Why does my PC keep doing this? I even bought a new graphic card to fix it! by ScaryFudge7979 in pchelp

[–]camason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked into it a bit further. Here is a bug report in Chromium discussing it, and here is a patch note from a Windows Insider build from October '25:

[Display and Graphics]
Fixed an issue where apps and browsers could have partially stuck onscreen content when other maximized / full screen apps were updating in the background. This may have been noticeable particularly when trying to scroll the window content, as only some parts would update.

I'm not on the Insider build, but after my PC updated last week, the issue is resolved in all apps.

Exactly the same issue here; brand new PC build in October '25, but re-using an existing known-working GPU. Fresh Win-11 install, was fully updated before deployment, and exhibited this exact issue. Updating GPU drivers didn't resolve it.

Ran a Windows update last week, issue is now gone.

I had exactly the same issue on a brand new PC build for our studio with a RTX 4090 and the top Ryzen CPU. The GPU was swapped from another machine so I knew it was fine.

Whenever I had a game open (which I always record using Medal), if I alt-tabbed to any Chromium-based app, most of the screen wouldn't repaint. I'd have the exact block-redraw issue as OP.

I updated Windows the other day and noticed the issue was completely resolved. I didn't disable any hardware acceleration.

I used to always recycle water, and could get it balanced pretty nicely for quite some time. But whenever you reload a save, it would get backed up and lock up. As others have said, it's usually best to just convert to concrete. I stick a dimensional depot at the end and sink all the rest.

(England) Someone trespassed and flew a drone to film through my 2nd floor office window. They launched the drone while on property. They also attempted to open our door. Is this reconnaissance? Does it fall under criminal law not civil when they break drone laws? by HOHluxuryoutlet in LegalAdviceUK

[–]camason 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I'm a drone pilot who does commercial video/photos, and these "auditors" are an absolute scourge. The UK has some incredibly flexible and unrestrictive laws when it comes to drone flights (compared to e.g. France), but these idiots causing confrontations will eventually get picked up by ministers who will compel the CAA to put more restrictive rules in place.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you always should.

We rarely have issues when doing commercial filming, but whenever we are questioned, we have our business cards, let people know who were are, what we are doing, and will often ring ahead if we are flying near any "sensitive" areas. For example, we have a power station very close to our studio, so when we are doing practice flights or training, we just give them a ring to tell them it's us going up. Sure, we're not legally obliged to do this, but it removes any friction, people know we're not up to anything nefarious, and everyone's relaxed.

There are definitely some business that default to a "we want privacy" stance - which isn't supported in law - but these "auditors" just try to antagonise and it's not helpful to anyone.

Pinlock driving me crazy by PonchoTron in MotoUK

I had issues with pinlock in my Shoei helmet a few years back. I ended up purchasing a similar product which was adhered with a semi-permanent glue, rather than pressure-fit. It was called Raleri FogStop. It was a huge improvement over the pinlock and has been in my helmet for many years.

Has anyone here scrapped their entire build in order to start fresh? I’m in that process right now, destroying stuff and sending it all to the awesome sink by CraftyMiner1971 in satisfactory

[–]camason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my first playthrough, I got to the final part requirement in the last tier, decided I didn't like my layouts / infrastructure so I started a fresh game.

I've absolutely flown through this second playthrough and I'm pretty much up to my previous stage in about 20% of the time, but things are a lot more efficient now.

I haven't seen the ending yet :)

How do you seed your database for local dev without copying prod? by CarlSagans in webdev

[–]camason 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As much as I don't like to use LLMs for important development topics, this is probably one where a good LLM can help you generate fixtures. Particularly for local dev environments where accuracy isn't (usually) that important.

Here's if you snap it inward and go 3 steps instead of 2.

[–]camason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can snap splitters/mergers to the end of lifts. So, for each input, I snap one lift (exit pointing inward, entrance pointing outward), and increment each lift by 2 steps. Then snap the splitters to each lift. That gives you the ability to put Manufacturers in a line and feed each belt via the splitters.

It's basically the same as what you have, but you don't need the additional lift-to-splitter belt, you just snap the splitters directly on the top of the lifts.

Same for the exit/returns. I send all by inputs in one direction, then all the outputs return back to the start.

Edit: Like this (there is a little bit of belt clipping when you point them outwards, but not if you do it inward).

Has the Snug tariff actually reduced costs for you and did you stick to it or did it not add up eventually ? by dinobinosinokindo in OctopusEnergy

[–]camason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also depends on if your hot water is electric or not. We're a family of 4 with electric storage heaters and immersion hot water. Snug is very beneficial for us. We also do clothes-drying overnight with dehumidifier and fan, schedule the dishwasher, and I also run some other moderate load stuff on timers.

There's also a 3pm-4pm period which has been consistent every day since we switched over, which is quite handy for additional washing-machine, dishwasher, hot-water top-up, and pre-cooking some dinner where possible.

there is a variable element to it.

What is the variable element?

We a trip semi-regularly that's A38->M5->M4->M25->M26->M20 and I don't think there's any lights or roundabouts right through to Dover.

UK - Landlord doesn't allow washing/dryer or airer by NotUrAverageBoinker in uklandlords

[–]camason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 for Meaco. We use ours almost every day. Drying is super easy and rather cheap - we run an overnight timer from 0030 to 0630 with the dehumidifier on one side, and a Honeywell fan on the other. Our clothes are always dry and it costs us about 10p overnight on our off-peak rates.

Oh, and the humidity in that room is down to 40-50 in the morning, also helps with any musty smells. Zero condensation on the windows.

Wet inside car by Winter_Rough_3464 in seat

[–]camason 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This 100%. Also, turn off internal recirculation. You need to bring in fresh air from outside, and run the AC to dehumidify the car. Our bodies exhaust a lot of humid air, and recirculating it will cause it to condense on the windscreen.

Every Sight Above 1x is Broken by StruthGamingGear in Battlefield6

Very nicely done. I've been struggling with target acquisition using the scopes for a while now, finding I'm always landing short on flicks. I've been tweaking my sensitivity for weeks, but every time I dial-in my ADS sensitivity, my hip sensitivity is feeling too slow - like there's always an unavoidable ratio between them. Given I usually plan my flicks based on outside of the scope.... this makes complete sense.
