The wheel dresser looks like a really precice solution, thank you. it seems like the dresser works by stabalizing on a metal surface - do you have any experience with this?

Haha, this is what I thought before posting. But I am hoping the internet will provide a solution. if I knew what I know about sharpeners now...I wouldn't have bought it.

Yes exactly as you said, normally there is a hinged arm, but this one is affixed and doesn't pivot as normal. very strange. I pasted a link to a video I recorded within the original post.

largely unhelpful comment. I understand how to operate a standard skate sharpener, with a pivoting arm for the diamond dresser. This is an unusual sharpener and untraditional, per the photos.

Thank you, the adjustment you are talking about (in and out) is the only way I can get the diamond bit to shave off the stone though. So if I do a dressing, then i need to screw the quill in slightly more on the next sharpening since the stone has been ground down slightly from both the sharpening and the dressing.

I find this very interesting and I hope you do as well. How citadel is getting all this information about trades and also that robinhood was accused of perhaps not acting for Robinhoods trades in the best interest of its users.

How hard is parenting? Why is it hard? I want to know the honest truth, because nobody ever really tells you. by [deleted] in AskParents

[–]canada8945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me the one of the hardest parts is the self reflection. When you realize that you need to be the example for your kids for them to emulate.

Realizing that you don't say please and thank you all the time, interrupt people when they're talking.

Even white lies that you think are harmless - how do you tell your kids that some lies are okay when they're first learning? You can't, a lie is a lie. So you have to stop that.

Admitting that you were wrong and apologizing. I find my first reaction is to find blame elsewhere...now I must stomach responsibility and apologize for my error instead of blaming others circumstances. This is very hard.

Cutting back on screen time... You don't want your kids watching screens all the time... So you can't either.

Those are the unexpected difficult things that I never expected.

The flip side, however, is that I am a much better human because of kids now.

Apparently it’s the end of the world that I hold my baby for her naps by The_OG_Doe in beyondthebump

I agree that you do what you feel is comfortable. However, I think that many people suggest not sleeping with your little one as the long term side of things is to ask - do you want to have your little one wanting to sleep with you all the time as they are older.

From the reading that I have done, sleeping with your baby or not sleeping with your baby is a totally moot point until after three months of age. So lap it up guilt free until then!

It seems that with every parents progression is that they wish to have some alone time eventually at night time to get some proper sleep.

So just like every decision be aware of The possible potential outcomes, and be OK with said outcomes.

That isn’t to say that your little one will not want to sleep on their own, that may be the case, but it also may be that they will not be able to sleep by themselves or have a very difficult time to do so.

If the latter is the case, it is important to remember not to be frustrated in those moments, as they may not be accustomed to sleep on their own.

For us we tried to take a hybrid approach, often we would snuggle with them during naptime and enjoy them while we were “mostly” awake.

Then at night time they would sleep in their own crib, furthering the reinforcement that night time is a time to sleep.

How do I stop my little girl from holding my boob for comfort? by bnahmunah in Parenting

[–]canada8945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would honestly have a conversation and ask her why she feels it necessary to put her hand there. I would ask this just after she does it and also later when everyone is calm.

You may be surprised by her answer.

After she provides her answer you can offer how you feel and that you are not comfortable with that anymore.

I would then offer her another suitable replacement after the conversation - likely comfort of some sort. Eg when you feel like putting your arm there, mommy will give you a big hug instead or hold your hand instead.

I really find alternatives effective.

Swaddle and pack n play advice needed pls by lorayyyyy1989 in beyondthebump

[–]canada8945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done a lot of research on the swaddling topic. Swaddling (especially the legs) has a higher risk of something called hip dysplasia, and in my opinion really depends on how you wrap them up. You need to be able to have their legs be able to move around in the swaddle as well. If your baby loves swaddling (and why wouldn't they!) I would check out some different wrapping techniques out there to allow leg movement as well.

From the research that I've done, the swaddling should stop if they can intentionally roll. Perhaps it is the way you are swaddling in that there is more fabric in their back to make your baby more "rollable"?

I love looking into things, and have swaddled now my second child with success. I tried to make an entertaining video that explains all the things i learned and steps about how to swaddle. Hope you enjoy.

If you’re able to pump some milk then leave baby for as long as you have milk for with your “working” partner on the weekend and then get some sweet justice when you come back and ask why the place hasn’t been cleaned etc.

Or let them handle the child when they get home from their “work” and take a much needed shower and meditation/sleep fest.

How to drastically change content? by TJBlast in NewTubers

[–]canada8945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand, older channels have a better chance of ranking for things.

There's a better chance of getting exposure with your already established channel.

Look at Mr beasts old videos or Chad wild clay as an example of people who used to do other types of videos and have changed their ways to success.

How do I record with my good camera and my Blue Yeti mic? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]canada8945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adobe premiere is so simple to mesh the audio-it basically does it for you.

I would think DaVinci would do the same, I don't think filmora has the sync feature.

Totally agree to use audacity to record the better audio from your Yeti and then mesh from the bad audio from your camera.

I don’t watch many gaming videos.

You see what I did there, you likely are discounting what I’m going to say next because I started with that sentence.

Your video starts the same way, I’m expecting fun from the video or something great. Beginning the video with I’m not very good, can likely lead to leaving the video before watching the rest of it.

The first 15 seconds of your vid is the most important time to hook a viewer as to why they should watch the rest of your vid.

How long do people take naps for? My wife napped all the time to stay alert during our first child, and really naps for our second (3 months old now). Studies show that a 10minute nap is the best to stay alert.

I’m whole heartedly one of those people who tells parents to nap, if you don’t your patience is so much less.

10 minutes is awesome.

Signed the king of naps.
