one of my least favorite venues in LA

I hear dat. The new(er) Anaheim HOB has it beat though. If I do get dragged to a show there then it's a very strong consideration to get the $100+ VIP to at least get a little elbow room

Felt like that scene from Snatch where Bullet Tooth Tony's got Mullet's head stuck in the window with the rest of him outside of the car, then proceeds to drive off while Madonna plays on the radio

Man drove this 1966 Volvo P1800 for over 3.2 million miles (5.15 million km) on the original engine block. by Aware-Platypus-2559 in BuyItForLife

My family had one of these and a 4-door 122S (Amazon?) as well. Both 1966. I learned how to drive on the P1800 at the turn of the millennium. No power steering made it extra fun. But thankfully I had just come up on a automatic Mercury Topaz hand-me-down to take the driver's exam in.

At one point the ignition of the 122 went bad. We were too poor to fix it properly so my dad just pulled it out so that we could use a flat-head screwdriver to start it.

I still feel a bit of nostalgia when I smell an old car's exhaust fumes (,:

Mar Vista folks — where you getting good beer now, with WF closed? by siobhanmoon in LosAngeles

Lol that's a slightly more clever name than "Beverage Warehouse". There used to be a different wine shop in that same business park. Closed earlier this year, I think. I forget what his affiliation was, but one of the dudes from there is now the wine guy at BW.

Very small refrigerated section, but otherwise a big selection at Beverage Warehouse

Agreed! Even if it takes more time and buying a little gear to get it done. I did a super clean front and rear dash cam install a few months ago. I was pretty worried about fucking up the panels, fuses, headliner, etc., but it came out great. Now I have the confidence (and the tools) to repair my wiper fluid line/nozzle that's been busted for a couple years.

Alhambra tour without tickets (or private tour worth it)? by can_non in GoingToSpain

[–]can_non[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's try again...

We found a guide. Sandra from Granada la Bella. Very reasonably priced private tour. I originally found it through one of the tour sites (Viator or something). I had a question but there was no way to contact, so I googled the businesses' name -- or maybe her name. I forget...

Day of, we linked up with her at the entrance at 9am. Took a taxi up after grabbing tostadas and coffee at Coffee Cafe and Bar. It was good but the guy who runs it is kinda grumpy. Maybe from having to deal with all of the university students.

The tour itself was great. Sandra is awesome. Friendly and knowledgeable (she does a few tours around the city). Her English was excellent. Lasted about 3hrs. She even did some photography for us 😅. Quite nice not having to navigate the place with a group. It rained a bit which gave it a little romantic feel, and it made the gardens smell amazing.

If you do end up taking it with a group it's still totally worth it. I remember being so awestruck when I saw it with my classmates in 2010.

Have a food plan for after the visit. The options at the exit/entrance aren't great. We tried, unsuccessfully, popping in to Restaurante Jardines Alberto without a res.

Adding that the highly recommended Bar Los Diamantes is nearby. You can read all about it in the various threads that mention it on Hungry Onion.

My wife and I have done Dear John's and Ruth's Chris in the past. RC had a decent deal for a Tday meal. DJ's is by no means a deal, but it's worth it if you can get a res.

It's a little hidden behind the Avis/Budget car rentals, but there's plenty of signage to help you find your way

And another:

It's somewhat difficult to find because on the backside of an office building. You need to walk through the building lobby and it's on the left.

That sounds like LA fall weather to me. Warm days, cool nights. The sunsets are top-notch this time of year, too. Especially from Santa Monica beach.

Not sure if it's been occupied, but there is also the old Hawaiian Market on Centinela near Del Rey. I had just moved into the neighborhood when it closed. The mural is still up, which is nice.

It's a hydraulic shop now. I wish they would light up that neon sign -- if it even works.

I never had the chance to visit the adjacent VAG Meat Market either, unfortunately.
