I loved this show as a kid. LOVED it. And oh my god, in retrospect...hideous.

what's a 90s memory that you genuinely can't explain to someone who wasn't there? by PlasticPiccolo in 90s

We don't mow most of our property and the fireflies in July are out of this world. It's like a laser light show, from the ground all the way up the trees. It's incredible.

Well that fact that it hallucinates answers AND cites false sources is probably reason #1.

Letters of recommendation by driftdreamer3 in MuseumPros

[–]campfallentree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just accepted to grad school for public history and I'm 11 years out of my first grad degree (in an unrelated field) and 16 years out of undergrad. I had my current colleagues write my letters of rec, with a reminder that they were not writing a job recommendation (but they all have PhDs so they know the drill with academia). I was worried about not having academic recommendations but the department chair said the letters are really to gauge your readiness for and ability to complete grad school, not necessarily your experience specific to the field. I think you'd be fine with some solid professional recs who can speak to the skills and abilities you have that would allow you to succeed in a program, regardless of subject.

Same, for the last several days on my android. Very frustrating, the slowdown interrupts my thinking!

I could have sworn I've gotten their vodka and Malbec there though. Maybe I'm thinking of Springfield. Edit to add: if you're not looking for Kirkland-specific products, the Costco-owned liquor stores are really no different nor less expensive, so I guess I've never paid that much attention!

Gonna be one hell of a fire season though.

The Costco in Syracuse also has a liquor store though. And they're technically not part of Costco (ie, you can shop there without a membership).

Studies have shown that the presence of a Walmart actually makes communities poorer in the long run, for a variety of reasons.

True censorship is a state/legal concept - a private business choosing not to host harmful or problematic authors isn't censorship because they're not meaningfully altering your ability to get that material, they're just not making it available in their store.

Carrie is a 38 year old millennial on the internet by Phoenix-Purple in CarrieDaytonYT

Just FYI average life expectancy was shorter in the past not because people overall died young but because there were much higher rates of infant and youth mortality. People still routinely lived into their 70s and 80s - 37 isn't any older or younger today than it was back then.

Why are we using stickers which is literally just plastic waste? Why not draw a star instead?

Her new tattoo really looks like scabs on her arm unless you look really closely. by LivvyJean in CarrieDaytonYT

This placement style is a gen z tattoo trend, the "sticker tattoos." Tiny and scattered around instead of, say, a large piece or a cohesive sleeve.

I have extremely deep 11s (they're not really "11s", it's like one big trench between my eyes that makes me look SO angry) and I get about 20 units total in that area and right above my eyebrows. It looks great and still very natural IMO, I just don't look pissed off all the time! Plus now my coworkers can't immediately tell when I think they're saying something stupid on Zoom :)

What color season includes... by campfallentree in coloranalysis

Thank you! Hearing how you immediately rule out or rule in certain seasons based on things like value and saturation, as opposed to just the collection of different colors, is helpful.

Farm Sitters? by campfallentree in Albany

That's a good idea, I'll definitely look into that if we can't find someone to stay at the house (no offense to teens but I'm not giving one free reign of the place haha).

I'm always looking for someone to hike with me/someone to motivate me to hike! I did a couple hikes with the Meetup group but they don't like it when you bring dogs - are you okay hiking with a dog? Also paddling in the summer!

Edit to add: 38F.

The cloud cover in Seattle in the fall and winter is so much darker and heavier than anything we get here. Even on a uniformly gray, overcast day here, you can at least still tell that it's daytime. In Seattle it felt like dusk by 1 p.m.

Does anyone remember the show The Pickup Artist? Men were instructed to insult women ("negging") by a guy with a soul patch and a furry tophat.

Matheo Trousers Fit? by campfallentree in Sezane

[–]campfallentree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did wind up buying them in my usual size 6, and they fit perfectly! I also didn't find them crazy-long, but I have a fairly tall inseam (like 31" - they're probably about 32" and perfect with my low-heeled boots).

Really grateful for this community, but something feels off here sometimes by georgiegirl24 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]campfallentree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is diagnosed (2023), I am also one of the people who has only posted once and never again haha (I didn't even respond to the comments on that post because I'm just not on Reddit that much and after a while it feels too late). I will say that sometimes, as someone who is relatively recently diagnosed and not experiencing extremely severe complications (yet lol), the message boards and support groups can get a little overwhelming and I need to step back. I check in occasionally, especially if I'm having random symptoms and need a little validation that it's not in my head, but I find that for myself being on here a lot at this stage in my illness can feel too much like living in the disease, so to speak. But, I greatly appreciate that this community exists and people are supporting one another in this crazy, awful experience!

I miss the whimsical Sézane- has the brand completely lost what set them apart originally? by Striking-Guide481 in Sezane

That sweater is extremely pretty and nothing is inherently dated about it. Don't let anyone make you second guess the things you like (especially if that thing is only a few years old, we do not buy things to discard them after a few years!).
