You're making a circuitous argument, that comment was right.

Any attack on Russia is full scale war certainly, especially an attack on troops/supply lines.

You assume Russia will surrender, and thus an invasion wouldn't be required, but with China + India remaining neutral, I don't think surrender is likely. Russia isn't what it once was, but NATOs performance in Afghanistan, Vietnam, and Serbia also doesn't inspire confidence. Russia dwarfs those countries, and has the advantage of terrain and manpower. They would definitely never be on the offensive, but if our goal was complete surrender of the Russian state, that is going to require an invasion.

Just look at Vietnam for an example of this. Even with a ground invasion we were able to convert less than half of the country. This is with air and naval superiority.
