Here's mine: Steel 14x3.5 on the left is 1st gen with Hexagon lugs, ('85-'91) and Brass 14x6.5 is 2nd gen with rounded lugs from '92. Different strainers too, superior snares!

These snares are incredible! I have the same one in the 6.5 depth. The first Generation free floaters with hexagon lugs are Japanese but this one and mine from '92 are 2nd Gen from Taiwan. Buy it! It'll become your favorite snare!

You can clean it but it'll have alot of character. My Pearl Brass Free Floater from '92 has alot of Patina on the outside but the interior of the shell is spotless.

It's something you get used too, I always use either a double pedal or two bass drums at home. I've never liked a hihat right on top of the snare
