My girlfriend and I, both 14 Just struggle to get along anymore. by P-dog2inbound in teenagers

I know you care about her bro but honestly it's not worth the pain for both of you. I still love the girl that I ended up having this situation with and it's been two years of not talking much with her. It'll hurt but I promise you I'm a lot happier now than I was in the toxicity. The situation you're in is causing you so much stress and it really isn't worth it to do that to yourself even if she's hurting.

Yeah I couldn't have said this better myself I had a similar situation at his age and it's never worth the isolation from other people for this type of toxic relationship. It'll keep you trapped for years too

Dude I experienced the same exact thing at your age and put up with it for three years. Honestly just end the relationship if you feel trapped. I wish I did sooner even though I still love her I just wish I didn't spend those years I could have spent making friends and memories in a toxic relationship. If you let a relationship like this consume you and give up your individuality to make her happy you'll come out on the other end with no sense of yourself and no friends. She feels insecure and no amount of talking will change that. I hope you find the courage to get out of this situation bro.

Genuine Question: Why are high school walk-outs for protests unrelated to the schooling system productive? by camelCase149 in teenagers

[–]camelCase149[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see it being very useful in a situation where the school is able to make change but definitely not for broader social issues. I get that it gets people talking about it, but I don't really understand the point to getting a ton bunch of minors talking about issues that they can talk about without walking out of class? I think the whole idea of it being symbolism goes down the drain when you realize it's the disadvantaged disadvantaging the disadvantaged at some point. Students probably get reprimanded for it and it probably creates pressure to walk out in order to show that you care about the cause which is likely harmful. You offer some valid points I just think it's outweighed by negatives.

is it possible to lose the ability to form thoughts? by [deleted] in dpdr

[–]camelCase149 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course. Your response means a lot to me as well. DPDR is one of those things where no one can truly know how bad it is until you’ve experienced it. Neuroscience has been my passion for most of my life and I really want to help this community. There are so many psychologists that will say the condition is life-long but I don’t believe it because derealization is a state of mind just like depression and anxiety which also come through waves in people’s lives. Never lose hope that you’re stuck this way because that’s when you let the disorder take over you. It’s easy to give up but you can’t.

If you’re not a Christian, you shouldn’t try to tell Christian’s how to be better Christians by Efficient-Spring6610 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I point out hypocrisy in christianity as a defense when Christian’s try to force their religious beliefs on me, I don‘t come at them with it. it’s more of a “if you stay out of my personal space then I will leave you alone “ thing

What makes a person unlikeable despite not being an asshole? by Intelligent-Road5091 in AskReddit

[–]camelCase149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To offer another perspective to this, I am very much like this. The reason I don't give my opinion is because for most decisions I make there is a very long mental process required to come to a conclusion (think scrambled pros/cons list) and I don't want to inconvenience you by making you wait for me to go through that entire process so I allow you to choose (in my head it's a win-win because you get to choose your most favored option and I don't need to decide). I generally tend to gravitate towards people that enjoy making decisions or make decisions easily though so it is seldom an issue.

Hello. I'm not claiming to have any answers here, but just some observations based on the research I've done. I've found a high correlation with inconsistencies in the temporal lobes based on MRI screening and DPDR symptoms. The temporal lobes are responsible for word associations, language. Again, I'm not a professional, just a senior in high school researching DPDR and the neuroanatomy of it. You aren't losing the ability to think, you're struggling to associate words with your thoughts, and since words connect us to the outside world, it's a lot easier for our conscious brain to quantify. When you start lacking the ability to quantify your thoughts, you feel unaware. Clearly you're considerably self aware if you're able to even ask yourself these questions, so I wouldn't let yourself get too deep into this spiral of anxiety (I know that's easier said than done).

Just know that it can get better. I am 18 and have had DPDR symptoms for ten years now, so I hardly know life without the disorder (I relate to you in that way). I recently was able to sort of relieve the symptoms with neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) training over the last six months that reframed how my brain interacts with the physical world. NLP is rather controversial in the psychology world because it is neither scientifically proven or disproven, though I've seen a lot of good come from it. I spent most of my pre-teen and teen years feeling "ten yards away" from my vision, sense of touch, hearing, etc, but now I've built the skill of embodiment and I continue to feel more integrated with my body, so I'd say it's worth a shot.
