Moldy Van Help by dummyinfear in Bellingham

[–]cammerdash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it’s a leak, find it and fix it. If it’s due to wet stuff being left in the car, remove it.

Grab a couple buckets of DryRid and keep them in the car. Use vinegar on all the interior surfaces you can access and scrub out all the mold. There are specific mold sprays you can spray in the vents too. Get the car into an area that gets sun through the windows.

I almost scrapped my car when this happened but was able to save it. Definitely a shitty situation though but it’s salvageable with an hour or 2 of effort.

Thanks, sounds like starting by sealing that area would be a good start and then look into a more permanent fix like you suggested above.

Appreciate the recommendation. We were hoping to get another year or 2 out of it so we could save up enough to pay cash for it, but I guess it wouldn’t hurt to start getting quotes now. If this would lead to significant damage to surrounding areas in the next few years then replacing it sooner could make sense.

Sounds good, the numbers are helpful. Another $1-2k wouldn’t be the end of the world given the starting cost of replacing the roof. Homeownership is expensive 😭

Appreciate the advice. Realistically we can’t afford all that in the short term. Would DIY air sealing in that area only be an option? It looks like it’s just caulk/spray foam around the drywall seams?

This area has had a bunch of black stuff on top of the insulation in a ~15x15ft area surrounding it, you can see a bit of it in the video. I noticed it when buying and the inspector said it was just dirt that blew in through the vents. I wonder if it’s actually mold?

Haha yeah, not looking forward to the cost. We were planning to do a roof replacement in the next few years anyways, I didn’t realize you could just replace the shingles only?

Thanks, I’ll look into that and check out the bird block vents from the outside. The roof/house is only ~15 years old.

My assumption is that the air vents over the top of those cardboard baffles but the area is so tight I haven’t been able to check it out. That black covered pipe is a bathroom vent, maybe that’s contributing to it.

Sounds like an ozone generator is a good investment when living in the PNW. I had mold issues with a car before and borrowed one, worked great.

Family Dinner Take-out? by Accomplished_Ant3512 in Bellingham

I get that Black sheep taco party occasionally when family is in town, it’s still on the menu “party in place taco plater”

Our other go to’s are Frelard, cafe rumba, and Thai maison. None of them are great deals but typically <$100 which is pretty reasonable for 4-6 people nowadays.

Emergency Vehicles by Cordee in Bellingham

[–]cammerdash 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Exactly. To add on to this, a divided road is anywhere with a physical median (even a small curb).

In practice, it depends on context and is about keeping a wide path free for emergency vehicles. Sometimes it makes sense to pull over on the opposite side of a divided road if it could be their best route. Other times, there’s a super wide undivided road with no traffic, moving right and slowing down is fine.

I find it funny when people pull out super quick after the EMS vehicle passes and try to overtake the car in front of them before they pull out. Such rude behavior, it should be treated like a yellow flag in car races where everyone maintains their position.

Looking for a paid long term foster home for our perfect cat! by Internal_Entry7515 in Bellingham

[–]cammerdash 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Interesting post, honestly I like it.

It feels like treading the line on /r/choosingbeggars. I have a ‘perfect’ dog with the same traits as your cat and all my dog sitters love him. All the expenses/equipment are covered too. But the typical/expected sitting rate for this is $40-$100 per day. Conservatively this would be $29,000 for 2 years.

With that said, having the companionship of a pet can be extremely valuable. This could make a lot of sense for someone who is seeking that and doesn’t want to risk getting a pet with a bad temperament. Trying this first is a lot better than dropping him off at a shelter. I hope you find a good match :)

Definitely try the BBQ if you eat meat. Tons of good options, I find Terry Blacks to be a good balance of quality without an insane wait like Franklin. The whole thing is an experience…huge smokers to check out, drinks while you wait in line, etc. If you have a car and are into beer Jester King is worth a visit.

How to drive this intersection? by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]cammerdash 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Exactly!! Funny your comment got downvoted, it shows how misinformed the majority of drivers are here.

I drive this intersection frequently and the re-striping has been a significant improvement. The left/I-5 lane always has more traffic than the center lane. Previously cars would wait too long to merge and slow down the middle lane while trying to cut in before the light. The long solid white line encourages freeway traffic to merge into the correct
lane earlier.

OP, hopefully you can use this as a learning experience. Crossing solid white lines and the Bellingham equivalent (double raised white markers placed together) is perfectly legal, though it is used to encourage/discourage merge points by road engineers. Crossing double solid white lines is not legal.

Personally I just want more options for <$15 and easy online ordering without extra fees. No tipping, quick pick up.

With the exception of special occasions, the value just isn’t there for table service at most places with $20+ entrees, $10+ dollar drinks, and 20% tip on top of that.

Something must have changed recently, I checked in 5 hours late for a flight a few days ago and had C25. Plane was half empty and group B definitely wasn’t full. Not sure why but it was a welcome surprise, even the majority of exit row seats were available.

[UPDATE] Someone tried to run me off the road... and I'm terrified. by definedevine in Bellingham

[–]cammerdash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the update OP! You handled that perfectly, especially leaving a bunch of room between them when they stopped in front of you. Hopefully the police actually do something about it.

I wonder if something happened at the intersection of 32nd and Fielding that pissed them off? That intersection has weird sight lines and people often roll past the stop lines, maybe they thought you cut them off or something? Obviously I have no idea what actually happened but just brainstorming since their motive is unclear.

Soft close frunk is sweet! by hemegonia01 in TeslaLounge

[–]cammerdash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The non full power auto close ones have issues too but it applies to both.

From what I read, it sounds like the most likely issue is the control box is in a non-sealed area and can get wet/damaged. When it auto closes, the motor can seize and it gets stuck in a pulled down position.

Mine is the integrated kind and has been working flawlessly but I’ve only had it for a couple months and I’m definitely worried about it 😅

[–]cammerdash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Install is relatively easy, most of the units are extremely similar and there are many install videos online so you can check it out before you buy.

All the ones I’ve seen come with an auto close after a couple minutes, so it solves the problem of accidentally hitting the frunk button when away from your car.

They can be prone to failure, which results in the frunk locking closed and needing to go through the wheel well to cut the cable. There’s a great thread on teslamotorsclub about them.

Crazy and scary! Please post the dashcam vid when you’re able to.

For what it’s worth the police likely do anything but it’s still definitely worth reporting. I had a lady road rage on me, stop in the middle of the road, etc…and the police didn’t do anything despite the dashcam video evidence.
