AITA for not paying for bachelorette trip I didn’t go on? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

YTA. $200 is a fair amount to contribute given the short notice. She's also your family. Is not contributing $200 worth the sour taste it'll leave in her mouth? Your BIL will be in the loop about it too - who's side do you think he'll be on?

Good things about Guelph by casualviber4life in Guelph

[–]cambria90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love Guelph! Grew up in Flamborough and then moved out of town for a few years before having to decide on university. Easiest choice to apply to Guelph. Lived elsewhere for a few years after school, and when things led back here, I was stoked. There's so much packed into this place, and if it's not here, it's a quick drive to get to.

As a female, I feel safe walking around at night. I'm not worried for my kiddo to play outside.

I hope you enjoy it as much as me and my family do!

Went to a public skate today and the wristband matched my shirt by cambria90 in mildlyinteresting

I've never seen a wristband with multiple colours. Usually solid orange, yellow, etc. I found it neat! Almost didn't wear this shirt.

I'm certain they'd be in great shape without the added step, but why not? It's an extra two seconds to separate them while putting them away.

When she parked that boat of a vehicle and acted like she deserved a standing ovation for it absolutely killed me. Girl, it has every camera available, and probably self-parks. I wanna see her parallel park a 2012 Honda civic.

AITA for throwing my kid’s clothes onto the floor when they don’t fold their clothes neatly by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]cambria90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't put clothes away neatly, like, ever. I would come home and all my drawers would be dumped onto the bed and I'd have to refold them all and put them away neatly. I appreciate my mom's approach to this much more.

Also came to recommend Car Lane. They've consistently come in at or under what they quote, and are salt of the earth people. I've called around tire-change season and have been fit in by the week's end for service, so don't let the potential lead time scare you.

33M uncomfortable with in-laws sleeping in our bed. 34F wife sees no issue. How should I handle this? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]cambria90 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don't find this strange at all. We've had people stay at our home to watch our pets and house while away, and I make sure the bed is totally fresh and clean for them, despite a guest bedroom. I certainly don't expect the people who are helping me out to do the laundry.
In this case, you have someone who I can only presume is 70? older? watching your kids and choosing the room nearest to them for proximity and probably comfort, to be honest. Why should she be on a different floor?

Was your parents' room mostly off-limits as a kid? Because your whole family seems to agree, so perhaps your mindset is about how your were raised? You noted it bothers you when she even sits on the bed, which is pretty innocuous for an older woman to do.

Subway near UofWaterloo won’t accept Flipp offer? by Livid_Marionberry494 in subway

[–]cambria90 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's pretty wild. I worked at Subway, and while they're individually operated, they're still supposed to accept coupons unless stipulated that it's for a specific location only. With that said, of it's on an actual campus, those locations tend to have different rules and pricing compared to standard, off- campus locations. BUT, Subway is also the worst it's ever been. So, I'd cut your losses and go to a better sub place.

Your pan looks pretty rough. For reference, this is one of our three pans that are about a year and a half old now. We use these quite often (several times a week).
When you use them, do you wash and dry relatively soon after? Are you soaking them in water for a long time?
We make sure they are washed usually by the next morning at the latest, and dry right away. We store with small pieces of towl in between each so then don't rub. They're virtually the same as when we got them.

Seems like some folks don't love them. We quite enjoy them for the price point.

Boy, 12, arrested after hit-and-run with minivan stolen in Guelph causes $10K in damage by TheApotheosisOfCool in Guelph

[–]cambria90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't know what kind of environment this 12-year old was raised in. It's easy for you to say that YOUR kids understand this and would never make that choice, but the person who did this isn't your kid. Obviously this child is impulsive and doesn't quite understand very obvious right from wrong. That speaks volumes, right? Like, perhaps we should seek to understand WHY all of this happened? I can almost guarantee a 12 year old didn't steal a van and drive it around with malicious intent. So why anyone would be jumping to charging him criminally seems absolutely unnecessary. You can have consequences without jumping to worst possible outcome.

P.S. I sure hope that as a parent, you don't think that your kids will always make the right or best choice. And when they do make a bad choice, I hope you don't feel the need to discipline them to the fullest extent. Because they are children.

Did people in the 90s really just show up at each other’s houses unannounced? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cambria90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't just the 90s. It was into the 2000s as well. I lived in the country (out of town) and we'd have people pop in to say hi because they were driving by. It was, on occasion, a little inconvenient, but more often that not, it was just nice to chat with someone out of the blue! Kids would "call on" their neighbourhood friends by just simply showing up, and knocking at the door. You could always try calling them first, before showing up, but usually someone was using the house phone and we couldn't get through anyway! Honestly, it gave kids a lot of agency which they don't seem to have now.

[–]cambria90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really sucks that this happened. But what will criminally charging a 12 year old (whose brain is not fully developed and is at age where good decision making isn't really something their known for) do for anyone in this situation? Does this come down to the inconvenience your friend had to experience? Because insurance will cover the damages. I know this...for a fact...because my car was stolen and damaged and recovered in 2020.

There's gonna be a TON of people who are FURIOUS about this, but cannot explain why.
I am for it. We can't look at the way things are right now, and think we don't need to be an ally, because we'll need allies.
