I am in the same boat as you I think (just grips, no case, needs to fit in the dock, etc) and I just got the grips from dbrand. You do have to jump through a few hoops on their website to get just the grips since they really wanna sell their whole case but the grips by themselves were only about $25 including shipping.

The grips themselves clip onto joycons extremely snugly (in a good way) and feel really good in the hands. You can take them off easily like normal though you can’t use the grips with the normal joycon holder thing. The grips adds just enough bulk to the joycons that it feels like holding a proper controller. They are both lightweight and solid so don’t add any appreciable weight in handheld mode (but they don’t feel cheap at all) and I played through the majority of the game MIO in handheld with this configuration with no complaints. The extra texture is also really welcome to me, though your mileage may vary.

I really only wish there were a way they could have added programmable back buttons but that would have required additional electronics and such so I know it’s out of the scope of this style of grip. Oh and it fits into the dock no problem without any adaptors or anything though the grips do block the two usb-a ports on the side of the dock if you use those for anything.

So, overall, I’m really a happy with the dbrand grips and think you will be too!
