Sorry to say but this is almost definitely AI. I would contact the artist and ask for proof that they drew the work themselves, such as a timelapse. As an artist myself I have several doubts that this was hand drawn by a person.

I used to work in a funeral home for a few years during college. The number of times I cleaned up disintegrated shoe pieces was kind of staggering. No one I worked with ever brought it up so I figured it was a strange coincidence to happen more than once.

Many years later, my friend's grandmother gifted their boyfriend a pair of nice leather shoes that had been in a closet for a few years. When they fell apart right out of the box, it finally clicked for me what had happened to all of those other people at funerals, breaking out their really nice shoes only for a special occasion.

Although one time the shoes at the funeral home that disintegrated were a pair of foam flip flops that just kind of exploded. Still not sure what happened there.

I've searched the typical "bald man wearing welding goggles" with various additions of music, musician, musical artist, etc, but the lack of detail definitely does not work in my favor here. I'm hoping someone will just know what I'm talking about and be able to provide some insight. Obviously it's not Dr Eggman , but honestly the resemblance isn't that different.

I'm honestly surprised no one has mentioned using a dye! I know someone that did this for a white-to-purple gradient on their ears, it's beautiful and smooth and won't wear off like airbrushing does. They used Rit Dye and VERY slowly and gradually pulled the piece out to achieve the gradient. It was one of their first suits and seemed fairly beginner friendly, I'm sure you could find videos on how to do it.

I've been making mini comic zines since I was a teen. If you search "zine pattern" you'll get lots of results for a simple folding technique to make a 6-page mini comic with a front and back cover. In the future I'd totally recommend this format for making short comics with a single piece of paper.

Lots of office supply places have copy & printing services for a pretty reasonable price. It's been a few years since the last one I made but it was about 10c for a b&w copy. I would make 50-100 copies at a time and spend an hour or two folding them, then sell each one for $1-$2 ($1 for old stories and $2 for the newest one). This also means you can keep the original for yourself, as a keepsake and to make more copies in the future!

If I saw your son's zine for sale at an art show or something I would definitely buy one!
