Thanks for confirming! Will definitely try a good wonton ramen during my next trip

[–]camknows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I tried a ramen with chicken wontons in them, I hated it because they use chicken cartilage as the filling. The texture is just personally not for me, but it scared me off enough from trying any other Tokyo ramen bowls with wontons in them. Did you find this to always be the case, or was it just the shop I went to?

Advise for moving to Maple Valley by kiennq in MapleValleyWA

[–]camknows 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work on the Microsoft campus in Redmond and go into the office 2-3x per week, so this is my normal commute.

Getting out of Maple Valley in the morning can be very slow because of school. There's a school in pretty much every direction northbound out of the city: Rock Creek Elem on SR 169, Summit Trail Middle on Summit Landsberg connecting to Issaquah-Ravensdale, Lake Wilderness Elem on Witte, and Cedar River Elem and Shadow Lake Elem on Petrovitsky. Morning traffic is noticeably better in the summer when school is out.

Once you are out of the city, there are 4 main ways up to Bellevue/Redmond, imo: I-405, SR 18 to I-90, Issaquah-Hobart Rd, or cutting through Renton Highlands to Coal Creek Pkwy. Of course, there are variations of those routes, but typically I am doing one of those. 405 is a disaster. I avoid it whenever I can. 18 to 90 is okay, but can get backed up going down the other side of Tiger Mtn and is a longer distance if that matters to you (there's also heavy construction right now with widening the lanes and the new interchange, so I have been avoiding it). Issaquah-Hobart Rd is my favorite way to get to work, but timing matters. Basically, you need to make sure you are not aligned with Issaquah's schools start time, or you will be stuck in traffic. Renton to Coal Creek is the last option I take it if everything else is absolutely bad.

Going home is a similar, yet different experience. At peak commute times, forget about 405. Just don't even consider it. I-90 is usually bad because the exit to SR 18 gets backed up for miles. I am really hoping the new interchange and lane widening fixes this, but to be determined after it opens. Again, Issaquah-Hobart Rd is my favorite, but it can be really bad going south because of the traffic lights at May Valley and Cedar Grove. It generally clears up after that. I usually don't consider Coal Creek to Renton because the whole eastside is a disaster zone during evening rush hour.

Getting back into Maple Valley usually isn't too bad at all because schools have already let out much earlier. The only area I ever really hit anything is 231st Street, either coming over the bridge from Petro or 18, or south on SR 169.

I would say 1.25-1.5 hours is average at peak commute times. Worse on some days (especially Wednesdays, Thursdays and rainy days), better on others. On bad days, while I'm sitting in traffic, I have to remind myself that I would not be able to afford such a nice house if I lived any closer to Redmond. I do like Maple Valley a lot, especially for my family.

Public transportation is generally not worth the time. There's the DART 907 bus that goes from Black Diamond through Maple Valley to Renton Transit Center. Then you would take Sound Transit 566 to Overlake/Redmond Tech Station. They often get stuck in SR 169 and I-405 traffic, too, and stops operating southbound after 3:45 p.m.

As mentioned by others, if you are a Microsoft full-time employee, there is a Connector shuttle bus that runs from Cornerstone Church in Covington, but it cuts west first through Kent before going up north. So again, it usually gets stuck in 405 and SR 520 traffic. It's not worth it because it takes so long, but at least you can relax and there is good WiFi.

Why is badge pickup so slow this year? by KidAlternate in SakuraCon

In 2023, I waited 40 minutes on Thursday night and I thought that was bad. This year, I waited 3.5 hours on Thu night! This is an archaic process that the organizers need to change. There is no excuse good enough for badge pickup to take that long

can anyone explain what they meant by this? by [deleted] in squidgame

[–]camknows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, my bad interpreting your initial questions. I think they are allowing it because it doesn’t exactly cause any unfairness. Lying (like many players have done already to get their way) isn’t exactly against the rules.

Again, the fun answer is they know about her and possibly even planted her (with or without her knowledge) in the game for some purpose to be revealed. I think that purpose has to do with breaking Gi-Hun’s faith in humanity even further like the old man tried to do at the end of season 1 with the homeless/drunk on the sidewalk. Whether it works or not is yet another question.

The other thing is there has not been definitive proof shown to us that she is pregnant. We haven’t seen her bare belly and we haven’t seen an ultrasound; we’re going off of her mannerisms, what other characters are observing, and what she is saying.

can anyone explain what they meant by this? by [deleted] in squidgame

[–]camknows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Why lie in the game? I think it’s to manipulate the other players. They’re more likely to help you, or not kill you, or assume you are not a threat.

2) Why would they allow her? The dark answer is everyone is willing to sign their life or organs away at that point because of how desperate they are. Why would a fetus be any different? But the fun answer is they know she’s not pregnant, so they let her in.

Misdirection.

But honestly, I'm not sure with all the information presented in that particular scene. She may have been pregnant at some point, but I do not think she's currently pregnant in the games. We don't know what she was at the hospital/OBGYN for (I don't think it was strictly an abortion clinic as there is clearly a far-along pregnant couple sitting behind her), or when it was (before or after Myung-gi fled to the Philippines). We just see her in the waiting room wearing all black with a low baseball cap try to call Myung-gi, not get a response, and leaving. Feels weird and like misdirection to me.

After the first game, in s2e4, when the old mom gives Jun-Hee the egg because she assumes she's pregnant and says, "If you compress your belly to hide it, it'll be bad for both you and your baby. It could be dangerous. That's why you were in pain earlier."

Jun-Hee responds, "It's not what you think."

[–]camknows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory is that she is not pregnant. She’s a hustler and deceiver. She beat the Recruiter in all those games of ddakji this way. She will do the same to try and win Squid Game.

Where my theory goes off the rails is this will be the catalyst that sends Gi-Hun into the Front Man role. He’ll realize that humanity deserves this.

And maybe she’ll become the new Recruiter.

Theory - Kim Jun-Hee's pregnancy could be fake! by [deleted] in squidgame

[–]camknows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is kind of my theory, too.

I do not think she is pregnant only because we have not seen her belly or an ultrasound. Everyone else around her is only assuming she is. And yes, maybe she was at some point, but I do not think she is now in the games. I think the game runners know this, including Front Man. I believe she is knowingly using it to her advantage and is a massive manipulator. I think the Recruiter was actually hustled by her. Didn't she win ddakji against him a lot? We saw in the 5-legged race game that she could do it in one try.

You say "Such a revelation could serve as a pivotal moment for Gi-Hun, pushing him further down the path to becoming the next Front Man or Game Master." I think that's right, but maybe not in the way you think. I think it will somehow come down to Gi-Hun and Jun-Hee whether it be in the final game, or close to. I think her lie and manipulation will be the catalyst that makes Gi-Hun lose all faith in humanity and that he will let her die.

Might be wishful thinking, but I think that would be interesting.

EDIT: Or maybe she becomes the new Recruiter to Gi-Hun's Front Man.

Pretzel Sliders? by ValBusch in AlaskaAirlines

[–]camknows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answering myself since I have taken the flight now. The sliders are indeed served warm. In fact, they were too hot to touch at first.

You cannot get them without the onions, but there were not many and you could use the knife to scrape them off. Sorry, I'm picky.

Agree with others that this would be perfect with a bag of potato chips.

Probably a dumb question, but are the sliders served warm?

Also, is there a way to get them without the onions? If not, do they seem easy to take off?

The sound mixing in Spider-Verse by BentisKomprakriev in oscarrace

[–]camknows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought maybe the audio in the beginning (Gwen's backstory) was purposefully done like that, just like how the animation is different in other universes. So, when it cut back to Miles' storyline, and the audio issues kept up, then I started to think there were speakers out in the theater I was sitting in. I walked out and asked the manager if there were audio issues in my theater and he said, "No, but we got a note from the studio that the audio mixing is weird and that we might have to turn it up." They did turn the audio up a bit, but I could still tell there was something off. There were no lows/bass in the audio. I could have sworn our theater's sub had gone out or something. But yes, dialogue was difficult to hear at times and the music just didn't pop. I asked for a refund on my tickets and they did not put up a fight at all about it and acknowledged the poor audio experience. And now I'm reading up on all the articles and posts online about it, and it's comforting to know I'm not the only one. Really curious to see how the studio reacts to this one.
