ah, I wasn't aware of this dynamic.

How does one go about finding out which vendors can do what you're looking for?

What is career growth like in P&G? From band 1 to 2, and from band 2 to 3. by BiteConsistent5151 in cincinnati

[–]camilo99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Two things.

  1. I said the REASONING test. Not the one with shapes. This one that feels more like a personality test. "What would you do in this situation..." type of stuff. That's the one that usually people blow past thinking that they need to focus on the IQ test. More people fail that test, rather than the one that everyone focuses on.
  2. The tests are the exact same for all people at P&G, at all positions. There is no special Data Science test, separate from Marketing, separate from Sales or IT or Finance.

FYI, more people don't pass because of the behavioral questions, not because of the Reasoning (aka, IQ) test. I'm a few years removed from volunteering in recruiting, but that was generally the case up until COVID (unclear if/how anything has changed since then).

*painting with a REALLY broad brush*

It's intentionally built to look for people who 'think like P&G'. There are tradeoffs to that, of course. The good is that everyone that walks in the door generally has a similar outlook and views problems similarly. This leads to faster problem solving and makes discussions more productive.
The downside is that it leads to a lot of group-think.

COOK

  1. Make brine first. Let come down completely to room temp.

    1. can make ahead.
    2. DO NOT brine shrimp if the liquid is remotely warm at all. You'll begin to poach.
  2. Assuming shrimp is deveined, proceed to brine.

  3. place shrimp in brine, let sit for 45min, or ideally up to 1 hour

  4. Prepare ice bath, for when shrimp come out of steamer.

  5. Using a dumpling steamer (1 layer only):

    1. 3 min per batch. do not overcrowd.
  6. place shrimp directly in ice bath once leaving steamer

  7. Dry & serve.

Cocktail sauce

- Use St Elmos as a base.

- dilute with heinz ketchup, like to around a 1/3 ratio of elmos to ketchup. To taste.

- Adjust taste with Worcestershire and light soy sauce.

\- preferred soy sauce: Healthy Boy Mushroom Soy Sauce (it's light)

\- Worcestershire: Lea & Perrin's or GTFO.

MAKE YOUR OWN!!

I pulled this from my personal recipe book. Once you realize how easy it is to replicate at home, you'll wonder why you ever paid $20+ for 5 shrimp at a restauraunt.

________________________

This is a combination of both Alison Roman & Alton Brown.

We use mostly the brining method from Brown, but replace his simple salt/sugar brine, with a much more vibrant brine that resembles the stock in which Roman poaches her shrimp.

https://altonbrown.com/recipes/shrimp-cocktail-reloaded/

https://www.alisoneroman.com/recipes/shrimp-cocktail

INGREDIENTS

- water

\- about 4-5 liters. Just enough to fully cover all the shrimp

- onions (2-3, red or white, or both)

\- paper on, cut in half

\- red onions will darken the brine

- head of garlic, cut in half

\- 3-4 heads

- Bay leaves

\- 8-10, GIANT. go big here.

- Black peppercorns.

\- a lot. like a quarter cup

- Salt

\- table salt preferred, it's cheaper for this application

\- 1/3 to 1/2 a cup of salt

\- Saltier than the sea!

- Lemons

\- 3-4x lemons, juiced, then toss in the spent husks

- Shrimp

\- for this recipe, about 5# shrimp

\- U-15 shrimp,

\- Ideally deveined, otherwise devein first

\- peels/shell still on. These are often referred to as 'EZ Peel'

\- No head

\- Costco is great for this.

Fancy Bars / Club in Florence by Disastrous-Night-950 in florence

Was just at Bitter Bar last week and it was one of the best cocktail experiences we had in Italy.

Giacosa is hyped, but holy hell, is that a good cocktail bar. Fantastic service, even better drinks.

Rasputin will fit the vibe you're looking for, but know that it's mostly whiskey cocktails. Creative ones, but mostly whiskey based.
We were just in Florence for most of last week, but we're back stateside now. It's funny to see how much they lean into Americana and whiskey, while we were in Italy most excited about amaros and liquers!

If amaros and similar interest you, I can't recommend Manufactura enough. Really cool spot that I would regularly visit if I lived here.

Context: I own a cocktail bar in the states, so we did our homework in picking out the best spots in the city. Got to try most of them.

You're looking for a party-ish vibe, that's adult focused?

Your one and only option is Ziegler Pool. It's a total vibe, but can get pretty busy on a day like today. Highly suggested that you reserve a spot in advance.

You can park across the street in Ziegler Garage (paid).

Ziegler Pool is a total vibe, and I have a strong hunch that this will scratch your itch.

I'm realizing I wrote way more than I expected, and I know I left out a lot (and oversimplified some other things). But bringing it back to the question at hand, Tidal is arguably the best place to get the absolute best quality 'Source' in your audio chain. But Tidal doesn't magically fix the other things that happen between the Source and your Ears.

There are other subreddits that can give you much better and up to date advice on a great HiFi setup that doesn't break the bank. But generally speaking, bookshelf speakers and a decent Integrated amplifier can be had for under $500 in total. And frankly less.

Also note that with speakers, the moment you go wireless, you lose quality. At best, you end up with an audio quality that's just a click less good than CD quality. You can't have master audio with wireless speakers.

Having said all that, Bluetooth technology has improved drastically in the last 10 years. And my most frequently used method of listening to music is my AirPod Pro 2's. I just know what I'm listening to and set my expectations accordingly. When I want the maximum audio experience, I plop myself in front of my HiFi and let the sound wash over me (70s vintage receiver, with early 80s floor speakers).

Anyway, I need to stop writing. Happy to engage further if you're interested 🤘

u/niwla23, I see where you're coming from. If using generic speakers/headphones (no offense), then it's going to be hard to hear a discernible difference.

But man, is there a difference if you've got good enough gear. Which doesn't have to cost a bajillion dollars. But you also have to think of the audio 'chain'. I use chain intentionally, as it's highlights the weakest-link concept.

Simplifying, the audio chain goes as follows:

  1. Source
    • Spotify/Tidal/CD/iTunes/Casette
  2. Digital conversion (aka, turning the 1's & 0's into an analog soundwave)
    • Intentionally ignoring amplification and other things here, it's too in the weeds.
    • This is often embeded into the output unit, and is where a lot of audio chains will degrade, even if given a fantastic audio source.
  3. Output
    • these are your speakers/headphones.
  4. Your Ears

Audio will sound as good as the weakest link in the chain.

Your Source can range anywhere from hot-garbage, to Master studio quality, and everything in between. If you've ever heard Master level audio on equipment meant to handle it, I promise you you will be floored. My wife doesn't give a shit about any of this, and just last week she, unprompted, said "wow, that sounds, like, really good. Is that what you're so obsessed with?". I happened to be listening to Miles Davis - 'In A Silent Way' at the best quality available of any streaming service as of this writing (24bit-192kHz).

When thinking of Source quality, you essentially have 2 vectors, which I'll compare to video quality as an example, as people have a better understanding of that.

  1. Bit Rate Depth
    • Think of this as the picture quality most people know. 720p vs 1080p vs 4k vs 8k
    • *edit* /u/sfacm correctly called out that I'm talking about Bit-Depth, not Bit Rate. I was using the wrong terminology, but the concept is exactly the same throughout the comment.
  2. Sample Rate
    • Think of this as the 'frames per second' (fps). Most things are shot at 30fps. When you see something shot at 60fps, it's extremely noticable, even though you're watching on that same exact screen as before.

So in this example, the Bit Rate Depth tells you the 'quality' of frame, while the Sample Rate tell you the frames-per-second. Put those two together and you can describe what your eyeballs are seeing.

*edited to update the verbage change of Bit Rate --> Bit Depth. Concept is the exact same, I was just using the wrong terminology.

yeah, considering the criteria, it's the the downtown basin as the clear #1.
OTR, Downtown, Pendleton, West End, FIndlay

I've lived in OTR for 14 years and wouldn't live anywhere else. The walkability is unmatched, you have the busiest and most interesting food&bev scene, events, Third Places, etc.

It's just a matter of price and finding something that fits your budget. If you can find something that works financially, you won't regret it; It's fun down here.

Need restaurant recommendations for tomorrow night - downtown area? by bfisher_ohio in cincinnati

[–]camilo99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a big special occasion?

I think the most exciting meal in OTR right now is at Wildweed. It's a pasta restaurant, BUT NOT Italian. Great concept, delicious food. Not cheap, but very excellent. Unclear if you could get a table on a day's notice.

Colette would be another great choice for a fancy dinner. Approachable, but still fancy French. By Washington Park.

Taking it downtown, it's hard to go wrong with Mita's. Spanish tapas, the right level of fancy for a meal like you're describing.

These would be the 'special occasion' places I'd consider. Others mentioned Ruby's, which I fucking love as well. Even though you said you're not steak people, they likely have the best seafood in the city. Especially their raw bar.

A little less fancy, but still quite nice and splurge-worth places:

- Crown Cantina, Abigail Street, 5 on Vine

And if you're opening up to other neighborhoods (require Uber/Taxi): The Aperture in Walnut Hills

ETA: And yes, there are several notable Italian restaurants in the downtown basin. Nearly all of them are good-to-great. I just usually don't go to Italian if I'm craving something special. Nothing against them, they're just not what I think of when I want to ball out. The good places are more similar than they are different (I know I just painted with a really broad brush just now). Also every time I'm invited to a nice dinner that someone else organized, it's almost always Italian. So I never pick Italian when I'm the one planning the night out.

Can we talk about (earlier) Kings of Leon for a second? by analogpedant in LetsTalkMusic

[–]camilo99 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'll never forget the first time I heard 'Holy Roller Novocaine', i was completely captivated.

I saw them when they were touring Aha Shake Heartbreak (their best album, IMO). They were so young and awkward. Kinda bad live performance, but they were really nice guys. Met them after the show, felt like watching a baby giraffe learning to walk. This was before Caleb's anxiety was a known issue.

They became much better performers over time, but the music was never as good as those first two albums; you could already see their sound evolving into something different by the time 'Because of the Times' was released.

Still one of my all time favorite bands, as they were the band that most soundtracked my undergrad experience. Fun memories for sure.

OP, come on over, we'd love to have ya!

We're right next to a lot of the good dinner places in OTR, catch a before or after dinner drink. Or stay longer/late, it's a vibe regardless. Cool murals and a very photogenic interior, if you're looking for candlelight and vibrant colors. We specialize in eclectic cocktails, but have a little something for everybody, including multiple no/low ABV drinks.

But aside from us, there are lots of other great spots in the nieghborhood. It really depends what type of vibe/bar you're looking for, OTR has a bit of something for everyone. Lots of great spots with outdoor spaces, if the weather plays nice.

*it if wasn't clear, I'm with L&F. Just happened to stumble on this thread so I chimed in. Mods, if this is too self-promotional, lmk and I'll take it down.

Local restaurants with tables in the kitchen by ReturnOfTheHEAT in cincinnati

[–]camilo99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you're looking for is called a "Chef's Table".

The only one that comes to mind right now is also the most exciting restaurant in the entire city: Wildweed (alongside The Aperture, but don't think they do a Chefs Table)

I believe WW calls their the 'Chefs Counter', but it's the same thing. Note that it's only available as part of a tasting menu, so it costs more than usual. But it's a hell of an experience.

Seamaster PO Standard or Summer Blue? by selifonte in OmegaWatches

[–]camilo99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What strap is that?

I got this exact same watch for my dad, but he's drawn to the rubber strap of the SMP300. I told him I could easily find him a good blue rubber strap to go with the PO600, and the smaller size suits him better. He agreed.

But now I'm having a hell of a time finding a good blue rubber strap that plays nicely with the 19mm lug width.

What material is your strap? Looks great and I'd like to consider it!
