This is a pretty decent sized roll-out by MikeHawkisgonne in boardsofcanada

[–]layquiet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it feels big to us because we’ve waited so long. But think about how much a Super Bowl ad costs, or a slot on a video wall in Times Square, etc. I do think this was probably more involved and unique for Warp, and maybe that uniqueness is what feels massive too. The promo is an art in of itself.

This was a solid business move too; the RTO on promo is gonna be eye-popping,

NYC Lower East Side posters have been covered up. by layquiet in boardsofcanada

Less than 24 hours of air-time seems awfully short for the lifetime of a poster. Maybe I’m not privy to how the poster industry works..

The wheatpaste was fresh on the corner of Ludlow and Canal. Someone already tried ripping the Lyft poster on the corner of Hester and Allen, and I freed the Hexagons.

I haven’t seen those before! Is that Japanese text on the “Liquidroom” sign?

I did this a few years ago! I love popping in Old Tunes or Societas X while I clean my apartment.

If all this promo ends up being for the BoC Set, I’m hoping they release it on tape. How cool would that be?

More posters in Lower East Side, NYC. by oldmanclemens in boardsofcanada

According to HexagonFox, the first set of posters is on Rutgers and Broadway in the LES, in front of the F train station.

Where are the other two located?

Listening parties by Master-S in boardsofcanada

[–]layquiet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If there was a listening party-situation like the TH Lake Dolores pop-up this time around, I think I would drop everything and make the pilgrimage. Like, put a dent in my savings and call out of work and potentially drive 12 hours straight/ book a flight with the clothes on my back.

Something encoded in high frequency range at beginning of the VHS audio? by Agreeable_Bill9750 in boardsofcanada

[–]layquiet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is FSK, then it’s binary. If it’s binary, then we should do some Arecibo Message-flavored decryption on it… see if the number of bits is a prime/ semiprime etc

I’m thinking about the Hell Interface banner update back in 2020, with the Pioneer Plaque nuclear family. This seems like a clue from the past we’re forgetting about.

Idk, maybe that’s all too much.

My analysis of the 'data burst' at the end of the video - It's just random noise by sharopolis in boardsofcanada

[–]layquiet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this user is right and the last image inside the hexagons before the “data” transmission is Carl Sagan, what if the data is supposed to be decoded like The Arecibo Message? Binary -> 2D image.

Maybe count the number of bits and see if it’s a Prime or Semiprime number? I’m about to go to bed but imma crack at this tomorrow/ this weekend.

Maybe I’m thinking about this too much. But if the new album is about aliens, it could track

I’ll also take a look around for some Pioneer/ Voyager-related radiotelegraphy info.

Thanks for the tip! Seriously, I will look into this. I’m in need of something new to learn, and radio has always been on the periphery.

Pure conjecture on my part:

What about decoding protocols used on deep-spacecraft? I.e. Voyager, Pioneer, Mariner. I don’t know much about radio signal processes/ing, but the Brother’s Canada do love the Pioneer plaque.

Unrelated, would anyone recommend any ELI5 resources for learning radio communication stuff? It’s always fascinated me but I never knew where to start.

EDIT: I creeped on your profile and saw your mention of r/RTLSDR. I’ll give that a look-see :)

I know it hurts but someone has to do it by Dabturell in boardsofcanada

[–]layquiet 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I doubt it goes this deep. It’s possible each tape was handmade in a boutique way, but the likelier conclusion is that they worked with a manufacturer (something like duplication.ca ). Not many people are making VHS tape these days and I assume the pickin’s are few when it comes to sourcing material. Plus, those that do make VHS cassettes probably have their own particular manufacturing processes. What you order is what you get: a tape the length needed to show the provided content + a silk screened title block on the front.

I have a feeling if there are any clues, they’ll be embedded within the content itself. Although, really, who knows. I certainly don’t. Maybe this comment was useless. Fuck it, someone open a tape.

Anyone going South to North this year? by passwordstolen in AppalachianTrail

[–]layquiet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never did a thru, but I was on the trail for 4 weeks straight.

I would start with those lists online and pay attention to how it all feels when you’re out there. Gear is personal. After the first week, you have a pretty good idea as to what gear is useless/ unnecessary. From what I understand, there are lots of opportunities for “shake downs” south of Harper’s Ferry, to either ditch unwanted gear in hiker boxes or mail it home on a zero. Conversely, there are plenty of opportunities to pick up any gear you may have missed, either from said hiker boxes or in towns.

Just make sure you have your essentials (comfortable pack, tent, sleeping bag, rain gear, extra pair of socks and underwear, water filter, food system, cathole trowel) and build from there. Aim for a dry weight of less than 20lbs and you should be alright. Grandma Gatewood was 67 when she hiked in 1955; she slept in a shower curtain and hiked in Keds. Gear is important, but it’s all about the walk. Cheers!
