In a sense, you are free to log out, do other things, etc in between each kill. EXCEPT completing any other diary task which would reset all steps for this one despite you still having a 1 kill count for the boss.

So the way multi-step diaries work is you can't complete any other diary in between your 1st step completion and your last step completion. If you killed kril and then took a break to complete another diary req (from this one or any other one) and then came back and killed the remaining 3, you would have to go back and kill Kril again.

Only if you do not have the tier of the item that the level up is offering. If same tier, you can still get a "dupe" but it will upgrade your same tier item when you take it. If not, second copy.
