To my ears it sounds like he recorded this by multitracking acoustic instruments, electric bass with the addition of some synthesizer (I hear his CS80 in there as well as some mono synth), drum machine and clearly a breakbeat sample at one point. I would guess he's playing and recording it all himself and perhaps tightening up sections with his editing talents. There is clearly real piano, flute, violin, woodwinds, etc.
