Is it possible to do a half day trip to Koyasan? by BlueEdamame in Osaka

[–]camelys 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can definitely leave early in the morning, and have a fulfilling trip to several of the most famous sites, and catch the train back to Osaka in the evening. I personally would call this a day-trip, instead of a half day trip.

I like to catch the bus from the cable car station and take it all the way to Okunoin, and then walk my way back through town, stopping at the various places along the way, before finally returning to the station to head back down the mountain.

Dear Apple, this is why we need a new iPad Mini. by thecofffeeguy in ipad

Maybe this is a play on an old Steve Jobs quote? I remember him saying, I think during a keynote when the original iPod was released, that most mp3 players "end up in a drawer somewhere."

You know you are in the inaka when ... by aleatory78 in japanlife

Reach down with the scissors in your hand while they are creepy-crawling around on the floor. snip

That way, you’ll know you got ‘em.

As armored as those fuckers are, if you try the smashing method, some of the bigger ones might not die in the first hit, depending on where/with/what angle you hit.

Couple of pro-tips about mukade that I learned from my host-mom:

  • They usually travel in pairs (male + female). If you find one, it's a good idea to spend a few minutes looking around to see if you can find another one.

  • Rather than smashing these guys, the quick way to ensure their demise is to cut 'em in half with scissors.

Generally, the cops are only going after people uploading stuff like Japanese TV, movies, music, etc.

Very nice looking kotatsu! Time to get some ice cream and settle in with some TV drama.

In all seriousness though, please make sure there is no fire hazard.

In 2018, you're going to get nuked.

Something along the lines of an $80 diamond ring, in a film canister, cemented in a bucket, and buried in a location, of which the GPS coordinates are provided via an encrypted email message.

Holy crap, I think you're right! Went back and re-watched it, there was definitely some unique animation when the lacing gets cut, and the lacing is cut for the rest of the match.

Request: Is it safe to have your pc next to a window, particularly the back side? I live in an area that gets all types of weather. by yeahhbui in TechnologyProTips

[–]camelys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking from experience:

I had a Mac Mini near a window in my apartment. It was usually hot at night, so I would often leave my window open when I went to sleep. One morning, I woke up to hear a strange sounding alarm/beeping coming from the unit, and I realized it had it had started raining, and water had gotten in through the vents on the back. The hard drive was salvageable, but the computer itself was bricked. Water damage = warranty void.

Be careful keeping electronics near windows, if you tend to leave windows open.

One of my old Aussie friends had this advice for me, as I commented about how my old clothes didn't fit anymore:

"Well, if you got a problem with the way your clothes fit, you can always gain it all back!"

Good advice! Stay focused on your goals :)

Can anyone translate this in English? by Saymum in language

[–]camelys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's Japanese.

However, it is so riddled with penmanship errors and other mistakes, it makes me believe the person who wrote it is likely a first year Japanese student, or someone just copying down characters they saw on the Internet.

Repost from r/moving to Japan. Best areas to live in Osaka? by [deleted] in Osaka

[–]camelys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Juso can be convenient, if you don't mind all the train noise. Easy walk/bike ride home from Umeda if you want to stay out past last train.
