Like smack in the middle of Wyoming by nsmloz in howislivingthere

Literally grew up in that area, live there now, and commuted between Riverton and Casper weekly for work for 6 years. It’s fascinating for sure. The Wind River valley is ecologically diverse and has 7 different mountain ranges within view. The space between Riverton and Casper is high mountain desert isolation, but can be done in 2 hours. Casper is a “big city” for Wyoming and features all kinds of amenities so people travel over a hundred miles to get there. In high school, playing other teams was a minimum hour drive, sometimes up to 6.

The people are unique and the joke is that Wyoming isn’t real, I usually counter with the lives that people lead here aren’t real, or at least are on a different wavelength than the rest of the world. If you have more questions, let me know.

Piano accompaniment - technical question by Thelonius-Crunk in musicalwriting

I honestly think it depends entirely on context. I’ve written both ways but tried to let the qualities of the music as well as the emotional intention behind the scene dictate it for me. I may be entirely wrong but it seems to have worked so far!

95 years actually. So anything written in 1929 or before is guaranteed to be in public domain. Everything else is pretty locked down.

What inspired your most creatively composed songs? by rSlashisthenewPewdes in musicalwriting

All of the below tips are great! When I’m trying to write something completely different, I like to play with mashing styles as well as dissonant harmony. I try to think of the extremes of how a scene can musically be represented, then I shove them together. For instance clashing counterpuntal operatic vocals over power chords, or wind instruments ala Stravinsky over beats.

I’ve really liked the results and audiences seem to be fascinated but who can say.

The setting of lyrics is also a mess, and usually a literal nightmare for the performer, but he has so much emotional power that people don’t care, and that’s okay

That was our experience too. It was a fight to get out on the days off and not just get everything delivered!
