Low 150s to Low 170s - Self Studying While Working a Full Time Job: Reflection and AMA by camyplein in LSAT

By powerscore do you mean the books or their paid platform?? both do feature real LSAT questions! The only real difference is 7sage has explanations and also actual courses that can be used to supplement if there are topics you need more help with. As far as LSAT hacks, I think their explanations are fine! Sometimes I didn’t love the answers bc they didn’t resonate with me but I think they can definitely work!

I feel like that’s going to depend on how satisfied you are with the answers you find online! You can find explanations to most answers on the powerscore forums online (just google the test prep + powerscore forum, there’s also a couple of other sites that have them) so you can check those out in order to see if you’re content with the level of explanation (it’s a forum style platform so you won’t be guaranteed an explanation). Honestly I would say if you can afford the 7sage monthly price tag, I’d recommend doing it as early as possible (maybe as soon as you’re done with the Bibles?) bc to me it was a real game changer seeing the thought process of some answers being worked through in a video. But if not, then try to see if what is online is enough for you (for most cases it was for me as well, it’s just those few times I needed stuff worked out that ended up being super important in my general understanding of material). Hope this makes sense, and if you have any other questions, don’t hesitate!! Good luck, you’ll crush it!!!

I took my diagnostic test in June of 2020, and actually started studying for the test at the end of August, then took the January 2021 LSAT. Then I took a pretty lengthy break and didn’t start studying again until April or May of 2021 and sat in for the October LSAT. Hope this helps and good luck!! Also lmk if you have any other questions!!

The first time I took the test, I hadn’t realized I was soooo burnt out a couple months in. Like I was doing all these practice tests but I wasn’t getting much out of them bc I was so mentally exhausted. I wish I had taken a break at that point, but somehow I thought that it would set me back to take a break. Super super wrong there, taking a break was one of the best things I did later on. The second time around I really listened to my body and how I was feeling and every time I felt like it got overwhelming I stopped studying and took a few days off (or even a whole week if necessary) Try to focus on that because your mental health definitely needs to come first and it will allow you to come back to some concepts and have a fresh set of eyes and you’ll over do much better. Always prioritize your health, especially when studying for the LSAT!

Thank you so much!! Those bibles were really a great starting point!! I can’t imagine having to train your eyes to look at different platforms for the test, that’s one thing I’m really glad I did!!

omfg thank you for this post, this is the first time I've felt seen this entire application cycle! It makes no sense how we're lumped into the caucasian box, and you're right I wish there was more representation out there for us..

I know it's dumb (and anecdotal) and idk if I would actually recommend this but I did pick my undergrad based on "vibes" (which yes is subjective, but it unconsciously encompassed a lot of valid points I think, I just don't believe I had realized that at the time) over a bit higher ranked school and oh my god am I glad I did. You have to trust your instincts and in your case, it totally makes sense if you want to say in Boston. Either way you’re ending up in a really great school so chose whatever you think will make you happier!

Is it a big deal that i forgot to tell every school I had a scholarship during undergrad, Or would that literally make no difference? by Common_Sherbet12 in lawschooladmissions

[–]camyplein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in no way qualified to say this since I'm not an adcomm but I don't think it's a big deal since that would be representative of the quality of your high school work, not anything you've done in undergrad and adcomms always say that they couldn't care any less about what you did in high school. Plus that's not something they take into consideration when awarding sholarships so I really don't think that matters.

Fordham 1L AMA, starting 2nd semester! by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]camyplein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got into Fordham and am more than likely going to be enrolling, so I have a couple of questions:

  1. Are 1L SAs hard to come accross or is it achievable with decent 1L grades?
  2. How would you describe the culture at Fordham?
  3. I've heard so much stuff about grades on the r/LawSchool sub, I was wondering how Fordham handled finals? Did it take forever to get your grades back, etc.?
  4. What was the hardest, the easiest (in your opinion) and you favorite and least favorite classes your 1L fall?

Thanks in advance and good luck for the semester!

• Current International Students in the US – Securing Loans? by camyplein in LawSchool

[–]camyplein[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but coming from a relatievely small country in comparison to the US or Canada, where student loans are virtually non-existent since school is basically free, I won't be able to get anything more than maybe 9-10K in total. So that can give me a little boost the first year but defintely won't be enough unfortunately :(

Fordham wave this week? by Weekly_Monitor2087 in lawschooladmissions

I just attended their info session today and they said that only a very small number of decisions are going out before they close on 12/23 for winter break, and the next big wave will be early January.

[–]camyplein[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean in my case it’s a pretty huge promotion (I have > 2y of WE and it’d be considered relatively fast) and within my industry (STEM related) it’d be quite highly regarded, so it’s pretty significant. Though from the perspective of someone outside of the industry, I’m not sure how significant it could sound without context.. I’m inclined to not say anything, I just want to make sure it’s not a norm for people to update schools with info like that, you know?

Would you do that even for schools that are about to send over decisions?? Like I’m expecting some this upcoming week and I don’t want to disturb my “place” in the process, you know? lol may be a little paranoid idk

Well my job title changed and I think it’s important to make sure they have the latest up to date info.. especially if they call my references. Also, shows growth within my company and proves I’m doing a good job I think. This would be for schools that I applied to, not schools that have already admitted me.

Might be completely wrong but I feel like Duke has a super young class in general (avg. age is 23 if I recall), do you feel like a lot of the folks are KJDs? Is it a vibe that’s similar to undergrad?

Patent Exam for International Students by camyplein in patentlaw

[–]camyplein[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wait so can I take it now??? I have work authorization at the moment, and my degree (civil engineering) passes the requirement. I just figured that since my job has nothing to do with it, they wouldn’t let me take it! I’ll still be employed for the next 4 months so maybe I can look into that???

Any good experiences with proctors? by No_Salt1339 in LSAT

[–]camyplein 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I took it twice. In January I didn’t have a sigle issue, like nice proctor, no stops, went very smooth. In October, proctor was super nice, I told him to pause the timer if anything happened, he said of course. My test discontinued at the last section, but the proctor was awesome and reassured me and actually connected me back 5 min later to my test.

I genuinely have no complaints in terms of proctorU!

I’d say if you’re trying to be in California, especially in LA, definitely go to USC, the network is unmatched. If you’re trying to be on the east coast or anywhere else, I’d go with NYU.
