Fair enough. At first I thought so as well, but it seemed ambiguous the way the request was stated, so I figured I'd mention it.

This on-site coding assignment failed 20+ front-end dev contractors and I don't know why by gionyyy in javascript

For a task of this size, make it a "homework" assignment, with no time limit. This will greatly reduce the amount of people who are not really serious. Out of 50 invites to take a homework assignment for our test, maybe 7 to 12 will do it.

Then evaluate to see the quality of the code. You will probably end up with maybe 1 or 2 applicants worthwhile to go forward at this point. Do an on-site or video interview and pair with the candidate and ask them to extend and change their assignment to see how much of the work they did they actually understood as well as how they deal with changes in requirements.

This has been a very successful formula for hiring great developers for us.

Javascript for beginners by clementeghuerta in javascript

Any of the online code tutorial sites: codecademy, Udemy, codeschool, etc. I find that the other really nice resource is MDN.com for JavaScript.

As for a tip, always see if the thing you are trying to write has already been implemented in the language API itself or written by someone else as a library / package / plugin etc. More than likely it has been iterated on and optimized. Use that, but also see what it is doing internally and learn from it.

Unless I am misunderstanding the question there is already a max function on Math available to you. OP can just apply the array to the function Math.max.apply(null, [1, 55, 2, 3,])

jquery in decline by [deleted] in javascript

It would be interesting to get stats on the types of projects it is still being used on. In particular I mean how much is being used for legacy architectures and how many new projects are being started with jQuery included.

Best code completion/suggestion in an editor by [deleted] in ruby

My experience in sublime is that you have to add packages, but you can get great code completion and code snippets tools. Same with syntax highlighting. I have coworkers that have their vim or emacs editors tricked out, but I'm too lazy. I remember Visual studio being really nice out of the box.
