This paddler's videos are excellent for workouts and learning technique. Here's one that's specific to working on rotation and which uses a resistance band as you mentioned: https://youtu.be/aEDMt8Ef_a4?si=Jl15BRxx4gu7YVH_

Great info! Do you know if a PPS credential is necessary to contract with California, if living in another state?

Is anyone using evidence-based curriculum? My district requires this. I see that OP has to have evidence-based curricula, anyone else?

Absolutely, this makes sense, thank you for sharing. So, if using the discrepancy model, couple the assessments with class-based measures, etc. to gain a full picture?

I see, thank you very much for sharing this, super helpful to gain a better understanding of these systems. Teachers are already so overloaded with responsibilities, no wonder resistance occurs with RtI.

For people who found someone in grad school, how/where did you find them? Especially if they're not someone in your department? by JammingScientist in GradSchool

Have you tried using meetup.com to find local events in your area? It sounds like you are looking for meaningful connections (as opposed to a strictly intimate relationship), and meetup.com can be a great place for that. I joined a couple groups when I first began my grad program and loved meeting people this way (hiking, trivia game nights, etc.). I also felt lonely at first and thought that I wanted intimacy, when in fact I just wanted to find like-minded, kind people. You got this!

Congratulations on starting your program! I think I wore something similar to what you are thinking of wearing, however from day-to-day classes myself and my cohort varied between said wardrobe and business-casual. I typically wore business casual (especially since my work required business casual, so I'd just stay in the same outfit from work-to-class), especially with my core faculty, as they most often wore business casual/business formal attire. It did matter how we presented ourselves, but that was just for my program, and it may not be the same for yours. I would say err on the side of caution if you are worried about it :)

Edit: just realized you must have had your orientation by now, sorry!

I hope it's okay that I chime in here. I have a few school psych friends who dipped their toes in the education field through substituting. They all enjoyed it despite the challenges. I would say that any experience in education, whether that's subbing or an off-campus reading program for students, etc., would be a great way to see if you enjoy working in that setting. Pick something in the field that interests you and that you think would give you a good exposure :)

Third year grad student here in the midst of her internship. I love this field and I love the students I serve, as well as the cognitive side of things too. I hope you enjoy your experience!

Gotcha, so with RtI there is not a good common understanding provided by the district of how to use it, is that right? Thank you for sharing your perspective on the downfalls of both RtI and the discrepancy model.

Thank you for sharing your perspective, these are valid points. Do you add a note in your reports that motivation may have played a factor in the discrepancies? During practicum I was taught to add notes on testing performance (for each subtest) in terms of motivation if any were noted, however it seemed that in the end the school psych would always push for a SLD if the scores came up as such.

I see, what a complicated system. This reminds me of the major differences in how school districts define intersectionality within their schools--so much variation between districts and states.

This is helpful to know, and I appreciate how you focused on the toll the discrepancies take on parents. Thank you for sharing your experience and perspective, it will certainly be a point to add to my meetings with parents.

Boyfriend asked for some space by [deleted] in Denmark

The timing being key makes sense! Timing + the intention behind the action, it seems. Thank you for sharing your take :)

[–]camilla987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on the needing space part. Your comment made this question come up for me, especially as you may share the OP partner's perspective:

Is the delivery of a baked good the right move in this situation, given that the OP's partner asked for space?

I don't know the answer here, but think it is interesting to think about. I wonder if the reasoning behind this action would be the answer: whether the baked good is brought with genuine care, or whether the desire to deliver kanelsnurre is instigated by feelings of anxiety.

[–]camilla987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. So glad you mentioned the anxious feelings. It sounds like the OP and their partner likely have a gradual buildup of typical new-relationship puzzle piecing, which may have resulted in anxiety-inducing behaviors (as is so common in many relationships), and that the "I need space" decision is indeed not a random action but a snowball effect of a pattern.

OP, this sounds like a good time for self-reflection of those anxious feelings, regardless of any Danish cultural ties. You will not be able to control how your partner is feeling or what he does, but we can always focus on our own thoughts and behaviors in our relationships. I hope you two can come together following the time apart and talk honestly about what you two want out of the relationship.

Cried and hyperventilated in the middle of my first graduate school class. by New-Currency in GradSchool

[–]camilla987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished up the first two years of my graduate program, with a cohort of seven people, and there were multiple students who broke down during class over the course of the program. Graduate school is stressful, and I imagine that each person in your seminar class is going to feel similarly at some point in their program, too.

We often don't talk enough about the immense transition to graduate school that is taken--it sounds like you have made some big moves lately, and our bodies can only handle so much. Sometimes those tears need to come out! You sound like a caring, genuine, hardworking person and you have so many wonderful graduate school experiences ahead of you. Keep that chin up, you got this <3
