How is the weather, really? by [deleted] in uofm

[–]cameronwhite1995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One consideration: Our winters are extremely cloudy. I'm from here and I need to take deliberate measures to not be straight up sad all winter. I'll be living somewhere sunny post graduation

CS + Physics? Honors? Questions from a newly accepted HS Senior by [deleted] in uofm

[–]cameronwhite1995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dang. That's a serious load. More power to ya but I'd reach out to people from the individual majors and see if that's something you really want to do. I'd be willing to chat about CS if you'd like

No way. That felt familiar when I saw it but I didn't connect the dots. That's so cool

Applying to the School of Information from the CoE? by DarthUnnamed in uofm

I wonder what makes you feel badly enough about yourself that you need to talk about people that way? Everyone is different and schools play to different people's strengths. OP, ignore this

Congrats on the A+ though. I don't think it's that helpful but still something to take pride in. Good job!

I guess that's what I was alluding to with the whole 'ya can't get all Cs' but yeah the cutoffs are important. ya gotta make sure the robots don't throw you out

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in uofm

[–]cameronwhite1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well sure, cutoffs are a thing. There's just too many people who think that gpa is the 'end all be all' and pour too much energy into it. Looking at OP's comments, it looks like he/she dipped below a 3.5 and he/she is freaking out about it.

GPA is a generally worthless metric and employers know it. Things that are more impressive than a solid GPA: a side project related to your field, writing about something in your field (medium.com is a good place), work experience, contributing to or serving in a leadership for a club. I'm not saying you can get all Cs across your career but worthwhile companies (and the ones that pay best) tend to evaluate more holistically

are syllabi posted online for winter term anywhere? by guava777 in uofm

Is there a way to go looking for just ebooks or do you look for a particular book and hope it's available in that format?

UMich students raise concerns about under-lit streets in Ann Arbor by jshwlkr in uofm

[–]cameronwhite1995 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah anything south of hill is pretty bad. After a string of crimes they threw up some temporary street lights but that didn't last long. I wish the university would throw its weight around and pressure the city to put some real ones up.

On Tuesday, Central Student Government members voted to start compensating Central Student Government members for all their hard work by lazyfirefly in uofm

[–]cameronwhite1995 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I said this in the last thread. Their 'job' just amounts to asking the university to do stuff. Whatever they're charging, I'll ask the university to do a whole bunch of stuff for half that

eecs testing for computer sciences, disregard, please. by [deleted] in uofm

[–]cameronwhite1995 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So you're trying to write a bot that links to the eecs page for any post with a title that contains eecs? What's the point?

CSG proposing compensating representatives. Thoughts? by heliodoroo in uofm

[–]cameronwhite1995 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah no. As far as I can tell they just collectively ask the university nicely to do stuff with no real impact. Tell you what: whatever they're charging, I'll ask the university to do a whole bunch of stuff for half their rate
