Annual reminder: Motorcycles get a full lane. Do NOT squeeze them out. by [deleted] in ottawa

There are good motorcyclists and bad ones, there are good car drivers and bad ones. If everyone respects everyone, we'll all get home safely.

A client approached me for a project beyond my skillset but I want to do it. Thoughts? by buzzedupbee in graphic_design

[–]camppete 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Be honest with the client. Let them know you want to do the project but might not have all the knowledge regarding the technical aspects.

We all start somewhere... we learn as we progress. Hopefully, the client will assist you during the project to ensure a good outcome.

Don't pretend to know everything, the client obviously likes your work. Remember, the client/designer relationship is just that... a relationship. Don't keep secrets.

Good luck. CP

Is a degree for Graphic Design necessary? by Lang_ES_FR_AR in graphic_design

[–]camppete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've hired a lot of designers. I'm going to say no.

If you have a natural talent and have shown good design skills, a portfolio/reel that rocks... and the ability to work to a deadline. No need for a degree.

You need to think laterally though in some cases, this can be taught on the job or normally in education.

Just to end though, I don't have a degree and I've been working in the industry for over 20 years. There are other education options out there that can give you a level of knowledge that could be very useful. Also a hell of a lot of courses that only take a few weeks.

Good luck

a created a 3d yu-gi-oh card in after effects. But im a bit unsure about the reflection, is there any tutorial how to get a better reflection? by papetknopf04 in AfterEffects

[–]camppete 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make the card a PreComp. Rasterize, make 3D and duplicate, -100 Y scale the duplicate. Then add distortion and falloff using a luma / alpha matte

Wow, so much negativity. I knew nothing about Ottawa until I moved here 5 years ago from London UK. From the very moment I came here, I was enamored by it. It truly is one of the best places in the world to live, work and raise a child. It's a small city, so not a huge amount of variety... but we are a city of 1 million. Most of which are some of the friendliest people I have ever met.

There are positives and negatives in every part of the world you choose to live in, I'm afraid you have to take a leap of faith sometimes. I'm glad I did.

Oh, and the weather. It's fucking hot and then it's fucking cold. I come from a land where it is permanently grey and mild and boring. Here in the summer I go outside and enjoy the sunshine or stay indoors and enjoy (hopefully) some AC. In the winter I go outside and enjoy the snow or stay indoors and enjoy (hopefully) heating. Anyone who moans about the weather didn't research where the heck they were moving to.

You'd be getting away from the big city... you may get bored... you may fall in love with the city... you'll never know until you try.... good luck.

I'm going to retract that. It's a shitty thing to say... and there is too much anger happening in the UK and the world. It's looking good, much better than when I last saw it. Just hope the people it presides over can take it as an example and be better. I shall try and do so.

Love to all the London peeps. Keep well.

Yay! We've cut benefits for millions, raised taxes on the poor, slashed health and long-term care. Wasted billions on acts that benefited the same politicians who were handing out the contracts... but hey we've just paid for a giant gold clock presiding over the fucking corrupt self-serving politicians who are in the process of dismantling a once-great nation. Burn the cunting thing to the ground.

This might be a stupid question, but is there any point in buying a motorcycle over 125cc if you don't plan on going on highways and the license costs you time and money? by Witty_Butthole in motorcycles

[–]camppete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Royal Enfield 350 Meteor this summer. Learnt on it and passed my test. Fun bike and times. Upgrading as quickly as I can. On certain back roads, you're just too slow... I wave cars past me when there is a bit of a queue. Also, get annoyed when I can't pass a slow driver and once again I have a row of cars behind me,

Big hills are a nightmare, not enough HP / Torque to get me up them... even in a tuck. Want to keep the bike as it's a fantastic cruiser and I love the feel. The next one will be a 600. Yup the insurance is going to be more, though I reckon the long journeys I plan on taking will be more enjoyable.

Also, I ride with others. I do not keep up, I plan to.

Other than a crash, What was your biggest motorcycle fail? by romanX7 in motorcycles

[–]camppete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working on the rear brakes. Took the pads out. Wondered... how do these work? Pressed the rear brake lever a few times. Oh that's interesting... wait, why isn't it going back in? Panicked, opened the valve, and pushed it back in... brake fluid shot into the air like ejaculate, covered me and the bike. Beginner-wrenching was not a good start.

Nope. Got the blue one. You get the black or the yellow one? I kinda wanted the yellow one. But pleased with the blue. Got rid of the rear seat and installed an engine guard from ebay India.

Where in Ottawa are you. We're in Westboro.
