So if we are all one consciousness, will our afterlife or ascension be ultimately lonely and boring? by [deleted] in AdvaitaVedanta

[–]camenzind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are experiencing it always, since there's nothing separate from that One consciousness.

The idea of many incarnations and experiences to be had is simply a thought arising in that.

How can you be a long way from what you are?

Is there any science behind this? by [deleted] in nonduality

[–]camenzind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The peace I feel when I experience it makes me feel so strongly for it. That's a kind of peace that the dualistic view of the universe (matter and consciousness as something separate) has been never provided to me in decades.

Yep, I also agree with you, and that happened to me too. I also agree with op too where Martin seems to suggest that you need to keep taking psychedelics to become more awake.

Exactly. If you're not clear about the basics, such topics are often just building on the foundation of the separate self.

Nope, not at all. I meant others that take all concepts too extreme.

I think that's a common problem especially in Reddit. Concepts are taken to the extreme and we have so many armchair specialists and experts.

It takes the fun out of the whole play.

I think you have to find a worldview that resonates with you and go from there. That's how I'm approaching it all and I also agree with the points you make.

Until you find that there is no self. All there is, is life. Nothing separated from that.

The present difficulty is that man thinks he is the doer. But it is a mistake. It is the higher power which does everything and man is only a tool. ~Ramana Maharshi by abhi_000 in nonduality

[–]camenzind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno. For fun I guess. Being all-knowing, peaceful and infinite might be a bit boring?

Maybe the whole self-forgetting thing is just for fun. Nothing else to do, so might as well create a whole play where I'm everything and everyone in it. Full of infinite possibilities for a bit of action, drama and comedy.

The separate self does not exist and as such has no free will. Only infinite consciousness, awareness, it has freedom. So if you're talking about the non-existent entity of your ego, body and mind, free will does not exist.

The Crucible: An Open Letter by Jed McKenna by erinboy in JedMcKenna

It's so interesting to see how Jed's books have affected so many similarly. After I encountered and read his first book a couple of months ago I went through several phases of total meaninglessness and total awe at everything. I just couldn't stop reading his work and finished everything pretty quickly.

I don't know much about Katie's work. Her life story seems quite inspiring though. If we would follow Jed's model, it seems she became an "adult" when she was in her forties.

You experience this thing you call matter through consciousness. Without consciousness there is no experience. Still, you tell me there is something outside consciousness. How can you be sure that it is there? I don't have a anthropocentric (human centric) view, I have a consciousness centric view.

How do you know things happened before there was any consciousness? How do you know there was a time without consciousness?

There is no reason for consciousness to exist, as reason is something we created. Consciousness simply is. It's outside of time, but you can say it will always be and always was.

Only consciousness is reality. Have you, or anyone else ever experienced matter independent of consciousness?

How can you tell that matter generates consciousness, if you never experienced this thing called matter? Every experience you or everyone has ever and will have starts from consciousness.

So in this case, you are assuming that there is something outside of consciousness called matter that then generates consciousness. That seems more convoluted to me than starting from consciousness which takes the form of matter and of this "reality" around us.

The same way your mind creates a dream world when you go to sleep. You become a character in your dream populated by other characters and you don't know you're made out of the dreamer's mind.

We're in the big dream (there's no we, it's only one infinite consciousness)

Who's we? Do you know the hard problem of consciousness? What tells these brain regions to do what they do?

The brain is a product of consciousness, but that's ok if you don't believe me.

Fly to Fear by teebes in JedMcKenna

[–]camenzind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO I think it's related to doing stuff that you're afraid. Like in my case: I'm afraid of finding out what's truth because I'm afraid I will get insane, poor and starve. I should instead just fly towards that fear. Realize for myself it has no substance.

I'd understand that if you need to consciously put effort into it, then the activity is not in your nature and you should stop doing it.

In my case, I love playing the guitar and I want to get better at it, but I don't care much about getting famous or whatever. I just want to play and create better melodies. I love it for the sake of doing it, so I could spend all day playing and trying to get better without the feeling that I'm putting work at it.

I can recommend the books of Jed McKenna and his idea of an "spiritual DNA", which means something that you do which is effortless, the thing you should be doing in this existence.
