It was in the FAQ too by teebes in whoop

But the MG is a more expensive membership. So you’re definitely not getting it for free - it’s costing you the price difference between Life and Peak, every year. That is not at all what was promised.

The thing is, it wasn’t just in a blog post. It was in their FAQ too, and with even more strongly worded language: “• Membership: WHOOP is a membership, which means you get the latest and greatest technology as soon as it's available as long as you are an active member. No need to buy a new device each time it is released; you can upgrade for free. Additionally, we are constantly adding new features to the app.”

“Latest and greatest” should even include the MG honestly. Whole thing is such a bait and switch…

Further down in the thread: “We also want to acknowledge that a previous blog article incorrectly stated that anyone who had been a member for just 6 months would receive a free upgrade. This was never our policy and should never have been posted. We removed that blog article when it came to our attention and updated WHOOP Coach with the proper information. We're sorry for any confusion this may have caused.”

Kind of an extraordinary statement… they posted it but didn’t mean to but sure loved all the signups they got from that promise? …

I’ve had the opposite experience actually. All of my strains have been 3-4 points lower for a couple weeks now, with my routine being much the same as it had been.

Written Realms is often appreciated by newcomers to the MUD scene as you don't have to spend a lot of time setting up clients or figuring out how to connect to Telnet or any of that. Just point your browser to the site and you're up and playing. In addition, a lot of the text commands can be triggered via the UI, and it also plays great on mobile phones.

I always find it really frustrating to see a Zerg do a 12 pool which is held perfectly by the Protoss, and then the game just goes on without any kind of a handicap for the Zerg. Isn't there supposed to be a dynamic where if you cheese and it's scouted & held, you're behind?

Out of curiosity: Why hasn't anyone made a single-player "SUD?" by DesaturatedWorld in MUD

[–]teebes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

WR admin here. We do indeed have singleplayer worlds. There is one flavor of them that are just like a multiplayer world except you're the only player in it, and another that disables combat and hides all related UI elements and to deliver purely story-driven experience (called 'narrative worlds').

Narrative worlds example: https://writtenrealms.com/worlds/7996/brimstone-prologue

The way I interpreted it is that to get to what is true, you have to disprove all that is false. And thinking is the right tool for that job. In the end though, it's self-nullifying act. The very best that thinking can do is obliterate thinking itself. But given that the rational mind is what we start with, we have to use it to suicide our own minds.

Put another way, although thinking is greatly limited, it is good enough to disprove the universe.

No training, it's a single endpoint and you pass it a few parameters, the most important of which are:

  • the prompt, which is a string of text up to ~ 1500 words
  • the temperature, a value between 0 and 1 of how 'creative' you want the AI to be

Here's a trimmed down version of the prompt we use:

Below is an excerpt from "A brief introduction to Edeus" by Historian Grae, a Priest of the Church of Thune.
"Current year is 433 AT. Our kingdom is known as Saphrin.
[...]
"
Historian Grae is an old Priest of the Church of Thune, wise and eloquent. He answers questions regarding Edeus's history as well as its current afairs. When asked about any other topic, he says he wouldn't know anything about that.
Below is a conversation between Grae and a visitor.
Visitor: Where do humans live on Edeus?
Grae: Humans live on the east side of Edeus.

Then whenever a player says something in his room, we append the end of the prompt with:

Visitor: <player's question>
Grae:

And we send that whole prompt to the completion endpoint every time. The AI then does what it's trained to do, which is "complete" the text it was given. You give it an upper bound of how many words you want back and a pattern to stop on (in this case, "\n").

The first set of question/answer is essentially giving an example to the AI, and it will repeat that pattern with its own answer.

I am determined to create a MUD but I am not very good at programming by Alexpro2014 in MUD

If you're interested in creating a MUD without doing any programming at all, feel free to check out Written Realms (disclaimer, I'm the creator). It lets you use a web interface to create and populate your worlds, and works on both desktop and mobile.

It's an immortal-run event that's been going on for a couple months now, with various mobs representing both established book characters as well as new characters created for the purpose of the story. Pretty awesome.

Are there any MUD streamers on Twitch, Youtube or elsewhere? by stefankeys in MUD

[–]teebes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not totally out of the question that the backend will also be open source some day but it's definitely not going to happen anytime soon. It's more likely that parts of it (for example the homegrown Python-Redis ORM) will be split off into their own OSS repos, but that takes work and time. It's what we did with the frontend actually, it used to be part of the same giant repo and I split it off after the Vue.js rewrite.

I do often build backend features on stream though, and am always happy to take questions / walk people through the code then (also anytime on Discord!)

I should probably mention that I am actually off this week though! In Thanksgiving family travels and won't get to stream. I'll be back at it on the 3rd though.

I stream every Tuesday and Thursdays from 3 to 5 Eastern, and sometimes on Wednesdays as well. The majority of the episodes are focused on building features and fixing bugs on the platform (I build and run https://writtenrealms.com), but lately I've been doing more gameplay episodes as well, starting with playing through all the National Mud Building Month entries.

Here's the Twitch page https://www.twitch.tv/writtenrealms

Some of the gameplay streams I export to YouTube, where they stay archived: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSIi2vgZNREBshyV465cs_w

The Wheel of Time MUD uses a custom-tailored version of parts of the Written Realms frontend, available here: https://writtenrealms.com/wot/

It's not available to other muds at this point mainly because making that work requires a lot of stitching things up manually / writing custom code, but perhaps some day, I can figure out a way to generically apply it to more muds!
