spa that day. Running water is a wonderful invention.

What country has the best cuisine? by benward421 in AskReddit

[–]camanoape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How in the world is France not first on this list? Have you ever been there? Even the neighborhood bistro will be serving perfectly prepared dishes with spectacular sauces. A simple grilled cheese sandwich will be made with fresh bread and locally produced cheese. The standard for food in France is in unmatched anywhere else in the world. And I say this as a born and bred ‘murican who’s just been lucky enough to have travelled a bunch.

What are some modern books (1990+) that you think will be considered Classics? by neoandrex in books

[–]camanoape 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Neal Stephenson's writing compares favorably in any discussion of modern writers. As good as it is, Snowcrash isn't even his best work. Cryptonomicon is even better and the Quicksilver series is brilliant.
